Really enjoyed this piece. It illustrates that the issue isn't the criticism, but rather the vitriol and assumption. Rainbow Six Siege was my favorite game of 2015, and it received similarly vapid discussion prior to release regarding its lack of a campaign mode, full price tag, and downgraded graphics. Individual aspects are being used to judge a game as a whole which is asinine. When someone says that a game is awesome because of one specific aspect or minor item, it's meant to be ironic, but when flipped, it's meant to be serious. I know people who aren't going to try Andromeda because of the reaction surrounding. Not the game itself, just the reaction. It's encouraging people to take sides rather than come to their own conclusions or wait until they have a more solid foundation for their critiques.

Exactly, the story fails to set any narrative hook and then proceeds to try and build on that lack of foundation. I cannot empathize with these idiot characters even despite their idiocy if I'm not invested in their struggle.
@HorusHeresy19827 жыл бұрын
In what way is it childish? It's a colonization effort with a mystery surrounded by a "You are the destined hero" story. That's every story including the original mass effect series. I found the narrative hook to be who are the Kett and why are they after the Remnant technology? Who built the Remnant technology and what for. Ironically this was the exact same hook that got me into the first ME game. Who are the Protheans and what happened to them? Why build the mass effect relays? The foundation that I've played so far seems to line up pretty exactly with our understanding of Prothean technology in the first prior to the Reapers explaining it's all their technology in 3.

HorusHeresy1982 Bullshit. I only played the 10 hour Trial but I was turned off by the protagonist as soon as they killed a much more interesting and better written character. Namely, Alec Ryder. You can't help but compare Scott & Sarah Ryder to Commander Shepard. The same way you might compare and contrast the 3 different protagonist of Dragon Age. And where Commander Shepard is a seasoned officer who has payed his or her dues and reached the rank of N7 and 2nd in command of the most advanced warship in the entire Alliance fleet off of pure merit. Ryder being moved up in station off of nothing more than lame ass nepotism, left much to be desired. It would have been cool at that moment had we taken control of Alec Ryder and been given the choice to save your child or yourself. Cause I'd much rather play as a grown as man than some Justin Bieber looking 21-year-old motherfucker!😠! That shit would have been dope. Like in 28 Weeks Later when the husband abandoned his wife to save himself. Alec was more experienced, accomplished and useful to humanity than his punk ass kid. But he goes and gets all in his feelings and biology and saves his child at the expense of humanity. Meh! 😝

Dude the standard for this game was no where near high as you think and those animation glitch do take away considerable enjoyment from the game because it will only destroy whatever story immersion the player has with the game. And the selling point for mass effect has always been primarily the story. The combat of mass effect has always been more sup par compare to other types of shooters of similar genre such as titan fall, Overwatch, Borderlands, Destiny because of how shallow the power system + gunplay is in this game, which is ironically more shallow than the previous games. Other design aspects also took a big hit, therefore the negative reviews/hate for this game is justified and expected from long term mass effect fans.

I think it's time to move to different ips, it seems clear to me that with both Dragon Age and Mass Effect and why not Stars Wars that Bioware is clearly trying to do something with these games but all sorts of different problems are coming up with a very fragile community that don't take much to set them off I frankly am disappointed in Andromeda I think it's so water down and bland in comparison to the trilogy and that kind of thinking is why it's difficult to give this game and Bioware any sort of kindness. This game was going for lighthearted tone and it backfires for me as it's difficult to give a Shit about anything when the game barely has a serious tone, good writing, and significant issues beyond just the facial animations that really can't be fixed. it would do this new Bioware some good to just move on to New original games. Like would the hate for Andromeda really be this bad if it didn't have the mass effect name on it?

I've played about 14-15ish hours so far and I'm loving it! Combat is diverse, flowing, and fun. I've delved into some of the character's backstories and they are pretty intriguing. Liam is the only character I do not like thus far, but I haven't progressed far enough into the game to truly see his character. The story is serviceable from what I've seen. I haven't done too many of the story missions, but what I've seen interests me. The only thing I'm worried about is how it's a little too parallel to ME1. There's a ancient alien civilization who you're trying to understand, you have to activate structures of said civilization, etc. I hope it branches off more from that. The animations aren't nearly as bad as people say they are. Yeah there's a few of them here and there (Addison's are ALL terrible tbh), but it isn't a buggy mess people say it is. I have not encountered any glaring technical issues that people are complaining about. The game isn't nearly as bad as a whole as people say it is.

