MrCurbinator sure no X-ray vision but when you point your gun in the general direction of an enemy you get a ui that tells you exactly where he is and how much health he has left. Personally I feel that's may as well be the same thing.

I can't believe they actually added the scan planets thing they done after ME1. I admit that the planet exploration got a bit boring in the first one but at least you had freedom! instead of making the exploration better they just abandoned the landing on planets and deploying the Mako and replaaced it with one of my biggest grievances about the ME2/3, I fucking hated scanning planets and they kept that same shitty mechanic in this one.......I'm OUT!

Marmite Hawk - Fair enough, if you want to just quickly scan planets and pick up resources there should be an option for that, like auto-rectify battles in Total War games. I want to actually go down to the planet, find the objective and do something to claim the reward. The fact they just abandoned the planet exloration annoyed me, even though I get the argument that a lot of people complained and it was changed. It could be done better Imo.

Andy - Yeah it was just a big letdown for me. I was going into systems and not interacting with anything in any real way. There could have been a compromise, e.g - Scan the planet, find a resource, beacon etc - land, explore a little, find the resource, a little combat sometimes (some native monster attacks or mercs are going for the same beacon), defeat them, drive back to ship, take off.....say, 15/20 mins per planet or an option to just resolve if you're like the other guy ^^^

The exploration from 1 done better woulda been wonderful. The vistas from ME1 were fuckin incredible, the freedom was great, but it was under developed and would get repetitive quick, even the bases where you had some mission had the same layout. You just needed to improve upon it, make it diverse and with several points of interest, and why not, tweak the makos driving. Otherwise, removing it for shitty scanning didn't do anything good for the game.

What is good about the ME games? I tried all 3. Could not even finish one of them due to incredibly boring story, tedious and clunky gameplay. The first one when it came was unplayable due to melting the 360's hardware. So when I tried it on PC many years later it was smooth, but still boring and clunky as fuck. ME is hyped beyond imagination

Well, I do like a good story and are not unpatient. I love Bioware's Knight of the old republic (only the first game). Loved the atmosphere there, the dialogue and the choices to be good / evil. Guess ME just isn't for me. Didn't find any of it interesting.

You should definitely try to first 1-2 games in the series for comparison if you like the general concept of this type of rpg. Pretty much everything you criticized in this video isn't an issue in the first 2 games. I haven't played the 3rd so I can't comment in it. Playing the first 1-2 games won't make Andromeda any better but it will help you understand why people fell in love with the series back when real effort was put into it and EA had minimal or non-existant influence.

crazy 5 years later and a 2080 super cant lock 60fps at 4k. Maybe a 3080 will. I put about 100 hours into this game, I agree with the wack a mole. I played for the story lol. This game was a royal pain in the tail end to enable HDR too on pc. It was like, if you got it to finally engage after switching on and off on and off you best leave the game running or the next day it wouldn't work.

cagnazzo people have no taste especially ps4 players, they will lap onto whatever game comes out in order to validate their consoles purchase, zero dawn laso has gameplay issues, roll alll the time and just bow and arrows for the next 20 hours or so. open world but you cant go certain parts till you keep on goin with story, story is just an afterthought. facial animations are also laughable especially for npc. zero dawn wouldve made a great monster hunter game had they gona that route.

The N64 version was ass and the old PC version had an inferior soundtrack and insidiously bad FOV, and there is too little ammo for the weapons. The new release fixes the core design issues with the immediate gameplay while adding several graphical, audio, and convenience features. Nightdive let me appreciate a classic for the first time. I highly recommend it.

I was never interested in this game, they were emphasising the wrong things about Mass effect in the marketing like better combat this, more combat options that........... I recently played the trilogy on my own without buying it from the hype back in the day, loved the story, especially mass effect 3, dialogue felt really professional especially how I was going for a soldier type background with Shepard so I was very friendly at heart but at the heat of certain moments choices I had to live with had to be made, renegade choices...... those moments always felt badass. has anyone else noticed how weak and half arsed the male protagonist is compared to male Shepard in the first 3 games? i cant take the guy seriously or any of the other characters for that matter. i played the first 3 to completion years back and i remember the voice actor Mark Meer did great job doing the dialog where there was a lot more passion behind the words not to mention a much better writing over all. Almost every character had a unique personality and they were more believable. dont get me wrong it wasnt the best story writing/ dialog/animations etc, but i could tell a lot of heart went in to those games.

