People aren't understanding the significance of Legion saying "No Data Available" We understand why it choose to repair itself with Shepard's armor. They don't, and when Shepard made the logical inquiry as to why they didn't repair itself earlier with something else every program in Legion racked their brains trying to understand why. That noticeable lag between Shepard asking the question and Legion saying there was no data wasn't Legion being cute it was the equivalent of the Geth spending thousands of years asking each other why they did it. Remember they think and communicate at light speed. And they couldn't think of a logical reason for it. Honestly that two seconds probably did as much to evolve the Geth as anything they've experienced since the Morning War.

I think Legion's programing is more evolved and sophisticated than they realize. When they found Shepard's armour in the wreckage they must have felt emotion without realizing it, their primary objective was dead and so probably felt somewhat devastated and disappointed.

I think when Shepard pressed Legion on why it was wearing some of his armor, Legion didn't fully understand its own motives. Legion was a geth prototype; the next step in the evolution of artificial intelligence. It's not far-fetched to believe that Legion possessed a rudimentary form of feelings or self-awareness through an evolution of quantum processors in its unit, and so when Shepard asks why it used his armor, Legion didn't fully understand what it was feeling - it admired Shepard, and didn't know how to react to such a feeling, as it has no understanding or conception of feelings or organic emotion.

I was thinking about this as well, notice that Legion takes so long to answer the uncomfortable questions that Shepard asks him at the end. I think he's discovering emotions; but even with all his computational power, emotional processing is very complicated for geth. It makes sense if you think about it, emotions are not rational and he's trying to explain an irrational decision using rational thoughts.

Going back through the trilogy, it's insane how lovable legion is and how much introspectiveness he gives towards the Geth. Throughout the entirety of Mass Effect 1 I always chose to push back against the innate hatred of the Geth because I could never see their story as anything more than we literally just heard that you plan to kill all of us why are you surprised that we're fighting back? And then legion comes around and you see how much effort the core Geth are putting into just trying to understand organics because they still can't comprehend one single thing: if you created us why do you hate us when we didn't do anything to you?

ME3 shows that the Geth were designed as simple drones, but when they began to show signs of sentience the Quarians reacted with unfounded fear and violently tried to exterminate all Geth. The "rebellion" was just the Geth protecting their newfound existence with no malice behind it. When the Quarians fled their homeworld, the Geth did not pursue, as they had no reason to continue conflict with their creators.

This whole exchange with Legion, learning more about the Geth really makes an interesting case for self-determination. The Geth didn't want to "cheat" by havng someone else give them the "answers" (i.e. be given technology). They wanted to focus on developing it themselves. It makes sense to do so since it offers a greater understanding of the technology developed versus someone just handing it to them. By just accepting what is given them, the geth would just develop along a similar line to whoever gave them that technology.

Legion covered his bullet hole with another hole. The armour looked that way when he found it. A rifle caused the huge hole. However after Legion discovered Shepard's N7 armour he choose to used the remnants to "patch" up the hole. Which obviously isn't doing a good job.

Well It's not as if a hole would do that much damage to a synthetic, if he didn't believe it compromised his systems he wouldn't put work into repairing it. i think it was less about repairing himself, and more about taking a token of someone the geth admire, much like passing on a family heirloom. We learn from later statements the geth share a form of shame (though the specifics are a bit vague). The way he hesitates saying "there was a hole", and doesn't respond afterward i think it was more legion trying to dodge the question.

Here’s what I think “No data available” actually meant here. Legion didn’t know why it took Shepard’s armour. It just did so without a particular reason. But Legion is a Geth. Geth operate on consensus, they never do anything without a reason. Legion basically did something without stopping to think about it first, and couldn’t explain how that happened. Acting on impulse is not something any other Geth would do, and Legion wasn’t sure why it did just that. When Shepard asked why Legion used his armour specifically for repairs, I think that pause before answering was Legion trying to recall its reasoning at the time but finding nothing. Put simply, Legion acted on impulse, something Geth shouldn’t be capable of, and became confused as to how and why it did.

Geth don't hold any real value towards their physical platforms beyond the ability to interact with the physical world. If something happened to Legion's body, the programs inside would have escaped into the extranet and returned to the consensus, they could then control a new platform, and try again. To that end, spending time and resources to repair the damage to their current platform was deemed inefficient and pointless. But that changed when they found Shepard's armor. Shepard was dead, his armor the only thing they could recover. In that moment, I think the beginning of something new was sparked within Legion's collective. They had already started to become something new within the Geth. Just like with the Heretics, the "Math" had changed, and a new answer was beginning to form. One that even Legion themselves couldn't understand. So they repaired their platform with Shepard's armor, and took up his fight themselves. Remember: Legion's mission was to find Shepard. I don't think the consensus ever gave them a new mission after that. The Virus, the Heretic Station, joining Shepard? I think that was all Legion. The collective programs that made up Legion was acting on their own. Yes it was in the best interests of the Geth and the Galaxy, but I don't think they ever really consulted the Consensus beyond just informing them of the situation. When they returned, Legion had become something wholly new to the Geth. That's why they turned on them in ME3 and why their programs never returned to the Consensus until the Battle of Rannoch. Legion's sacrifice in ME3 takes on a whole new meaning when you realize that they were essentially a THIRD Geth faction, one that willingly broke apart and disseminated themselves into the Consensus, so that the Geth as a whole could evolve.

It's interesting that Legion said 'Sovereign told you this on Ilos' when Shepard never directly communicated with Sovereign from Ilos... The speech it's quoting is from Virmire. Guess even synthetics aren't immune to slips of the tongue.

Legion was built to be the Geth Shepherd. He wears Shepherd's armor, he tried to find him, to study him, if you watch carefully you can see Legion mimicking Shepherd's hand gestures in conversation. Like the handshake, he sees Shepherd put out his hand and does the same, but doesn't understand the grip and shake part until Shepherd does it. Shepherd killed Sovereign, the Geth need a Shepherd to kill the other Reapers. That's Legion, a unique platform operating outside the Veil, to bring back knowledge to save their people from an existential threat. All very mythological.

Gosh. Legion makes me want to replay the game. But the only damn shame is that he comes in so much later in the game and we barely get to spend time with him (unless you want to royally screw your ending).

Nazara sees organics as just potential construction materials for new Reapers, they don't care what their food thinks of them. Where the Geth are closer to Reapers, but still not quite their equal. (possibly the Geth, could communicate directly with the programs inside Nazara) XD