I had played ME 1 coming from a shooter games fan circle (CS, CoD, Crysis, you name it) so, as anyone can imagine, at first, it was a big letdown. Aftet many hours, whithout even looking at the RPG elements of the game, I was frustrated because that damn first geth prime I encountered was killing me in an instant. Coming from a hardcore shooter genre, I found the shooting mechanics unresponsive, clunky, a pain in the ass most of the time. For me, back then, the core element of the game was broken. But my frustration made me look deeper into the game mechanics, discover what was really under the hood, just to find out I was an idiot. A nitpicky stupid gamer who thougt the shooting was "the core" of the game when, in reality, it was the game itself, as a whole, with the story, the RPG, the entire galaxy with it's secrets just waiting for me to discover them. A whole f...ing galaxy, which, over the years an countles hours of gaming trew right into my face the most overwhelming and memorable story ever told in a videogame. For me, the Mass Effect trilogy is the "Star Wars Saga" of videogaming, despite the third act ending, despite the glitches, despite the issues of the shooting mechanics, despite everything. And that is for just one reason, an one reason only: I saw, for the first time, a game as a whole. Criticising and blaming just some bits you find ugly or hillarious means just to be nitpicky and, in my opinion, plain right stupid. If I was to do that, a few years ago, frustrated by the shooting mechanics of ME 1, today I would have missed the greatest adventure I've ever had in a video game. So, with that in mind, I don't give a f...k about "facial animation", some "boring" bits from few side missions and everything else some bored people in need of attention put on the internet. I'm gonna buy Andromeda an play it, cause I know that somewhere, under it's hood, I'll find my adventure. For Christ sake, it's over 80-90 hours long. You have to be an idiot to think that it's not worth it, just because some 10 minutes of memes repeted over and over on the internet by some douchbags...

The interesting thing about the Mass Effect franchise is that it never hit its peak. Mass Effect suffered from poor gameplay, but set up a great universe and had a really good story (it also had one of the best villain intros ever with Sovereign). Mass Effect 2 improved gameplay and characters, but stripped away a lot of the exploration and RPG elements and had a lesser story. And Mass Effect 3... well, that game is a garbage fire.

Personally, I think that when a game (or book or movie or etc.) chooses to use a title indicative of a series in it's name, that disqualifies it from being looked at standalone. When a work of media enjoys the free publicity and brand loyalty that a namesake like "Mass Effect" or "Final Fantasy" or "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones" generates it's only fair to hold that work of media to the same standards you hold that namesake to (which is usually higher than normal). If the game was just called "Andromeda" and was a completely new IP made by Bioware, it wouldn't be creating NEARLY as much of a shitstorm as it is now. In fact, it's actually a pretty decent game all things considered and I'd be willing to bet a lot of fans would be giving it a fair chance despite being developed and produced by EA and Bioware. But because it's a continuation of the Mass Effect brand, it needs to be looked at and judged by the standards you judge the other Mass Effect games rather than on it's own. When you do that, Andromeda does NOT measure up to the other Mass Effect games in many areas (the notable exception being the combat, which I find much better) and ultimately runs the real risk of becoming the weakest link in the franchise to date. In the end, yes, many gamers are still sour over how ME3 ended. And yes, many gamers still carry a grudge against Bioware and EA for that. But to try and explain away some amount of legitimate criticism by essentially saying "They're still butthurt over ME3 and Andromeda never had a chance anyway" is irresponsible. If Bioware took even just a few more months to fix some of the very real flaws with Andromeda, a lot of the current naysayers would have welcomed it with open arms.
@Callsigngrizzly7 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem for ME:A is the fact that it has to compare to its older brothers within the OG trilogy. That's the issue. If this game released without those games to compare to, it would still be a bit of a laugh with all the issues but it wouldn't be hated. But when you see the writing that went into the first three games, the characters that you fell in love with, the world that they built, and then see how this game just doesn't live up to the very standards that Bioware set themselves then the hate makes more sense. Mass Effect 1 had facial animations that were on par if not better than this game and it came out a decade ago. In a game that RELIES on HOURS of conversation, this is nearly a deal breaker because it's hard to get lost in a world that is trying it's damnedest to kick you out ever other minute. The writing is sloppy and poorly delivered in many cases, making those very conversations this game is known for to be dead on arrival often enough to be a problem. The Combat is greatly improved, that is definitely a good thing. The overall visuals of the scenery and general gameplay in the action sections is on par if not better than its older brothers depending on what you're looking at specifically. That's good. But when half of this game (and franchise as a whole) is devoted to those characters, the story, the dialogue, and its not only poorly written but poorly performed as well when compared to the OG trilogy (which ended 5 years ago) then the vitriol to this game makes sense. This isn't "getting to hyped" for a game and being disappointed, it's just not living up the expectations that the previous games set for themselves. In a vacuum these issues wouldn't be pronounced as much. But when it's also releasing next to Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda Breath of the Wild, Nier Automata etc, it shows like a sore thumb. Bioware dropped the ball on this, there is no way around that. And that's not because the fans had unreachable expectations, but because Bioware didn't meet the expectations set by the previous games and ME:A's peers.

