I did not say Franco composed it, the name between brackets is the composer and Bavon did record it with Negro Succes, indeed. It's on the very album you see in the clip (African 360.023, 1970). It's Léon Bholen BOMBOLO, typography as on the sleeve, by the way. The three pics under him carry the names Alphonso, Samy and Gaspy. You wouldn't happen to know more about those, would you?
@samj7572 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aboubacar for uploading this song many years ago (and many others!). I love this song, but it is one of those that really confuses me to be honest. This version is clearly sang by Franco. But when people talk about Bavon and this song, they usually snidely try to bring Franco's hand into Bavon's death - whether through the sorcery referenced in the song or in other versions of the story, by indirectly causing the accident in which Bavon died (Bavon was supposedly love sick from Franco taking Bavon's girl). As a young lover of this music (and who is also invested in understanding the songs and their stories), I'm interested to hear your understanding or version of history (since it is clear many people have and believe their own versions). Personally, I struggle to see how Franco would sing such a masterpiece, which has ended up immortalizing his frérot, if Franco himself was the said villain in the song/story...

The fact you are saying "These were THE two giants of Congolese music without doubt" tells me you don't have a clue what you are talking about. THE two giants were Joseph Kabasselé aka Le Grand Kalé and Franco. Rochereau played a minor role in Kalé's orchestra African Jazz, and not even in the 1950's, in the earliest incarnations, but after that. In 1980, two people were appointed Grand Maitre de la Musique Zairoise Moderne by the musicians union of Zaire. Rochereau was NOT one of them.
