The Surprisingly Strict Rule In-N-Out Male Employees Must Follow

Every fast food chain has a dress code that employees have to abide by, but In-N-Out's seems to be particularly strict. Walk into any location, and you'll see employees wearing almost exactly the same thing as they whip up your Double-Double. There are actually nine distinct pieces of the uniform outlined in the employee handbook: name tag, black shoes, belt, red apron and pin, hat, white shirt, pants, and socks.
Depending on an employee's gender, there are also a few other requirements for what they must wear while on the clock. Here's the surprisingly strict rule In-N-Out's male employees must follow.

@Stewie Griffin In-n-out isn't like McDonald's. My sister was a trainer , and one year I was in high school, they foot the bill for a trip to universal studios ,. I started working there around a few years later and they took us rented out set up,. Where they put up rides , raffles ECT . They even give out Christmas gifts. I still have a blanket from one year. My sister has a watch I think as far as the raises. Back in the days you got a quarter raise for every step up u took. So lowest is the table cleaner or whatever, then calling out the orders and cashiers . Fries was 3rd step. Then board then cook.

For 8 bucks at a fast food joint the fact you had any expectations is hilarious and the fact you complained is even funnier. Simply cut your losses and move on. Your complaining about 8 bucks worth of food being completely wrong is what is wrong with this country. It’s just 8 bucks and if you don’t have the means to spend it then you learned a lesson in not spending what you can’t afford. If it’s on principle then your lack of focus and importance in life is really lacking. People who complain about poor service at fast food at restaurants are not normally reliable because they usually complain about everything if they are willing to complain about 8 bucks and waiting too long to the point of being given 20 bucks! Stop eating fast food period and invest 8 bucks in to your life next time.

Many, if not most, restaurants have dress and grooming rules. My first job, at a Taco Bell, had them. Wearing the standard white uniform I feel is a good thing, especially if the restaurants have lockers for employees and areas for employees to change their clothes. If In-N-Out launders their work clothes, that's 1,000 times better than leaving the restaurant after the end of their shifts smelling like a hamburger and fries. It's a young person's job. Not in a million years can I picture myself working fast food again.

They supplied the hat, shirt, pants, name tag (we used to put them on top of the dash in our cars to let any police know where we worked if stopped. They got 1/2 price food).and apron. All we had to get was the giant safety pin to hold up the white apron. I think you take more pride in your work if you wear a uniform. I was gonna have an issue with this until you started listing all of the benefits that the employees have. At least the company is taking care of their employees, and paying them prett well, as they should. Most fast food chains don’t even do half of the stuff that In-N-Out is doing for their employees. Hell, a lot of them don’t even give you a free meal. They might give you a discount as an employee, but never an entirely free meal. You would think that a free meal is nothing to them, but I guess it is lol. The fact that they have a 401K and stuff for them is great.
@pancakeviking5321
@pancakeviking5321 2 жыл бұрын
It is because IN-N-OUT is a privately owned operation and opens very few locations, funds can be relocated to other locations. In chains, that is not the case, the chain is independently owned by the chain owner, who generally has to keep food costs under 30% of the income of the store, and labor costs under 30% of the store so that they can pay rent to the chain and their monthly franchise fee. Around 80% of funds are used in the chain for it to function and stay open, leaving 10%-15% to go towards a repair fund. The owner of the chain normally is only able to walk away with 5% of the chain's income, which is incredibly low for almost any business and normally equates to around $100,000 to $150,000 a year.

For the pay and health insurance and other perks it is worth following strict dress codes. Prospective employees can always go down the road to the next burger hub and get far less and keep their individual trappings. The cleanliness of the staff and customer service is a big selling point. Also please notice half their asses are not hanging out, the pants are pulled up. Kidos to public health standards.
@FeeshCTRL
@FeeshCTRL 2 жыл бұрын
You sound just like corporate, like MY manager who also thinks that our GAS STATION has "Great benefits and health insurance and all kinds of other perks so you should be happy or leave!" Honestly any normal employee that works at these types of places never say a word about the "benefits" because at the end of the day most people don't even get them. I for one cannot afford the "benefits" that are offered to me, *even at the managerial level* , because I can't afford the 400+ dollars that those said "benefits" take out to cover for them on top of my rent and other utility bills, they're not fully covered perks. You have that condescending Manager tone to your words, "Prospective employees can always go down the road to the next burger hub and get [ far less ] and keep their individual [trappings]", I'll be 100% honest with you, nobody likes it when you regard them as second class citizens just because they have some issues with a strict dress code. It isn't that serious. It's fast food, not a fine dining restaurant. That's the issue with managers these days and why everybody is calling it quits in this industry, they're overzealous over the smallest of things and act like they're better than you because they're the head cheap chili fry maker. Overworked and underpaid, but the managers will always try to make it seem like there is no place better for you than there because of the "Great perks and benefits". Maybe if everybody werent hounded for what they weren't doing, and appreciated for the good that they ARE doing, most of these places wouldn't be going through a staffing shortage currently

