Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett Situation Explained - Pittsburgh Steelers. Coach Mike Tomlin and The Pittsburgh Steelers have obviously in my opinion made the decision to let Kenny Pickett resume his spot at Quarterback #1 for a reason. I believe I may have figured out what Coach Tomlin was thinking.

I’m a lifelong Steelers fan since the 70s. I wish Mason was our starter. Mason deserves better than how the Steelers treated him so if I were him I’d tell them to go shove it!

Kenny’s best game of the season was not his last full start against the Bengals, where everyone was so pumped about his zero TD performance against a terrible defense. His best game was way back in week 3 in Las Vegas.

Correct me if I'm wrong didn't Pickett look really good in camp and preseason this past season? Once the season started, he was awful. It wasn't all Canada. When Pickett played, you never believed the team would pick up a third and long. It was really ruff watching him

Mason Will be back. This is home for Mason. Only way I see him going elsewhere is if he gets a guaranteed starting position. Kenny will get better. It took him 4 years to figure out the college level. And once he did he light the field up every weekend. And Mitch better not be in the NFL next season and if he is it better not be with the Steelers

Kenny Pickett STINKS!!! Wake Up!!! He has played 24 games and all he does is make the first read and runs!!! Do you really think Pickett will become a good QB in this league? Your nuts!!! Everybody Blamed Canada but you know the reason Canada’s system sucked it’s because Kenny had no ability to play the NFL level! He won’t get much better and get ready for another mediocre season! For the Steelers to become real Super Bowl Contenders again they need radical changes! Tomlin will not get this team to another Superbowl and neither will Kenny! The only issue I have with what you're saying is that judging who will be QB1 based from a camp scenario VS an actual game/playoff-like game scenario is apples & oranges. It doesn't compare. Mason proved under fire, season on the line, under real do or die type games what he can do and did it way better than Kenny. You don't always go up against the best competition in preseason (team 1, team 2 etc.) and I think it's crazy to use camp as a judge to who will be your starting QB - especially when we all watched what Mason was able to do vs what Kenny did for 2 seasons. The differences are wide. Under Mason, we resembled an actual NFL offense. They offensively came together. I'm not a Kenny hater, but true in-game actions speak louder to me than a camp setting ever will. Mason showed us something we haven't seen since Ben in game. He also unified the offense, something we haven't seen since Ben. That stuff shouldn't be ignored.

@@twowordsmadeinamerica Coaching? Like I was saying, I have nothing against Kenny either. Mason just stepped up and he learned his position, and quite well at that. Staying strong in the pocket and still make those great throws under pressure impressed me the most. Mason reads the defenses very quickly and is on time with the delivery. I think people can't get past certain things from years ago. So they overlook Mason. But he is clearly not that anymore. He also has the best arm in the room, even when Ben was there. I'd hate to see the Steelers let him get away.

That’s correct. Tomlin said it in code. Mason doesnt have a contract yet. And given the contracts signed 2 years ago, Mason had to be number 3 given payment, etc. I believe Mason has been aware of this which is why he’s been so kind all these years. I bet Tomlin even told him “you’re the best we got but contractual you gotta be number 3 until xyz happens”.

Purely an opinion that is based on speculation.. i attended training camp and mason Rudolph had to do push ups after every practice for mental mistakes .. i did not see kenny doing a single push up. Mason consistently misses throws in training camp.. got the videos to prove it .. kenny is qb1 .. we simply gave mason a shot .. bc he was the hot hand .. exactly as tomlin said kenny will be the future.

Kenny Pickett was appointed the starter by being a #1 draft choice, he did not earn the position by his performance. He seems to have very low pocket poise which is criticlal for success as a quarterback. Mason showed superior poise as well as passing accuracy.

Mike Tomlin also said that one mans misfortune is another man opportunity. Mason got another one and showed out making KP look kinda bad. He didn't lose his job but he's about to because after listening to Mason talk he wants to stay in Pittsburgh. I don't see the Steelers spending money on a veteran QB when now they know they got one but they will probably draft another one and Mitch will be gone.

I agree Tomlin, Ben, and this group completely screwed the whole Mason situation up, no doubt - been saying it for years now - but the rest of the league passed on him in 2023 too - and he could have easily been signed for league minimum anywhere else. He ended up firing his agent because he was told there was a lot of interest when there was none. The new agent he hired told him the truth - Pittsburgh was his only option, unless he wanted to pursue a career outside of football. Not saying he won't sign somewhere else if it's a great offer, but if all offers are close to being equal, there's a good chance he will re-sign.

Tomlin and the Steelers have lied before about there being a real QB competition. Follow the $. Given that Pickett cost a #1 pick and Trubisky got a decent sized free agent contract, it was all a sham. Rudolph is the best QB of the 3 (granted a low bar) but I wouldn’t trust the Steelers if I were him and would bolt if I get a decent offer elsewhere. The Steelers have no choice but to start Pickett in 2024 because they need to assess him for his potential yr 5 option, but if I were them I’d offer Rudolph decent $ to stay because no retread veteran they sign or new guy they draft will be as good as Rudolph in taking over the reins after Pickett leaves no doubt about his mediocrity.