I knew Mack wouldn't like Mass Effect. It's the exact opposite of the kinds of games he likes. It's my favorite series ever though. Andromeda may or may not live up to the greatness of the original trilogy but I'm sure I'll like it no matter what just because it contains my three favorite elements, role-playing, exploration, and sci-fi.

Mass Effect 1 had a great story but crappy gameplay. Then they streamlined ME2, and had a huge detour when it came to the story, effectively crapping all over one. ME3 comes along, craps more over 1, barely acknowledges it and 2, and then rushes itself head first into "I don't know how to resolve what I've written so here are some crappy cop outs" ME: A's story looks to be an utter pile of crap, continuing from ME2 and ME3, with the characters now being a weak point instead of strong point. And the animations are actually WORSE than the previous 3 games. How could that happen? How does one get worse and not better?

Mack, you have to remember the history of Mass Effect. Bioware made this game on the back of their enormous success with KotOR and the pile of #$%# that followed it in KotOR2. They wanted to control the IP themselves so they made Mass Effect. That's why the force powers are in this game. That being said, you're 100% correct about the combat. It's not just this game. Mass Effect combat has always been absolute crap. The switch from turn-based combat in KotOR to real-time in Mass Effect resulted in a huge dumbing down to the point that it went from being an RPG to a crappy shooter with RPG elements.

The game isn't dumbed down because the developers think their fans are too stupid to figure out challenging puzzles or understand a deep storyline. It's dumbed down because the developers themselves are dumb and only know how to make something that is limited to their own mental capacities. There is a reason why older Bioware games were more challenging and didn't make you feel stupid, it's because no one from the old Bioware is around anymore. They all left and this is the best we're going to get by a bunch of untalented, genuinely shallow/dumb developers.

I watch worth a buy because of the humorous videos, some are bang on the mark, some i disagree with. Sometimes mack slags off a game I have had fun with. Mass Effect 2 was the epitome of the Mass Effect series. It all just went downhill from there, this game is pretty much "take cover here, pop up and shoot a couple of times, sit back down again". The dialog options are few, the gameplay is bland, the voice acting lacks emotion, the lip sync is horrible, the player`s animations are stiff and sometimes downright weird. Horribly disappointed with this, EA has proven that they can ruin just about any good game franchise.

Heya, I will not cancel mine. Even I agree with most stuff said here. Facial Expressions and character animations are VERY BAD. Bioware promised patch. Character Creation is a JOKE, worse then any previous Bioware game. It just doesn't look good. Music is AVERAGE, not as deep as in previous MEs Gameplay is not that bad, only thing I didn't get why they removed the pause stuff in previous games. In higher difficulty is the gameplay OK. Character story - well its trial, beginning of something new. It is NOT GOOD. Ryder personality is like a child, which probably should be, but its not fun. I hope it will develop further. Companions and story is ok, but sometimes annoying, boring. With the facial failure it is boring. The story telling of a DEAD EYES is interesting like a text readed while there is a screenshot. Questing, Research and other features looks OK. I am not sure where 40 million dollars went for, but probably most of it was consumed by bad management and poor developers salaries. Only reason I will not cancel the preorder is the hidden edge of the story telling. I am just curious as a ME fan, how its going to be. After I finish the game, I can say if it was or wasn't worth a buy. I am just trapped. Heartbroken fan atm.....Masochist probably :D

So I was spending last 2h of trial by re-creating main character (3x times, as You can't skip the intro), and I am finally somehow happy with it. The animations are still killing it, but hey, ok....there is nothing else to play. I must say I had fun to re-play the trial mission and I will gladly continue to play when released. Maybe it is my demission, maybe the game is not that bad.

I'm a solid pc gamer and i put mass effect 2 as one of the most gripping games IV played along with mafia, hl 2, stalker, elite dangerous and assassins creed, i enjoyed 1 and 3 too. the story was excellent. it looked decent on the unreal engine too. Andromeda has a new writer after the one from the previous 3 left bioware, it seems the company has new blood and new ideas which aren't always the best. also frostbite looks great for battlefield but maybe it's the wrong engine for ME Andromeda. the music used to be amazing too in the previous 3.

