The first computer used the punched card system borrowed from those organs .......
@arburo14 жыл бұрын
@@leso204 It goes further back than that because these organs borrowed the punched cards from the Jacquard looms.

This organ use to be where I worked in Norfolk at the Bygone Village (sadly gone now), the 2 tunes it's playing are the same ones we played! It use to sit next to a set of Savages Gallopers in the "Regent" and the 2 worked together, lovely to hear these tunes again after 25 years!! Memories!

I kinda was. My great uncle loved these steam fairs. Sadly he passed away last year. To know he would have heard this in person. And then I remember how he passed away and I will never see him again.

I love the calliope. I think it’s a cool invention. The music is on a punch card, a roll of paper with perforations. The positions of these perforations determines what instrument plays what note when which results in mechanically-generated music

How does the organ stay in tune when it's driven around all the time?
@buringplumbranches4 жыл бұрын
as lon as none of the pipes or horns get bent or otherwise compromised it should never have to be tuned
@penfold78004 жыл бұрын
Looks like it's in an insulated truck, so its kept away from harsh temperature changes and it's probably secured with suspension rods and rubber feet.
@jonathon-leebrookes99654 жыл бұрын
burningplumbranches like any other organ I which is usually tuned anywhere from once a month to every six months...I imagine it will he retuned when it is set up at each show as transit and temperature will cause it to detune pretty quickly.
@arburo14 жыл бұрын
It doesn't. Travelling an organ will cause the pipe stoppers to move slightly, so retuning is required if you want the organ to sound good. With good restoration and tight stoppers, an organ may only need tuning once a year.