Well said. Having completed the game myself, I can say with all honesty that I enjoyed it, but I didn't have the same, deep connection with it as even the first Mass Effect, much less the whole trilogy. The technical issues, campy writing and animation were easy to set at the back of my mind as I enjoyed the combat, exploration, and interactions with my squad mates and crew. I genuinely felt more frustrated with The Witcher 2 and Just Cause 2 (neither of which I played more than 3 hours) than this game, which took about 72+ hours for me to reach the endgame. More than anything, the whole experience has taught me to severely temper my expectations in the future.

The word "should" doesn't work on the internet. I personally don't care about MEA so I'm not on any side of the argument. Customization - I'll be frank and say that this was a step back in every damn way possible for customization in a RPG. While my character does look good wonky facial animations and all, they will never look apart from the preset. As I cannot change eyes, eyebrow style, or nose style. So that's a damper on things. But I managed with their basic setup to make a character I like. Dialogue and Writing - Is hit n miss, but some of the dialogue people were complaining about is simply they didn't quite catch the tone of the characters. Addison a passive aggressive bitch for one. Animation - I managed to make a character face that works with the wonky animation, tbh it's not as bad as people are putting it out there. In the two day experience I have had with the game I haven't hit any of the problems people have talked about. Beside a few minor twitches here and there. Characters - I don't know what the hell people are talking about. But I am enjoying the new characters. I think the only character who I haven't liked from introduction is Cora. But Liam actually has dialogue that makes me outright laugh. Vetra is cool and interesting. Peebee is a joy. And Drak is cool, but much older. So far all the characters have made me want to go out and get to know more about them. Exploration and Combat - Is a fucking joy. I crave going out exploring new worlds and doing the quest. Uncovering the story and the combat is so much fun. Just swooshing around with my biotic powers. Swoosh. This is how I wanted Shepard to move in general. Ryders - My roommate is playing MEA with me as well. And I say I enjoy both Ryders. It's like no one understands that the Ryders are not hardened soldiers like Shepard. They are young. With some evidence to suggest the family is filled with andrenaline seeking explorative junkies. Overall Plot - I'm actually finding it interesting. A mystery to solve. Question to ask. Who are the Kett? Why do the Remnants exist? Etc. To me that's indicator of a good plot. Something that makes you start questioning the story. Something that makes you want to carry on the story. And something that makes you try and solve it. Staring and looking for clues in every thread of the plot. The Game Overall - Is hit and miss. While I do admit the facial animation sometimes can be cringy. And some of the dialogue is questionable I.e. Addison "My face is tired from all of this". Why didn't anyone write it as "My head hurts from all of this" "My thoughts are jumbled from all of this". But elsewise the main story dialogue is fine, imo. I think people are either judging MEA based on the trilogy. Or translating the tone of the game very very wrong. Since there is no big threat. No annihilation. Where the focus of the story is exploration and finding people a new world. There's a lot of hope, optimism, and fun from most of the characters. The tone and message is light hearted because the tone and plot is not quite as dark and heavy. Do I admit that I wish though sometimes when the heavy stuff hit, you would feel it more? Yes. But I understand the tone is meant to be light hearted and indicative of exploration. Not "this is war everyone's going to die so let's have heavy depressive dialogue". This is, we're just getting to know these new characters. We're just getting to know this world. And we have opened this puzzle box of threats, mystery, and something to uncover. And I think the game carries it this tone very well throughout. That doesn't make the bugs and glitches inexcusable. We ran into one bug, where my roommate didn't like one of her characters she customized. So she went to go remake the character. Using the same name. The game got confused and would not let her progress because it kept thinking she was the old character of the same name and not a new character. That's game breaking. The character customization is also inexcusable. Especially when we were misled. I loved DAI's CC it was thorough. Sure the hair options were atrocious. But it was a good CC on the frostbite engine. And Arec Flynn said they were going to keep that CC, but they never did. We should not be having CC from all the way back in 2008. Because this CC is exactly like the one from Fallout 3. I get it they wanted daddy Ryder to look like us. Tbh, I at least wouldn't have complained if daddy Ryder looked like daddy Ryder from the trailers. And didn't share familial features with my Ryder as long as I got what I wanted my Ryder to look like exactly. Eitherway, I'm enjoying the game and it's nowhere near as bad as people are making it out to be. It's no 10 out of 10 gaming experience. A good 7. But I can enjoy 7.

