Well... 2020 has been pretty strange so far with the Coronavirus! From shortages on food, fuel, and toilet paper... and oddly enough, the folks from the old TV show MASH know what we're going through!
Thank you for watching this special COVID-19 of M.A.S.H!

M*a*s*h is such a great show, im way too young to have found this show when it was airing, but while my dad was out about a year ago I was snooping his movies and found season 1 to 11 and decided to watch the pilot out of boredom. I loved it. Then about 2 weeks ago I found the munsters. I misread it as monsters and thought it'd be a serious horror show. When I found out it was a comedy, at first I was disappointed but godamn when I started watching it, it was so damn good.

When MASH was shown in the UK, the BBC decided to remove the laughter track. It was a great programme that was both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. The pathos of the programme is lost when there is fake laughter after every 'comedy' line.
@harryballsak1123
@harryballsak1123 4 жыл бұрын
Series creators Larry Gelbart and Gene Reynolds wanted M*A*S*H broadcast without a laugh track. Though CBS initially rejected the idea, a compromise was reached that allowed for omitting the laughter during operating room scenes if desired Seasons 1-5 utilized a more invasive laugh track; a more subdued audience was employed for Seasons 6-11 when the series shifted from sitcom to comedy-drama with the departure of Gelbart and Reynolds. Several episodes ("O.R.",d "The Bus", "Quo Vadis, Captain Chandler?", "The Interview", "Point of View", and "Dreams" among them) omitted the laugh track altogether; as did almost all of Season 11, including the 135-minute series finale, "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen".

I don’t disagree. Everyone can tell when something is genuinely funny without hearing the canned laughter. The problem with taking the laugh track out of M*A*S*H is the timing of the editing is clunky. The space left for laugh tracks is empty and some scenes play like it’s a rough cut.

Most people remember Hot Lips for her later portrayal in the show, where she was a stern but loyal officer, in many ways like Hawkeye and BJ but raised to pursue a stiff upper lip approach to the insanity around her. It's interesting to see these earlier episodes where she was just as much an elitist, "rank has its privileges" type as Burns, only she was actually useful in a crisis and her selfishness had limits.

The writers worked day and night giving the character of Charles the best dialogue on the whole series ( as far as the inferior later phase of the series dialogue which was later usually boring unlike the fun dialogue of seasons 1 to 5). Credit the writers. Any actor could not help but score under those conditions. In real life Stiers had horrible traumatic problems from childhood on.

I read somewhere that in the real MASH there were 8 doctors to a tent. I watch this show and wonder how they ever made it work for real!

I am literally begging millennials and gen z to rediscover MASH. It's old, so it's got some cringey takes, but god it's so good.

During the 1940s and before, when farm people in the States had to use an outhouse, they wiped themselves with pages from catalogs...they weren't glossy or in color back then. Some of the people even used corn cobs. Yikes!!

One of my favorite parts of the office scene is when Henry starts reading the shortage list again. If you look behind him to Trapper you can see Wayne Roger breaking up.

Not 2020 related, but I remember that they got depressed when they realized why they were getting supplies delivered... it meant the war had shifted back in their direction and they were going to be full of wounded again.
