Maserati Quattroporte I - by Sir Peter Usinov

Translation: I was always fascinated with four Italian brothers that worked together. They had no argument among each other. They were Maserati. The Maserati brothers. When this sport car came to market I immediately wanted to have one. I had five of them in my life. I still have two of them. One is a modern one, the other one is from 1968. It's a quattroporte, one of the last of the first series. And I think it is one of the best cars that I ever got to know. It really is fantastic. Then I see all these things: petrol, amps. This is all done very artistically. This here is maybe a bit too much when you happen not to be a pianist. It's always so impressive when the car stands still and you see: 300 km per hour. I love that. I drove very fast with that car and it is very safe on the street. Altogether I feel wonderful in this car. I'm forever thankful for the Maserati brothers. And my first car Bertocci himself brought to me to Paris. He was the chief engineer and chief tester. And I remember him saying: You don't have to worry with this car. You can start in the fourth gear. He said: Tanti cavalli which means so much horses. (laughs). The italians are very talented also for design. This is a huge italian tradition. Very different from other people, very individual, very personal always. The personality is the interesting thing about it. People that do this they follow their own instinct, these geniuses that are really creative. The symbol of Maserati is this Neptun trident. This originates from a fountain 0pin Bologna. Bologna is a very interesting town. And not very far away is Modena which is a bit smaller but developed in musical terms. Together with Ferrari of course also not very far away in Maranello. She is very musical with 12 cylinders (imitates the engine). Then came the Maserati brothers that started off in Bologna but then moved to Modena. These usually just have 8 cylinders (imitates the engine), a very different sound. And then when you speak about music then there is something that has at least 24 cylinders and it is Pavaroootti ( imitates opera singer Pavarotti). He also is from Modena. And when Ferrari is there and Maserati is there he can sing very well: nessun dorma (sings famous opera aria) continues singing in opera singing style: "this makes so much noise." That's typical italian. That is Maserati. That is a car you never ever want to get rid of. I bought it new. I still have it and it will be here when I will be gone. (laughs)

In 1967 Mr. Ustinov gave me and my boyfriend a lift in this car! From Gstaad(Switzerland) to nearby Turbach. At that time I was 15 and had no idea who he was, I found out years later when I regocnized him in a movie.