I was more than willing to give Bioware a second chance after the horrible ending to ME3. But you have to understand that this was supposed to be just that. A second chance. They had this game under development since releasing ME3 and while I know some of the developers left and I know they changed game engines. If still does not excuse them from releasing a half baked, poorly written boring game. This is a Triple A title with a huge budget at a 60+ price. I feel that BioWare has lost some of their mojo ever since ME2 and Dragon Age:Origins. ME3 was a garbage fire, a game that ignored it's key themes, and aside from a few genuinely moving moments, was plagued with poor writing and lazy level design. DA:I was grind; you just kept going from one rip in the fade after the next to get enough points to move the story along... it was boring. And while most of the characters were pretty good, it wasn't enough to save it from a lackluster story, and poor villain.

Rico Goudt, ME2 has far better character development... and that's the problem. There is nothing wrong with good characters, but they jammed way too many into the game. Half the missions in the game were either recruitment missions, or loyalty missions. That's overkill. And as you say, the story isn't all that great, it also introduces the stupid Reaper baby. It isn't helped that they also stripped away a good chunk of the RPG elements.

The only 2 comments about Andromeda i've seen are: - This game is huge and is focused on exploration and the combat is smooth. - Animations without motion capture. You're right, I do hate Bioware now and I hope they fail at everything they do until they're just another dead studio in the EA graveyard, which is exactly what will happen because no one with any talent wants to work in an EA sweatshop to be vilified for their moronic bosses decisions. I hope every shareholder and executive chokes to death on that Q2 2012 money they made by rushing ME3 out door. They bought an IP that could have been gaming's Star Wars and flogged it to death before it could reach its potential and I'll never forgive them for it. They bought the spiritual successor to Baldurs Gate and turned it into "press x to win in the same hallway" a failed pilot for the CW. EA's modus operandi is to buy out beloved PC developers and run their IP into the ground with exploitative shovelware that they've broadened so much that it's too thin to satisfy anyone but the person whose time has no value.

Ha, you don't understand the industry, most of the employees get laid off anyway after the game ships at any developer, so they're all well aware of the volatility of their position and bounce around the industry all the time. The people I want to lose their jobs are the ones that greenlight garbage, like movie execs, they don't know shit about making art and just rubber stamp whatever has the most buzzwords and brand cachet to make a quick buck for the investors. Are you buying games just so people have jobs? EA will just cut the developer down to one person since you'll buy anything and the investors will laugh at you on their piles of money. Be a better consumer, have some self respect, stop buying garbage.

I've been watching a good friend live stream it for me since the moment he finished installing int. It's fucking good! Only issue, and minor unless you're a gnit pick is the facial animations and the creepy eyes - all of which can be fixed with patches and updates. I love the music. Story so far is really good. Game play is really neat (keep in mind also...I've not had a game console since ps2...). Multiplayer is intense but fun and feels rewarding when your team completes their missions. Everyone I know who's played so far LOVES the game despite some minor issues.

I certainly haven't got high expectations for Andromeda and the reason for that is as much to do with the conclusion to Mass Effect 3 but also and perhaps more importantly, I am starting to find it difficult to really get enthusiastic about upcoming games, some of the triple A games currently out on this generation HAVE simple been OK, and from personal experience with Maffia 3, some have been pretty crap, the really really top tier games that truly deliver are getting few and far between but again that is just my generalized opinion, I'm not ruling out Andromeda at all but rather I shall wait a bit then see if it is worth a look

Thank you for saying this. I've actually had emotional breakdowns through out the days when Andromeda was released and turned out to be sub par. I guess it's because of my grudge against Smudboy and other BioHaters when they said to Boycott Andromeda for the most ludicrous reasons of Kaidan's Bisexuality in ME3, BioWare's diversity policy ultimately triggering some people, and their hatred for Mac Walters and holdover resentment from ME3. I was thinking when the game was released and it received great reviews, I could say "Told you so," to the haters who think negativity is the only thing that makes the world go round. But when the reviews cam in and it was really not that great, I felt the joke was on me and I had emotional breakdowns because I was afraid if this could be BioWare would become EA's next victim and why will never get to see anymore Turians and alien sex ever again. God it's silly that I let this get to me too much. I don't know when BioWare can drag itself out of the Dirt. Perhaps they can make a couple of new IPs so the new team can gain more experience and make a new identity. Or hell, perhaps somewhere down the line they can do a remake of the trilogy and improve the ending even further. Either add Suicide mission mechanics to the battle and extend the Epilogue to implement more of your choices to the ending. Or they could even retcon the entire premise of the Reapers and say Leviathan doesn't exist and we never know what they're here for. (I'm not a fan of the last one because I found my own epilogue story of Shepard dealing with his choice that builds on the threads presented in ME3 and I wanted the know the Reaper's purpose because one of their aspects, they're mysterious nature, was one of their strengths and when you discover their origins and their purpose, their godhood is taken away and thus they can be defeated.) I'm okay with the current ending but if BioWare chooses to do that to redeem themselves in the eyes of everyone else, I'd be okay with having my epilogue story that I put my heart and soul into be destroyed for the greater good.

