As someone who really loves your videos, I think they would count as Remix's, ex. Hey all, sans here! Wouldn't be a rip since it's not titled with [Video game name] [Soundtrack name] and it wouldn't be a mashup since it doesn't use direct samples of both songs and is just megalovania changed to sound like another song.

I wasn't even familiar with the term "rip" in this context. Paraphrasing it for myself here, it sounds like the main differences are: 1. "It is what I say it is" (the author has considerable interprative leverage on that point) 2. Mashups directly sample two existing songs, while rips will tweak an existing song by adding synthesized or actual instrumentation (sometimes original, sometimes made to sound like another tune, but never directly sampled) 3. Rips be sneaky, and part of the culture of making them is passing itself off as the original tune it's tweaking Guess y'all can let me know if I deserve a dunce hat if I got it wrong.

Yeah, the two major differences by my understanding are: 1. Does it directly sample one song or more than one song? 2. Is it presented as a combination of two+ songs into a new, legally distinct song or as a sample of a single song with hidden original alterations by the artist? There's a similar set of differences between rips and remixes, where rips are always modified direct samples while remixes may be entirely independent productions that *replicate* the song they're derived from, and where remixes are pretty much always overtly delineated in terms of what they've changed (usually in terms of genre shift, instrumental changes, speed/key changes, &c.) while rips, as before, don't give up the game in the title or description. Honestly I see a lot more confusion between mashups and remixes, where the former seem to get treated as a subset of the latter when they're really quite distinct, even if mashups by their nature can "feel" a lot like remixes at first blush. That's not to mention weird questions like whether you should classify covers are remixes or as their own thing -- if you don't, aren't you essentially just drawing an arbitrary line that labels some musicians (largely solo, electronic ones) as "not real artists"? After all, a lot of "traditional" covers are very much in the vein of what we call remixes today where it's the original song performed in the style of the artist doing the performance without any serious changes to the structure of the work.
