You should try this playback with neck speakers, Matthew... (with sounds above you for best effect!) Be sure you adjust the perspective control to a lower volume so it sounds natural - even speakers in a correct position (you can find this by experimenting, but a rule of thumb 45 degrees to the right left of you at head height seems to work well. The pinna is vital for the perspective, the pinna adds extra "sounds" or tones that tell our brain where it is, we don't notice this added "sound" (unless you really play with the mic and repeatedly check between two positions in real time), remember every pinna will have a slightly different perspective, so some people will get a great binaural experience with your mic, and others not so, a few different binaural mics could be advantageous, but it's something I've yet to try as I don't have any other binaural mics to test here just now. . We can "focus" on a particular sound even in an environment full of different sounds, that's what's so special with binaural audio too! My binaural mics have different ears to the Neumann, so it would be interesting to know how you perceive binaural audio with my mics, there's a live stream link on my channel, of the back yard, so during the day there should be quite a bit of activity above you (edit, we're in the UK so GMT). The live stream will be fixed by the evening of the 14th Dec, as the head is resting on a chair just now as a mount I used has broken on the tripod, but it is a 24/7 stream mostly, unless the Raspberry Pi has crashed. If you'd like to test one of my mics, please let me know, and I'll send over one for you to try out if you like, it would be an interesting test between the mics.