I am really enjoying Mass Effect Andromeda. I like the story so far. The gameplay is pretty solid and dispite the animation issue the graphics are pretty decent. I work 50 hours a week and I have set aside time from my busy schedule to play everyday. I have encountered a few bugs but nothing as annoying as Mass Effect 2's audio lag bug. I'm pretty caught up in building a new home for the species of The Milky Way. I'm pretty much loving it.

I'm 12 hours in and besides the odd face i smiled at I've had no issues with this game. It's been a good start even though everyone bitched how slow it was and yeah theres some amusing animations but it's not every fucking scene. You'll see maybe 1 every 3-4 hours. I expected a lot worse and considered actually asking for a refund for it before it launched but you know what? I decided fuck it, If I was going to dislike the game I'd dislike it for my own reasons and so far I've had no reason to find it anything other than a decent start. Maybe it will come to nothing and decent is the best it will get but the sheer amount of shit that people have tossed at this shocked me when I played it. It's not some ultimate Galaxy saving quest. It's a colonization effort with a mystery. Maybe the story is just that but it's not like it's some of the original DLC or 3.

great video, delighted someone has posted a video promoting objective thinking and not just jumping on the hate train. this game isn't perfect but it doesn't deserve the hate it's getting, I played it through and thoroughly enjoyed it. it had big shoes to fill following the original trilogy, a damn hard act to follow but judging the game purely on its own merits it's far from bad, I would go as far to say it's pretty good. rather than blow the games shortcomings out of proportion to the point the devs shelf the franchise indefinitely, I wish people would give this game a fair chance. not perfect but far from bad 8/10.

I honestly wasn't expecting much from Mass Effect: Andromeda after how much I disliked Dragon Age: Inquisition. I've usually enjoyed but never been a huge fan of their games with one or two exceptions but then along comes Andromeda. I've got about 20 hours in the full game now and it's somehow ended being really enjoyable, may even end up as my favorite in the series. Some minor bugs and rare wonky facial animation has barely dented my enjoyment of its unique story and well crafted combat. Wile I would never expect there to not be people for whom the flaws outweigh its strengths some reviews sound as though the reviewer played an entirely different game. I'm looking forward to seeing the general consensus on the game in the long term but many of the initial reactions have been wildly contradictory.
@Palmieres7 жыл бұрын
If I could upvote more than once I would. I've always felt a little resentful of the fan community for this franchise because a good portion of them (I should say "us") are, bluntly saying it, bad fans. You compare the ME fans to the Dragon Age community and they're light-years away from each other in terms of love and loyalty for their favorite game. The second Dragon Age game was very divisive, with many fans coming out slightly disappointed by what they assumed would be a continuation of an amazing experience as the one you got from Origins. The truth was DA2 just wasn't as good, but the fans didn't give up on it, nor did they machinegun Bioware with insults. They used the internet, art, fanfic and discussions to express their opinions in funny ways that weren't cruel, but meant to tell the developers they needed to fix what wasn't working. When the 3rd game came out, although not perfect, it adressed many of the complaints and kept rewarding the fans with more amazing content and juicy story development with the DLC. So DA Inquisition was improved over DA2 with love from people who wanted to see better results. Perhaps because I felt no hate for the ending of ME3, just sorrow for knowing the journey was over, I never felt the desire to hop in the hate bandwagon for Andromeda. Or maybe I'm just not as big an asshole. The result of this avalanche of anger is in plain sight, with Bioware simply giving up on Andromeda and letting it die. And "fans" killed it. It's on them. Good job, dipshits.

I got ME:A, I've only been able to play for like 4 hours but what I have played is fun and feels like Mass Effect. Even from the beginning it doesn't feel 'epic' like ME1-3 but then again I don't think that was the intent. Being on the first planet and exploring plus trying to make it habitable is all fun. I agree with the comparison that it feels a bit like Dragon Age Inquisition, but I do think it's an improvement over that game. I haven't encountered any "game breaking" bugs but some animations do feel stiff... honestly I don't notice it much though because all Bioware games feel a bit stiff in my opinion. What I can say about the game (even with so few hours under my belt): It's fun. Would I recommend it? Sure, but only if you're interested in Mass Effect or like the idea of being a gun blazing space colonist. If that even sounds interesting then you'll like it on some level.

I overall agree with this piece, it's fair in its statements and observations. With that being said, I have never experienced so many bugs and glitches with any game, as I have with ME:A. It's been under development for half a decade and still they manage to not notice things such as npc's whos feet sink into the floors of the game, or npc's who just plainly walk into and through walls, and that's just to name a few. Oversights like these seems very sloppy to me. I can't see how they in any way can justify not having resolved such issues prior to launch, or with the day 1 update. I still enjoy playing the game very much, but these bugs/glitches they really do deminish the overall experience of the game.

