If you use vanguard, most people imagine Garrus and Shepard doing some real team work, but usually what happens is either : 1. Shepard flies around the battle field while Garrus is confused who to shoot. 2. Garrus shoots everything down before Shepard does anything useful. 3. Shepard lifts while Garrus shoots.

Engineer and soldier are the most compatible with Garrus imho. Engineer's drone and turret (+ decoy) are nice distractions for the enemies, which allows Garrus to shoot without interruption. I don't think I need to explain why soldier is a good combo with Garrus. Con shot is a broken OP ability.

Not true. Garrus is great when there is an enemy you can't reach or some of the thick boy enemies. Shepard takes out fodder while Garrus is DPS.

@roma540 I will out kill Garrus with Vanguard no matter what loadout you give him and tell him who to target. Every time. The AI blows in the ME games so the only reliable thing Garrus does better than a Vanguard is DPS. And that's largely because Typhoon is a busted weapon.

Garrus and Ashley equipped with Typhoons and their respective ammo powers maxed out will kill anything in seconds. I saw them kill an Atlas in 10 seconds on insanity. I didn't fire a shot.

Thank you for this. I've been playing ng+ on Insanity and not looking forward to the trench run in London (banshees, brutes, mauraders over and over and over). I've seen several comment threads where players say "give your guys a 'Typhoon and watch them clean up' but no one has included builds or even the whys of a Typhoon over a different weapon. I've taken James with me on the first half of Priority: London in previous plays but never considered using him in the last half. Garrus was always a given, but usually with a sniper. This combination of weapons and squad build was literally a game changer for me. Plat'd the trilogy yesterday and will always take these two with me on replays from now on (although not on insanity again: I'm an old Grandma and this was too much frigging sustained adrenalin for me).

Basically the build you want with the Typhoon is damage. Every single skill you can upgrade that gives more damage, screw health, powers and squad bonuses. The reason the Typhoon is so powerful for squadmates and Garrus I particular is because of how squad accuracy works. The Typhoon has high damage and an insane rate of fire, practically a mini-gun. It's balanced by having huge recoil and spread so for Shep it's really hard to use. It's practically impossible to be accurate with and most of your shots will miss at anything medium range or further even if you can control the recoil. Teammates however get very little spread and recoil because their aim controlled by their AI. Basically they get all of the benefits with non of the drawbacks. This with Garrus being able to increase his damage by around 220% with all his skills means he absolutely shreds brutes, banshees and harvesters. It's impossible for Shepard or any other character to come close to the DPS Garrus can. Hope that added some context for you.

Incendiary ammo rank 6 should be explosive for james, any weapon with high rate of fire and relatively low damage per bullet benefits more from it than the 10% base damage increase

Will NG+ still unlock the Insanity 3 achievement? I went through ME1 and ME2 on a fresh Soldier to get Insanity 1 and 2, but I want to NG+ ME3 on my old Vanguard, but idk if all the Insanities have to be on one career.

i think as long as u finish on insanity, doesn't matter if you switch class or career. achievements are a trilogy-wide calculation, not an in-game property

Thank you for the great tips, really useful stuff! I found these tips almost when I ended the game on Insanity. In my playthrough, I concentrated more on powers than weapons (biotic explosions are best). For companions same thing. But I thought what if I use the provided tips for Armax Combat Simulator, where you need to fight other Shepards on Insanity (Normal and Hardcore can be as well) to earn "The One and Only" achievement. And as a result - it did the trick on the first try!!!!!!! However, I used all the powers I could at the maximum and nearly died at the end because one of the Shepards decided to go for hand-to-hand combat.

I think it has less to do with garrus and the soldier types being op than it does most the rest being underpowered. Like Liara has great powers, but she goes down like a sack of rocks if an enemy catches her and her weapon damage is bad. Others like Edi also have good powers and are more durable, but the powers have stupid long cooldowns and their weapon damage sucks the rest of the time. The rifle gunners are just consistently high damage and durable, the powers are just a bonus.

Always enjoys these types of videos. Only critique I would give for specifically Vega. Is going with Explosive Burst with Incendiary Ammo. Mind if going with Garrus and Vega as shown it doesn't really matter. But I find Explosive Burst is even more general damage for final upgrade. Also mind never confirmed, but I find it easier to prime for fire explosions as well or seems when I play. Mind it's overkill anyway so though critique it isn't really vital. Also never cared for Proximity Mine on Garrus and personally place the 4-6 tier of points in Concussion Shot. But again that is splitting hairs and not major really 😅 Again enjoyed watching and though I've played the series a ton I always enjoy watching other people's guides. I'm sure this helped many that might had difficulty so as a fellow gamer I thank you.