Steelers have their QB1 in Mason. The Eye Test showed me that Mason is a 6'5" strong arm QB with arm talent, QB IQ, Pocket Presence, Poise, and that can deliver the ball to this talented Group of offensive players. I haven't felt this good about a Steelers QB since Big Ben 2017 Season. Mason looked Dam Good and Played very well. We Beat the Bills if the ILB room is not depleted. In Particular Kwon Alexander! Cut Trubisky (3 Mil), Peterson (7 Mil), Cole (5 Mil), Chuks (9Mil) and Robinsons (10Mil)! That's 33 Mil. Do not Resign Levi Wallace. Resign Kwon Alexander! Pick up Najee 5th year option. Draft Center is the first Priority. Draft DT Second Priority, Draft CB and ILB are the 3rd and 4th priorities. You Restructure CAM! And Add Qualities Veterans through Free Agency. Remember Mason Re-signed with the Steelers last off season. If he wanted to leave he could have. Tomlin Knows Mason is the QB1 Finally!

The real QB1 competition starts when Omar calls Rudolph's agent. Rudolf should be able to get more than Trubisky's $5M and should shoot for no less than double Kenny's annual of $3.5M. Jacoby Brisset got $8M. There shouldnt be bad feelings between Rudolph and the Steelers because no one else wanted Rudolph and the Steelers signed him to a better than fair deal for a 3rd. Also keep in mind the whole Myles Garret fiasco probably tinged Rudolphs career a bit from Garret's likely BS version of those events. Rudolph probably has support in the locker room and great receivers, so there are good reasons to stay if the deal is good.

There’s not a Steelers Nation armchair football expert or TV talking head that spoke up for Rudolph when Ben was playing but in decline; or when Ben retired; or when Trubiaky got the job; or when Pickett got called up. They were all cricket a$$ quiet about Rudolph - probably because they were unimpressed by his past performance. Omar, Coach T and that Rooney’s will have to resolve things but and it’s complicated by Rudolph’s free agency. But they apparently saw what y’all saw until we all saw something altogether different from him

I really believe the light came on for Mason.but he can't be QB1 until he gets a new contract. A QB can have a winning record but not be the cause of it, The tale is two games against Cleveland. Pickett gets credit for the win when the D scored two touchdowns and the second he was bad and could not score enough.

If you're not good enough to control your own destiny,then chances are really high that you are going to get beat because of your consistent predictably. At 7-4 KP gets hurt, and you can't decipher who the better Quarterback left on the roster is,some 17 years worth of NFL coaching experience that is. In the AFC North,he is last place since his last win in a playoff game. The disturbing thing about tomlinites, is they blame everyone else for playoff failure. Thanks 👍 I definitely hope so, after the game Mason did say he liked playing for the Steelers and we know based on Tomlin’s remarks that the Steelers are interested in keeping him. It looks like it’s going to come down to taking things over with his family and agent and what kind of interest he gets from around the league. He has to consider what he wants, more money may not mean the grass is greener on another team. Another team can sign him as a starter and just trade him soon after. The Steelers are loyal👍 I’ll feel better once there’s a contract. The Steelers really need him in 2024.

@@steelcitynews I just read that they interviewed Zac Robinson for the OC position. If that's the case, maybe the steelers are higher on Rudolph than they're letting on. Robinson coached Rudolph to prepare him for the Combine.

You will have Kenny doing Kenny next season, probably hurt by the second game and since Mitch is under contract, if Mason is gone, Mitch WILL be back! Tomlin said as much! Now picture Mason the QB of another AFC team and the Steelers have to play against him! It will be ugly what he will do to us! This could go real bad for the Steelers! That is Always a chance that you have to be willing to take .....let's not get it twisted we have done the same things in the playoffs with TJ Watt in games and CAM Hayward in games and Minka in playoffs games as we have without them and that is look average at best on defense.......we have the highest paid defense in football....and it's time to deal some of them for draft capital......as they are still worth trading now .....that would t be the case soon .....this team has under achieved a lot over the years .....as the Killer Bs produced very little and our defense has not been particularly good in any aspect of the game .....at one time and I'm going back to LeBeau we could at least stop the run and make a team o e dimensional....now we not only will give up plays in the passing game but if you get tired of throwing the ball just hand it to ur running back.....or run ur quarterback it's all the same ....and it don't matter who you put at quarterback if you are going I to a playoff game and the only game plan on offense is to run on first and second down and the other team knows it and they sellout to stop the run then you end up 3rd and 10 or 12 ......that will also set ur offense up for failure......If you don't trust ur quarterback with the ball on first down .....you can put a defensive lineman in at quarterback and get similar results......we been doing the same things over for years and looking for different results......it won't happen........Bill Cowher had that same problem until that road wildcard game in Indianapolis when he let Roethlisberger and the offense go out and get a lead ......funny how that works

Mason did well because the scheme was more aggressive.. kenny was still hurt the 2nd week mason started.. and then after 2 wins ..riding the hot is what we did vs throw in someone who had 2 or 3 weeks of rust and no reps .. kenny would have done just as well under new scheme .. Kenny will ball out with a new oc and yall will be giving him the gawk gawk 9000 next year