Yes, there is no question, objectively the game is rough and could have used more time to smooth them out. Andromeda was made by a group that has never made a game, let alone one as big as this. Why does BioWare get savaged? Because it treats its paying customers like shit and tries to blame its own shortcomings on its players. Christina Norman's comments about players "pretending to be game producers" were the height of arrogance. The fact that the store -- where you buy vital equipment and upgrades -- has been completely random since ME3 Multiplayer and can give you multiple useless items repeatedly is just a big "fuck you" to the players, as are the massive loading times, the eternity it takes to reload a single-shot weapon, the retention of insta-grabs, and the completely untested menu interface, which anybody who's played the game for five minutes could have told you was unacceptable. Surprise -- the pea shooters they call "weapons" put players in a foul mood because video games are supposed to be fun; they're not supposed to be about cowering behind a piece of metal for three minutes straight waiting for an ultra-long enemy shield bar to go down one millimetre at a time. So, save your "concern" for a company that deserves it. If BioTurd won't test its products, preferring instead to let people pay for an inviable product and do their testing work for them, then it deserves to be savaged.

Bioware has contempt for the fans. The fans would give contempt back... but Bioware no longer deserves even that. DAI was released as a beta for ps3 and xbox 360... and before it was patched to a full release... they ended support. Then they censored anyone who made constructive comments about how that damages fans trust of Bioware. They're a dead studio, they just don't know it yet.

To me it has to do again with budget restraints and timing. Also they switch engine to the Frostbite which to me is a bad choice the people at Bioware do best on Unreal engine. Having such a short time to learn a new system and on top of that most of the staff moved on. Sorry but after the ending of Mass effect 3 any game with "that" title to me paints a huge warning sign. Some decent points raised, but I take umbrage at the "There are actual people behind this game, so be respectful" line of reasoning. One, there are people behind every game. Two, no one is entitled to respect - respect is earned over time. (And as you correctly point out, lost very easily.)

I have the game and enjoy it but the problems with NPCs are inexcusable. Here is the list: 1. Eyes are too big and look even cartonish 2. Asari don't look different from previous games - in a bad way, they are not ugly but they look weird 3. Facial animations 4. Deliberately ugly characters - even npcs you can't have a conversation with are unrealistically ugly 5. Hair colors which look off. Some are too bright and some colors just look unnatural and don't fit making the game look more cartoonish There are some bugs I encountered but with most of them I'm confident that there will be patches for them. However it is very unlikely that all the other things I listed will never be patched.

It's not just the ending of three, it's not the racist comments from their developers. It's everything. A chance here is 60$ or more. There were bugs in previous ME games, and bioware games in general yes. But the story telling wasn't as flawed. They've changed the formula. Some are ok with that. I am not. I liked the paragon / renegade. But ultimately... the reason I will not buy this game is because Bioware or EA or both are quite plainly taking their fanbase for fools, (in their minds knowing) that they'll mindlessly throw money at their products. It's evident in everything from the dev posts to how the ME 3 ending was handled. Fool me once shame on you.... You get the idea. Bioware lost their credibillity to their fanbase. I think they deserve everything they get. Buy it if you want to. Enjoy it. But I'm out. And have been.

While I agree that the toxicity level and sheer amount of mean-spiritedness has become tedious I will point out though that to your point that there are people behind the game, while I personally respect all of the new-blood Montreal devs and MET fans that are working at BioWare on this, when I see a shot of Mac Walters I want to punch my table. That guy was always in the wrong place during the end of ME2's development and all of Mass Effect 3 and now he's the guy who has to oversee it all. Technical glitches don't deserve the amount of ridicule it gets because a lot of these issues are only as bad as they were in ME1 - a game many love, although the faces are really awful... but the issues of MEA go on a deeper level (I've played 20 hours of it) and it just reeks of that Mac Walters guy and trust me, I know what I'm talking about - it's not just based on the bad ending of 3. There were more issues all throughout that game and most of what 3 did right was actually done by the other developers and writers including Casey Hudson who almost got all the blame when it was actually Mac Walters's execution and lack of good penmanship that ultimately ruined it. Andromeda has a lot of good things but when it comes to the story you can feel how Mac Walters just has no clue how to reel in a game narrative that has a throughline. It's his job as Creative Director of Andromeda to provide feedback to the writer's, give them a vision to follow and thereby create a cohesive experience for the game across all boards... this is where it is already failing more than ever for the series and even more than DA:I. I've read his comics and seen his interviews; the guy is just a hack who steals his colleagues' ideas and take credit for them, plain and simple. He's a complete schmock and I hate the ridicule MEA gets but if it were all directed at Mac I'd simply say he deserved it. ME3's fiasco was his cue to leave or at least demote, but somehow he made it to being above the role he had previously and he's still a big fat liar, he's lazy and incompetent... and worst of all either he doesn't know it or he's full well aware but too stubborn to admit his shortcomings. He's the Damon Lindelof of gaming. He paved his own road to hell and now the entire BioWare teams must suffer from his ill-decided leadership position.

