When the heretics departed from them, they neither warned the galaxy at large nor made any communication disowning them or their actions for two years after Sovereign’s attack on the Citadel, leaving everyone to think there was no distinction. What men want does not matter. Winter is almost upon us, boy. And winter is death. I would sooner my men die fighting for the Ned's little girl than alone and hungry in the snow, weeping tears that freeze upon their cheeks. No one sings songs of men who die like that. As for me, I am old. This will be my last winter. Let me bathe in Bolton blood before I die. I want to feel it spatter across my face when my axe bites deep into a Bolton skull. Giving smokers a THC-laced cig and letting them believe it's only a normal, untampered with cig, and then acting friendly to them and letting them chatter away happily and nodding and giving a few approving comments has proven to be much more effective at actually getting useful information, out of people than torture. @@antonhallergren588 Zaeed is right though, in the sense that torturing someone has a negative effect on both the victim and the torturer. I get that some people deserve punishment, but inflicting brutal punishment changes you for the worse usually.
@Bloblom3 жыл бұрын
@@antonhallergren588 No crime can ever excuse the use of torture, that's the point of having principles and morals : following them no matter the situation, if you're willing to break them, you just broke them forever. Also punitive justice has never worked, former societies had much more horrible punishments to dissuade criminals, but it never worked, you'd have to get rid of the underlying causes of crimes for that (example with pedophiles - most if not all were also victims of child abuse, which is a well known cause of criminality). Either you can rehabilitate someone or you isolate them from society, punishments and torture don't magically turn people into kind and friendly individuals, in fact it generally makes them worse, and it doesn't help society either, by that logic, it's pointless and counterproductive.

The fact it's a Turian beating a human while he's down is actually a very good lore tidbit, because most Turians don't like humans because they didn't roll over when the Hierarchy came in and demanded they submit.

Morinth does have unique dialogue in some areas. It doesn't occur until after she switches to her own attire in Samara's quarters. For instance, (in her own voice) she says something along the lines of "How wonderfully brutal the Krogan race is" on Tuchanka.

@thesixthkid76893 жыл бұрын
Shepard is the only thing standing between Tali and Legion and seeing which one is the torturerer and the tortured. After all the first thing she did after seeing him was shoot him. If he wasn't a Geth he probably would've shot back.
@thesixthkid76893 жыл бұрын
@Gi Gi I'm saying that's first impressions. Recall how those other Quarians wanted to "study" Legion? If it wasn't for Shepard Tali would be on board with doing so.
@thesixthkid76893 жыл бұрын
@Gi Gi torture isn't necessarily needlessly causing pain, unless the intent is punishment. In the video they said that the tortured would give up false information but I say that's only if they're innocent, if they got the right guy then they will give up the right information in hopes of being let go. If the scientists had their way they would torture all Geth for what they did to them and like I said, if it wasn't for Shepard being the water to cool the fire then it probably would come to pass and Tali would join them for failing to join Shepards team and actually getting to know Legion.
@thesixthkid76893 жыл бұрын
@Gi Gi actually the guilty break and give up the truth, the innocent however yeah, that's true. They'll say whatever the torturerer wants to hear for the pain to stop. Main reason why people were burned at the stake in real life for being "witches" or possessed by demons when in reality they either had seizures or were in pain by diseases so they made medicine. Often times however they relied on confessions so they were tortured and NOW it's pretty fucking obvious they were innocent so they cracked and said yeah they were witches and demons. No one stood up for them either because both the accused and the person who stood for them would die. Back then because everything was so unreliable it's difficult to find someone who was actually guilty but if you did they would definitely give up the truth, and wish you would die in the most slowest and gruesome death in possible existence but the truth all the same for the pain to stop.
@thesixthkid76893 жыл бұрын
@Gi Gi that's one variable that goes with even normal interrogation, deals or simple transactions, you may be doing the wrong person and wasting your time. Much like an innocent being interrogated and coerced to confess, not tortured, just interrogated. Obviously they were wronged and the real criminal got away. The actual criminal will know the real facts, keep their guard up so they ain't falling for coercion as easily. How you know what they say is real is what you know as hidden facts that no one else should know unless they're guilty.

I can't help but love Thane's words here the best, Garrus, Zaeed, and Legion give the most direct and true answers about the ineffectiveness of torture. Grunt, Samara, Tali, Jacob, Miranda, and Mordin all sound angry, disgusted by the scene in front of them. But Thane sounds, almost offended, he knows what he is, and he's killed plenty of people himself, but the scene in front of him is the antithesis of how he sees himself as an assassin.

Sometimes you have to do unpleasant things to the individual in the name of the "big" picture...if a terrorist has time/date/location/method of an attack, and will not tell when you say please, well...the ends justify the means....if you can stop a suicide bomber, and save 400 life's, sometimes water boarding or other methods are nessary...remember they are NOT POW's, and not under the Geneva conventions....while yes, you made the terrorist to start off with by invading there country, and using gunboat diplomacy, and parking a aircraft carrier carrier off there coast, and then blowing the crap out of people with f-18's, you started the cycle, and and it is like a hammer on its wheel...around it goes...

"[torture] is a poor technique that yields unreliable results, may damage subsequent collection efforts, and can induce the source to say what he thinks the interrogator wants to hear." - from the U.S. Army field manual on intelligence interrogation. All moral arguments aside, torture is not an effective way to obtain reliable information. Also, the right to not be tortured is considered a basic human right for everyone (regardless of combatant status) according to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which the US signed.
@CorporalHicks810 жыл бұрын
But what they said was true. They'll tell you what they think you want to make it stop. That's why police interrogators get so many false confessions because they terrify and stress the suspect into confessing to thing they sometimes didn't do.

All true...if a man is being Tortured, he will admit that he is a fairy Princess with magic pixie dust.....just to have it stop, but in "my" personal opinion, after you say please, and it is still a no answer, sometimes you have to step it up.....if 1 terrorist has to be water boarded for 3 hours, and that saves a 767 plane being hijacked and all 700 passengers, and it also stops the plane from flying into a us sky scraper, like on 9/11, lets say that that building has 7,000 INNOCENT men women and children, well you hurt 1 person, but saved 7,700+ lives....