Rigid dress code? My first job was at a McDonalds in 1976, I had longer hair then. The first thing I was told I had to get a hair cut, over the ears and off the collar. No alterations to the uniform and old style cash registers where you had to add the tab by hand then punch it into the register…no touch screen computer screen. The manager gave us a class on the proper folding of the to go bag, not just to hand the bag out. We also had to hand count back the change to the customer. The In/Out policy is just plan old school customer service base, nothing new…but very welcome

Its a private company so they can set their standards however they want and if you don't like it or don't agree, then you can simply find another burger joint or establishment to work for. This is America and if you own your own business, you should be able to set your own standards (of course within legal parameters). These standards don't seem to violate any laws and as a matter of fact, these are the same exact standards in which they have become successful. If anyone speaks to any employee at In-N-Out to ask them how they are treated....You will see why it's a great company to work for. Ever since the minimum wage hike in CA, big chains like McDonalds and other major corporate chains have increased their food items "drastically" while In-N-Out has only raised their prices by like around 18 cents to 25 cents. They are able to do that for what reasons? The same reasons mentioned above....high standards in service, high quality ingredients, EXTREMELY well trained staff, great pay, and all in all....THE CULTURE that In-N-Out has created for all of it's members and customers.

I would never ever work for Disney. In-N-Out can pay more to their employees and give benefits/bonuses/rewards while other fast-food chains do not for two reasons: 1) all In-N-Out locations are owned by the company verses most of the other fast-food chains are mostly (if not all) franchises. A franchisee pays rent and franchise fees to the fast-food companies which is a huge chunk of their gross sales. 2) Franchise-based fast-food chains have shareholders which are paid dividends. I don’t miss working at a place with a uniform and arbitrary rules about facial hair, etc… Working from home for a cubicle farm company has its own problems but I get treated a lot more like an adult than when I worked at a restaurant, granted I was pretty immature back then. Now I get to wear my PJs to work and don’t ever have to shave if I don’t want to! I can wear whatever hat I want, or no hat! Also, customers don’t treat me like hot garbage for making a small mistake

I appreciate a restaurant that do everything to ensure facial hair don't fall on my food. I saw people who work at Costco Food Court wear something over their beard. Just to be sure that nothing falls on your food.😄

All of them have clean uniforms that are properly placed plus they are very clean themselves, giving very good customer service and quick delivery. Nobody is dress differently just because he/she is the supervisor or for whatever reason. The restaurant is very busy but staff always follow up the cleanliness. This is the only burger joint that follows strictly this rule and the only restaurant that is above the rest.

Accordance with food safety rules hair nets or a head cover must be worn while working in a kitchen, a net must also be worn if you have facial hair..beard or mustache. This is from the board of health. When I worked at General Foods I had to wear a hair net while on the food processing floor.

I worked at in n out when I was in high school and my store had a “rule”. If a guy came In unshaven the 1st time, he would have to shave w a razor and cream before the shift. If it happened a 2nd time, he would have to “dry shave”. Yikes.

I think the clean shaven policy is pretty stupid. I can understand not wanting the men to have big beards, but what's wrong with a very short, neatly kept beard or stubble?

i hate jobs that require you to be “clean shaven” having a goatee or beard has no effect on your ability to flip a burger or take an order. clean shaven can be the area you shave as long as you don’t come in looking like santa clause

Then, don’t work for the restaurant business! People don’t want to see nasty long beards and goatees in a place there eating whether it’s fast food or nice casual restaurant, it’s gross. Think about the shoe being on the other foot! The restaurant business is about cleanliness, cleanliness brings in customers!
