One time a few years ago we needed a couple old bricks on the front of a building and they were the kind you simply couldn't buy for the last 80 years, so we cut a couple out of the back and put them in the front. The back got something "close" as a replacement. Better to have the front look nice and uniform.

I've learned so much from your channel and I appreciate your generosity with sharing these skills. A question: I'm doing a little patch up job on the outside of a foundation. Is there a simple way to make mortar waterproof or at least more water resistant? I'm kind of a small guy and there are a lot of stairs to climb, so honestly 50 lb bags are difficult for me to carry. I've been using the 25 lb box of Rapid set mortar. This works pretty well but I'm wondering if I mix a little Cement All with the Rapid set Mortar if that makes it more waterproof? Or maybe I could put the Mortar on first and then a thin slurry of something else? It doesn't have to last forever but if I can make it withstand the elements a little better that would be great. Is there a simple way (with 25 lb boxes or some other product) to make it more waterproof? Thanks. - Michael
@MikeHaduck4 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, I never seen a waterproof cement, usually I end up painting the steps with a deck stucco paint or Portland some people use a sealer but in winter it could be slippery, thanks mike

What if the metal is embedded in a retaining wall? We have to use rebar for code. Will the rebar be ok as long as we don't expose it to the outside of the wall?

Hi Grassy, if the inspector says put it in you dont have a choice, I doubt if you get anything in writing unless he approved the plans, thanks mike

OK. Just need to tear the building down and rebuild with a new available tile material to have full coverage without flaws. But if your OCD is serious about fixing it, I guess you gotta do that. Look at Mike's jacket! Use your OCD energy to send him some gorilla tape to fix that seam first. It's a much bigger crack, and you should work in order from biggest problem to smallest like that.