I bought this game for the PC a few days ago and have 20 hours into it. Have to say that almost all the faces in this game are terrible, in both design and the way they move and the menu system is clunky and unpolished (Codex isn't voiced, either....) Conversations and Quests, thus far, have been on the predictable side and the faces ("my face is tired") make it very hard to get immersed into the game's dialog (wish all the NPC would wear helmets planet side and not just my own party with the helmets always on option, activated.) Everything else in the game is okay from what I've played. The biggest improvements are the outdoor environments and the combat system. The game's plot does have enough mystery to keep me playing it. And the non battle game play does mesh well with the storyline.

@redwolf46113 жыл бұрын
well you asked for it. You're over stating the fanbase response. The ending to mass effect 3 was literally the ONLY thing anyone had negative opinions about in regards to it and that was due to bioware putting so much amazing effort into the games only to give an ending on the 3rd game that built up well climatically then finished up feeling really generic and a bit half arsed, simply changing the color hue and adding miniscule cinematic changes, though having a teaser of shepherd possibly surviving amongst the rubble was good enough closure for that. That's not the dev teams fault and no ones criticizing them but rather the company as it seemed the team simply ran out of time. as for andromeda it deserved everything it got because someone rushed the team in a cash grab attempt to milk a franchise who's story many felt had already been complete. Thus releasing a game that was buggy with poor character models and far less of the depth that made the previous 3 so popular as well as a story that understandably couldn't top nor match the original story arch. So again it came off very generic simply swapping Protheans with Jardaans for the advanced mystery species and their remnant ruins/ tech. Something which made the already massacred attempt seem even more like a rehash instead of being original. Mass Effect honestly just didn't need a sequel after the first 3 and there really wasn't any room story wise to make one. But as EA has proven several times you can polish a turd and people will praise it's beauty.

It all depends on bioware as well.. Other than all the technical and story downgrade there is just too much agenda in modern games and movies. And Andromeda is no exception. It is ok, animations are better if you create your character but feel to much like DA Inquisition and i didn't like the mmo grind of that game. Really slow pace and grindy for no real goal. I don't mind the grind but if it gets you good loot, which i have not yet seen, might be better when you get further in the game. Story is ok, not really taking my interest and the dialogs are, let's say lacking. I will admit that since mass effect 2 released i have been on a bit on a bioware hate bandwagon despite how bitter I feel acknowledging that since I don't like seeing people's work fail even with the hundreds of hours of man power that goes into a product but bioware's actions since me2 and especially me3 has just reinforced the cynicism that I have developed for them, I doubt I'll ever play Andromeda especially from all the footage ive seen and despite all the cynicism ive mustered over the years I can agree that the overly negative response has over shadowed the legit criticism of the game. hopefully the voices of reason will break through when people find a new victim to bully.

Mass Effect Andromeda suffered because Bioware has been going progressive lately adding Diversity into the cast and romances. DAI already pissed off peope due to having a transgender to a game. Also Manveer Heir worked on the game and he was saying a lot controversial things that losses off a lot of people to the point that they don't want to buy Andromeda unless Manveer was fired. But as you said, the ending to ME3 really is the biggest reason. People are salty about a powerful franchise that provides escapism to have an ending that basically ruined all of the things they have done with the game. The extended cut didn't help either. Just me thinking about the atrocious ending makes my stomach turn. People are still hurt and that's the real reason Andromeda was doomed from the beginning.

Not my politics. The truth. Believe it or not that was one of the reasons why this game got a lot of unnecessary shit

Great disappointment. Second part was good, the third even better. Meanwhile, Andromeda is simply boring, it is very difficult to withstand it for more than 20 minutes.

Mass effect andromeda is honestly an abomination. The 3 mass effects were way better than andromeda.

ehh lay off the pills will ya? go check HZD for a example, no hilariously lousy coding there with awful glitches. The bugs and glitches alone makes one not want to buy this game at full price. In other words, it is just poor craftmanship were looking at.