Minos the gameplay is miles better because it looks and feel like a RPG rather than a random shooter. As for the story I bet he would love it. Everything is interesting and ambiguous and you only have access to limited information. What you don't know scares you tenfold. In me2 and 3 you're like ..meh ..reapers..bunch of gellie bugs. In me 1 you don't know who they are, what they want, where they come from, what's their deal you literally start discovering everything. I honestly think Mac would like it. And I know he will like the planet exploration without any of this scanning crap going on. And he will totally dig the Mako. P.S. You know how at the end of ME3 you see liara's hologram telling you a story about the reapers and what happened to all the races that tried to fight them etc..? Well that's pretty much how ME1 starts where you find the Prothean A.I and you try your best to piece everything together. My opinion is that ME1 is better than a good scifi book.

What WAB gives you is one man's honest opinion of a game. It's refreshing. I loved mass effect 1&2, but when i watch this video it DOES look shit. It looks boring. I wonder if you played ME1 if your opinion would be the same? (death penalty was restart mission) It's the same as when you reviewed Horizon. The gameplay for ME2 and 3 are almost exactly like this just about 10 times clunkier, yet ME2 and 3 are still considered fantastic games by a massive amount of people (excluding ME3 ending). ME2 was specifically praised for the combat gameplay, which is garbage compared to this. If you don't like this gameplay, you would absolutely hate ME2 and 3 but you can't say that the games are objectively terrible because of it.

I actually think ME2 and 3s combat is better. Better cover usage, better aiming, active use of all abilities on your squad. It wasn't perfect, but the combat in ME:A isn't great for a 2017 game. Guns are weak, have insane spread, and enemies act like idiots.

Witcher 3 had incredibly mediocre combat and controls. Combat and controls are the two primary factors for gameplay. I don't understand how the hell people can say "oh, he didn't like Witcher 3, his argument's invalid" when CDPR THEMSELVES ended up patching the game to fix their movement to be tighter and more responsive (on release it was absolutely lacking in my opinion.)

"Voices are good." I understand how you could disagree with gameplay and such, but the voice actors are extremely poor. He even provided clips in the video of the voices. The voice actors seem lazy and the script itself is shit. And lot's of people care about face animations. Considering this is a Mass Effect, which relies heavily on dialogue, if you are staring at some plastic face that doesn't sync with what he is speaking, it's extremely immersion breaking. And there are many games that actually do talking properly, just take a look at The Witcher 3 for a perfect example. And that woudln't excuse Bioware for doing such a shit job with them anyway.

Sodapop Daniels I just don't see the issues as obvious as he claims in the video. The voice acting isn't great but it's not as choppy as the examples he gave. It feels as good in quality as me3 was and I find the combat and story to be intriguing. I played my full ten hours already and decided I'm going to buy it. Part of it is just because it's mass effect but I can feel the value when I play it. Honestly it's hard to fuck up more than mass effect 3s ending.

People, people, this isn't a review, he says so himself. It was based on 2 (two) missions only. Even though WAB says its the "core", I disagree, it's nothing near the main story, it's just an introduction, a sort of tutorial. Once you do at least half of Eos you will start picking up on the story and once u go beyond Eos, well, things just get interesting. So stop with your bandwagon hate, the animations are fine, you won't see WOW cutscenes or close to real life realism, this is not that kind of game. The core of the game is story and combat - in that order. I've done first part of Eos and completed next planet (begins with H), now I'm back on Eos and the game looks great, 8 - 8.5 The 2 or 3 glitches that I saw just add up to the hilarity. Nothing wrong with voice-overs either, they don't cry or yell, if that's what was expected, they are professionals after all not a bunch of rookie soldiers.

Good review Mack, the game feels like a pre-alpha. Shame really, you'd think they'd have learned after Mass Effect 3 and for what they are charging. Seems like some AAA developers think they can slap any price tag on a sack of cold shit then deserve a 10/10. Sad thing is the fan boys will jump on this, and defend the game like a White Knight who's been friendzoned. I dunno whats worse, them or the bought reviewers... Sad state of gaming these days.
