Very happy that Brazil bought the E/F versions, instead of F18E or Dassault Rafale. The new Gripen is a top tier 4++ airplane, cheap, comes with tech transfer and Saab even adopted parts developed by Brazilian companies (radar, screen, etc). Single engine, easy maintenance, can build parts locally, translates to availability! Also, possibly the best active stealth for 4++ planes. Good luck maintaining the F-35 whales and training pilots paying a trillion dollars in flight hours.

I completely agree, especially the piece of shit that is “Fat Amy” (F-35). it’s a useless plane with a half decent AESA radar that can be put in any gen-4 plane to similar effect, such as the F-15EX. why even have that useless plane in any air force? the gripen is an amazing fighter, on par with many lightweight gen4+ planes such as the F-16C bl.70/72 and JF-17.

NoMo This was not dogfighting. The title is very misleading. I knew before they even took off because they were carrying drop tanks which would NEVER be done. Even for demos because of the drag and weight. I'm sure the guy meant well but this is pretty lame. I do like the Gripen however.

Narendra Modi Ever hear of the F-16 in air combat mode? Su-35 makes up of its large size and weight by using thrust vectoring. The Gripen and F16 do it with aerodynamic design. Both work, but there is a lot of added weight, size, and cost associated with the Su-35's approach, and with it, a very large radar cross section. While neither the Gripen or F-16 are stealth aircraft, their smaller size does reduce the amount of signal reflected back. The Gripen is supposed to be oretty good fir that, guven that it is a non-stealth design,

The closest plane is the F-16. However, even if they are similar in size, the JAS 39 is a Bugatti Veyron in comparison. It's more maneuverable, flies faster, has better radar and weapons. Oh, and it's cheaper as well.

@@azynkron The Viper has a higher thrust to weight ratio though. More powerful engine and a tiny bit faster at sea level. They are very comparable to be honest, which isn't a bad thing for the Gripen. The Viper is a fantastic jet.

Yes, I only had that one camera, and not enough experience to keep the planes in frame, and in focus at the same time. The autofocus on that camera can't handle the clouds. It causes severe focus breathing. I hope to bring several cameras next time. I am sketching on a rig where I can have at least two cameras on the same tripod so I can follow with a camera zoomed out, while shooting with another zoomed in so I can cut between the two.

I love our modern fighters. They keep us safe. But visually for me the pinup centerfold of fighters has always been the F-20 Tigershark, a failure that should've been a success. It's beautiful from every angle. However it must surrender its crown to the Gripen. I'd look so good in that cockpit. Why can't I be 40 years younger with 20/10 vision? Not alot to ask. Life isn't fair. And btw, Sweden, you rock!

It was hard to keep up with the airplanes. I used much focus, and was having a hard time to keep the planes in frame. But I think the footage is better than earlier footage from Malmen in Linköping so I am getting better.

Yes, I am a armature, What I thought I succeeded in better this time was I figured out a way to feed the speakers narration into my footage. Some people didn't like that since it was in Swedish, but I think it is of superior quality to last time. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2iueWSsitKhoq8 But I also think the Panasonic200e is not well suited for this kind of filming. I think a standard DSLR camera would be better with easier access to zoom and manual focus. The weight of the camera makes it necessary to use a tripod to last filming with this camera all day.

Länge sedan filmen lades upp, men ett tips för att inte tappa bort planen under flygning/filmning: använd sökaren på kameran men titta samtidigt på flyget med andra ögat, planet i sökaren blir suddigt för dig, men så länge dessa två plan ligger i mitten av bilden din samsyn ger så kan du följa dem med kameran och har den autofokus så blir filmen så bra som möjligt.

This is all the footage I have from that day. I put it into a playlist #FMFLYGDAG2018. I'm sorry I am not better at filming. I had quite big problems keeping up with the aircrafts at full zoom. Especially with the rest of the crowd being shoulder to shoulder to me. The Panasonic HVX200e used was a descent camera, but it was designed for press-conferences. Then it may be the tell signs of a poor videogapher to blame it on equipment. But after all I am a armature, and since 20:th och January 2018 I am not getting payed for making any of this.

@@MaskinJunior Att stänga av autofokusen och ställa fokus till "oändligt" eller "fjärr" eller vad det kan stå på din kamera, skulle göra väldigt stor skillnad. Planen är alltid så långt bort att det kommer att vara skarpt med den inställningen, och du slipper helt och hållet problemen med autofokus som hela tiden justerar, och väldigt ofta missar. Ett annat tips är att ha en konstant zoomnivå, eller i alla fall aldrig zooma in mer än att du kan behålla båda planen i bild samtidigt, hela tiden. Det kan vara en idé att låsa exponeringen också, men är det moln som den här dagen kan det variera lite för mycket, men generellt är det att rekommendera. Kameran är ju riktigt bra och har massa funktioner, så läs manualen, testfilma och öva mycket på fåglar, bilar, båtar och sånt, så kommer nästa flygplansvideo att se väldigt proffsig ut! Lycka till!

As mentioned by Corvus Corax J29 was in Congo. Also, the SAAB 37 saved a SR-79 www.popularmechanics.com/military/aviation/a25349308/swedish-pilots-medals-sr-71-blackbird/ And the SAAB 39 has been on air-patrol in Libya, a mission that is mostly classified.

@@CorvusCorax. J-29 also saw action over the Baltic by chasing away (without firing) Russian MiGs after the Russians shot down a DC-3 and a S&R Catalina and murdered the surviving crew by strafing the life rafts. Roughly the same time as the Congo crisis.

These Gripen's turn on a dime , & what air brake system for slow moving aircraft , impressive manoeuvrability ???? If the Brits & its allies would of had these aircraft in the Battle of Britain Lutwaff would of lasted 5 minutes , lol ????

Affer BVR missiles like Meteor and AIM-120C dogfight it's over.

Gripen can carry that missiles. This was a public demonstration of a training exercise. Gripen has high capability to fight late in total war. It doesn't require optimal circumstances like a functional air Base to operate. Just 800x10 meters of straight hard faced reasonable flat surface to take off and land on.

They thought so in Vietnam era too. Dogfight will always be a back up plan.