You say that there are many legitimate criticisms of the game, and that you agree with most of them, but then you dismiss those criticisms for the notion that people are over-reacting to the faults of Andromeda. I don't agree with that at all. The weak script writing in this game alone deserves to be bashed, for the most part the facial animation, graphical bugs and voice acting are just the cherry on top. When you screw up the script writing you break immersion for the player which ruins the entire experience. The script is the crux of an RPG like this. The biggest flaw is that the characters just don't make sense in this setting. Many are on this mission without any prior training. It's as if they're all cadets (and strangers no less) while the one veteran character is removed early on. If there's one thing I've learnt in my experience with games, shows and anime it's that people can't stand characters who have been made to be lacking in order to make the plot make sense. The amount of (largely female) characters who have gotten a lot of hate for being weak plot devices (Sakura from the younger Naruto series is a good example) is overwhelming. Meanwhile the most successful ones include characters who don't just have depth but also aren't made to be less than they should be for the sake of progression (HxH, Code Geass, Death Note). The characters in the original ME trilogy didn't use the crutch of being newbies in order to make the plot work. They were all hardened soldiers and specialists in their own field which is what those games did right and where this game falls flat in my opinion.

i5m1thy, I said that I agree with alot of the criticisms but that they are ALL people are focusing on at the expense of the good things. Have you played the game? I've been playing and I have not got the sense that the characters are weak and untrained. As far as I know they all have trained for this, it's just that the Pathfinder is the tip of the spear. As far as the characters themselves they are fine, but I'm waiting to fully assess them before making a judgement. Honestly think all the claims of weak writing are overblown. While there is obviously the odd line here and there, for the most part it's par for the course. Also, people act like the ME trilogy was some pinnacle of writing. While there is no question that the series was at it's best under Drew Kapyshyn, it certainly had it's fair share of corny or hamfisted moments, which is FINE. I love the original ME, but I think people look at it through rose tinted glasses. It is an extremely flawed game, and while the plot is good (best of the series), much of the character writing is bland. The universe and mythology, along with the RPG elements, made that game.

I've played ME:A for over 50 hours and while I don't really like numerical scores I can say there has never been a more 6/10 game. This game focuses too much on all the wrong places. The gameplay is fluid and very fun and clearly that's where the most effort went to and that's arguably what every developer should focus on first, however this should not be the case for a Mass Effect game. Mass Effect is story, Mass Effect is, characters, Mass Effect is not gameplay. The writing and story of this game are painfully average, even very bad at times. The story is so uninteresting you soemetimes forget why you do certain things. But the worst offender is the characters, the crew of Mass Effect: Andromeda is the worst cast of characters I've ever seen in any BioWare title ever. This game is like Mass Effect: Opposite Day Version. Enjoy it for what it is, but it doesn't even feel like Mass Effect. It has lost it's "spirit"

I really dont understand how people are saying the story is so poorly written, like you go to a new galaxy in hopes of finding a new home and you encounter new shit, discover new planets, help people find a new home, like that makes the nerd tick in me man!! everyone is just so butthurt an in their feeling about every freaking thing! like I get if you just dont like the game opinions are fine but, andromeda is dope! its a fresh take on an overall awesome game series an people are gonna miss out just because of they suck everyone elses butt and complain like they can develop a game.

The community is just being an arse saying the game sucks because of this 1% of it that's flawed. Its just like they did with ME3! It was one of my favorite games of the trilogy, where all of my decisions, made through out ME1 and 2 came together, the story was brilliant, the music was deep, the animations were good, but people hate it because of its ending... that 1% of the game. Alright ill admit, I hated it for a time too, but it doesn't make the entire game bad. For me it always was about the journey, maybe those ''boring'' side missions were to take your mind off of the main plot for a while, do something less engaging while you reflect on the decisions you've made, and what's to come next?

idk about you, but I didn't miss any of the new ME2 squadmates, Jacob was always dull, Miranda always struck me as such an up stuck bitch, Jack was a pain, and Samara way just... too perfect. The only ones I liked was Thane, but he died in ME3 in the saddest and most brilliant of ways at the same time, and Mordin. I never liked legion or trusted him because of the fact that, as Tali tells you in ME1, ''Synthetics have no use for organics, none! Why do you think they stayed behind the veil and killed everyone who tried to make contact with them?''. Grunt was dull in ME2, but I felt real happy to see him in his ME3 mission, didn't bother me that he didn't become a team mate. Zaeed is also a pain, and ugly as fuck, but I liked Kasumi, not enough to make me miss her as a team mate either. What about auto dialogue? In previous games you always got seemingly 3 choices of what to say, most of the time, the 2 upper choices had the exact response, or extremely similar, with the bottom one you being a dick, so I don't mind. Also, I never ran in to any bugs or glitches in ME3 ever... only in ME1 and 2. Not counting multiplayer...

considering that BioWare is now going down the sjw road they should be looked at with High criticism and the fact that they hired a racist a feminist and a few others who have hatred towards certain demographics or people maybe their products should fail. maybe that will get the executives actually pay attention to what's going on. seriously before all the sjws took over at BioWare we had quality content that came from them they represented quality not what they called diversity even though there was diversity in their games already.