Surprised Explosive Burst evolution wasn't taken for James. Especially taking into account his 20% Power Damage passive. While he is not as deadly as Garrus or Ashley he can still pack a hell of a punch with it. Also Armor Penetration mod for him, Ashley or any other squadmate capable of using Typhoon seems like a nobrainer since they can't ignore 50%-75% out of 50 points of damage reduction (on Insanity) from armor for each shot like Garrus can. Omega's weapon mod combines AP mod with Extended Barrel at the cost of additional 50 pounds of weight - which doesn't matter for squadmates anyway (they end up with 50% to 90% of Ignoring armor penalty). Typhoon I damage per bullet is 20 ramping up to 40 at maximum firing rate, even taking Into account it's innate 50% damage bonus against all protections and other weapon damage passives 50 points of armor damage reduction is not insignificant. Good video though.

Tbh, ME1 is the only game in the trilogy that even requires you to use weapons. In my first like 10 playthroughs I never once shot a single bullet on insanity in ME2 and 3. Later on I did on occasion, but not out of necessity but purely out of curiosity. Power explosions and biotic charge are way too overpowered in ME2 and 3. I use my squad only for primers and occasionally for crowd control. They usually don't make a single kill since I order them to hide somewhere in order to just survive. I like taking out all the enemies myself. 😅

Tali with the eviscerator Shotgun, her Energy Drain, & her Combat Drone with the Rockets at lvl 6 bypass her defense drone just use combat drone & energy drain for shields. Barriers in ME3 is nothing on insanity

Do you really just need the achievement for saving the galaxy to attain NG+ or do you also need to use the same Shepard and do a second ME3 playthrough right after the first ME3 playthrough as opposed to a full series playthrough? I know, convoluted question but I found it annoying that in the original trilogy an NG+ did not occur for the whole franchise. Just an additional playthrough of the game you just finished.

Each game is separated into its own NG+. The Shepard you carry over from each game gets benefits such as certain story elements and gameplay bonuses. To obtain NG+ for any of the ME games you need to complete the game at least once and restart the game with the same save file. There's no NG+ linked to all 3 games.

The extended barrel should be paired with the piercing mod. This combination is much more effective in dealing with armored opponents. The larger magazine is only effective with weapons that don’t have a large capacity to begin with. In my experience the extended barrel and the piercing mod is the best combination for all party members, including the player.

Wait, are you seriously picking the Damage option over the Explosive Burst for Incendiary Ammo? Do you really think that 10% more damage is more than 50 damage for every bullet (100 damage per explosion with a 50% chance to explode) fired? Not only that, but squadmates with this skill do the full 100 damage, because their power damage isn´t reduced, unlike their weapon damage. With a rapid-firing weapon, that´s a no brainer.

You do realize that damage is capped at 100 whereas the other option allows for constant damage. Which is worthless when facing single powerful enemies that do not panic and constantly move like Brutes, Harvesters, and Banshees. 30% to health per hit + 30% per hit on armor vs 100 points of damage for an occasional trigger that is capped and does not reset if the pools overlap. Also no, it does 50% which is labeled on the squad damage option. Please learn to read. Not to mention since its capped at 100 it always does 100, whereas the 30% is added to all damage. So if your weapon is at level 5 that 30% is added to the damage output of that weapon's level. That's a no brainer, and pretty dumb.

@@carlysimmons6981 Except the final evolution only adds around 10% more damage. Even with high-damage single shot weapons, that is NOT likely to be more than 50 per bullet. If you choose the Explosive Burst, you still get roughly 20% bonus damage from the previous evolutions, but in addition, you also get the explosion. The explosion follows the same mechanics as Incendiary Ammo, which means it doesn´t work on shields and barriers, but it does explode on armor and health. The general consensus on forums is that with rapid-firing weapons, as well as shotguns (they fire 8 pellets, so on average, 4 of them will explode), you want to go with explosive. Theoretically, you would go damage with slow-firing weapons, such as the Mantiss, but these are generally better with Armor-piercing. I have tested it pretty thouroughly back it the day. The damage on full-auto weapons isn´t high enough for the 10% to be worth it. Also, if you are playing a class with no ammo powers, it might be worth it to spec James´ fire ammo into squad ammo in rank 4. Even with the 50% reduction, it still doubles or triples the damage of your lightweight weapons, such as the Avenger.

That means banshees, atlases, harvesters, primes just by logic have about 10,000 health. 100 points? You'd be better off walking up and kicking them
