@mrbobajango74825 жыл бұрын
There is some truth to that statement but it's more enjoyment than it just 'getting good' due to the gear and equipment upgrades which was surprisingly not covered in this rushed review.
@lanceke5 жыл бұрын
@@mrbobajango7482 Some games have slow starts, but they should keep you entertained still before it gets to the "great parts". It doesn't look like Death stranding has enough interesting stuff going on to keep you hooked for ~15 hours before branching out with more interesting gear. Other people just have more patience I imagine. When your feeling after 4 hours is "I've seen it all" even if that's not the case, then the game failed for you.
@mrbobajango74825 жыл бұрын
@@lanceke I definitely appreciate the perspective you have on the matter. I just think after playing 70 hours of DS it was hugely intentional for the experience to feel like a long journey full of ups and downs. The game really starts to pick up at unfortunately the time when most will be feeling exactly what you described. It does an awesome job of rewarding the player for the time they put in but at the same time you have to be into the experience and willing to commit time to get the most out of it. Very unusual game I have to say.
@crawlingkhaos89705 жыл бұрын
Oddly enough, the statement is actually true. Once you hit Chapter 3, the game starts dulling out more and better equipment for the player to use. Making the journey FAR less tedious than it was in it's opening hours. It's also when you can start contributing toward or solo-building roadways which cut down on the time it takes to reach your destination and can even help avoid otherwise annoying terrain such as rivers by crossing right over them. You don't know true tedium until you've lost your balance in a river and are watching all of your cargo float downstream lol. So things like roadways, bridges and the all-terrain exo are Godsends in this game. Granted, I get how people feel. Before Chapter 3, I was considering putting this game down and playing Star Wars instead. But I decided to stick with it...easily one of the best decisions i've ever made. But hey, different strokes. I wouldn't fault anyone for bowing out before Chapter 3. I'm just personally glad I made a split decision not to.

Why should I be impressed by a walking simulator with poorly implemented mechanics and pseudo-intellectual nonsensical storytelling. You would think Kojima could afford solid programmers to make decent driving and physics. How much money did he throw at Norman Reedus and all the other actors? The only reason this game is getting attention is because it was made by Kojima, WHICH IS THE PROBLEM. Sony only threw money at this game because Kojima's name would guarantee sales. And apparently I was right. I mean, he _does_ have some interesting ideas, true, but then again what he has produced so far is far away from being the revolutionary and innovative stuff he and a lot of people claim it is. And I know a lot of fans of the Metal Gear series and a great part of them admits that those games can be called the forefather of stealth games, but that the story, which is told over _five_ games plus spin-offs, is completely crap. And let's be honest, after the first two games, there was nothing really new apart from changing small stuff. Anyway, I can not take Death Stranding serious even the slightest bit after watching a Let'sPlay and actually had to watch a character in the game making you tie her up like a package, put her on your pannier like and carry her around like a package, because the outer world is "too much for her right now". I honestly don't know how anyone can still take this game or Kojima seriously after watching this.

There was no way Mack was going to give this one a pass, I knew it. The reason why he is a great reviewer, is because he's ALWAYS consistent; first and foremost, the game is needs to be fun. Now you can disagree with his way of looking at games. You can disagree with his review, but he does not sell out, he sticks to what he thinks makes a good game, and he's fucking consistent and solid. That is why I follow his channel among a few others. Understand that a reviewers' job is nothing else than to be consistent in their evaluation and perspective. That's how you build trust. All you need is 1-3 guys who are always solid but have a different angle on how they look at games and you're set. Forget YongYea, skillup and those sellout bandwagoners.

@billybob49615 жыл бұрын
I don't agree. Mack gives bias to games he likes and doesn't hammer them anywhere near as close to others for the same issues. He will finish games he likes, but doesn't give the same to ones he doesn't. That is very poor review work and makes his channel seem very unbalanced. Look at his Outer Worlds review. He should have hammered it but didn't, because he liked their game from 9 years ago and let many, many issues that he brings up in other games he hates, go unmentioned in Outer worlds. It got a free pass because of his bias. He does this a lot, he bagged Far Cry 5 for having crap A.I in an A.I driven game, a rubbish story amongst other things, yet thumbed it up. You call that consistent reviewing, I certainly don't. Mack will crap on a game before even playing it, he has a lot of pre-bias towards particular games, and he is very rarely objective, which is very poor for a professional game reviewer.

Like I've said before, Mack isn't a reviewer for the masses. He doesn't represent games and gaming like other reviewers (you know the ones who make all games sound pretty good). He reviews based on his own gaming preferences and how the game makes him feel. That's why he's a unique reviewer. I'm a lot like him when it comes to games, but I've enjoyed games that he has trashed in the past. That just means it does something different to you than it does for him. Kind of like listening to a song. Some people like it, some people don't.

I just finished the game and can't agree more with your review: Story: You can divide it into 3 chapters: introduction (2-3hours), creating a network (20-30hours), ending (under 10 hours). Introduction and ending are basically cutscene after cutscene with little bit of gameplay. Creating a network is very simple: moving from location to location, spreading the network. Each delivery feels like a side mission. When you arrive in the city, you can only see some buildings from far away, but you only get to the gate where you speak to the hologram (you never enter the actual city and meet people inside). Here and there there is some cutscene supporting the main story which usually doesn't make any sense and only makes you more confused. Cutscenes are mostly just monologs - characters are usually telling you something for 15min - something that could be said in 1min. Finally, in the end, you get some answers and some scenes from before are making sense now. But not everything, there is still a lot of unanswered questions. Also, those cringe and creepy moments, for example when characters give you like out of nowhere. Conclusion: the story has some interesting twists, but it's too long, too slow-paced, too boring with a lot of nonsense. Gameplay: It's all about moving between locations (walking and later driving). There is a little bit of stealth, close combat, and even shooting, also some constructing and planning, but at least 90% of the game you just walk or drive, therefore it's funny that walking and driving are the least polished gameplay elements in the game. Your character is tripping over the air, getting stuck a lot, driving is a joke - suspension on all vehicles doesn't work, so you get stuck on some little rocks a lot, it's also not responsive. Not to mention all those unnecessary animations: when you use q-pid there is always the same 25sec long animation, also when you encounter BTs you watch 10sec how your windmill detects them every time, also when you pick up those worms or crystals there is long slow-motion zoomed animation how you pick it up. Also, when you enter a car, there is only animation of how you get in, but your cargo is teleported, which is most noticeable when you transport people and they just teleport from your back to the seat, while Sam is in animation. I really can't understand how it won the price of the most innovative gameplay of 2020 on steam. It's on the opposite quite old-gen feeling gameplay to me. Graphics: people say how beautiful it looks but actually it looks just average. In cutscenes, yes, it's beautiful (at prerendered 60fps), but in actual gameplay I've seen much better-looking games than this. But there are some beautiful vistas and it runs very smoothly. So I wouldn't recommend anyone to play this, maybe only watch cutscenes and dialogs with main characters as a movie.
