I agree. My favourite will always be the first film. But I actually prefer A3 to Aliens.

I actually had the opposite problem of the one you mentioned in the beginning. I actually hate slasher movies and it's why I couldn't get into horror for a long time. The supernatural ones are the ones that got me into them. I don't find slasher movies scary, to me those are the over the top ridiculous ones usually. Until I was in my 20s the only horror I liked was(and still is) Alfred Hitchcock.

The thumbnail for this video: "In defense of Alien3"🤦‍♂️ People making excuses for alien 3 is crazy. Now that's love right there. Whenever the main character can't even explain the plot or how they became infected by the alien and they represent the film writer which is where things like exposition generally comes from, that is evidence that the movie wants you to suspend disbelief and just enjoy the ride and the story itself wasn't as well thought out as many of the movie's fans give it credit for being. I just watched the special edition of alien 3, Charles Dutton's character Dillon asks Ripley the question the audience have been asking since the movie came out. He represents us. He asks Ripley how the Xenomorph could have impregnated her and put a queen embryo inside her without her even knowing or why she is only knowing this now. Her response, representing the writers, she simply answers by saying she doesn't know. She simply says it must have impregnated her in cryosleep🤷 Even the lead character and actress who coproduced the movie by the way, couldn't give a detailed explanation of how this movie comes together or why it exists. Ripley for me is one of the best hero movie characters ever written or portrayed on film and I think the character deserved better. She deserved a better arc. I look at the Alien trilogy and think it is how Starwars would have been if Empire was the last movie in that trilogy. Empire is the second in the trilogy for a reason. The hero loses the battle but wins the war with Return of the Jedi defeating the empire. In Alien's trilogy the hero wins the first two battles and is victorious in the first 2 movies, then in the 3rd movies she gets face fucked in her sleep, practically gets P Diddied.Literally didn't even know. She didn't know she was throat graped until the 3rd act of the movie and after the 2 people she fought so hard to save in the second movie not only do they die in the opening credits but she's forced to self delete because she's carrying her grapist's spawn inside her. Yeah! The character Ripley deserved better. Watching Aliens now, is kind of spoilt because you know the character's fate just like watching walking dead season 1 and 2 are spoiled when rewatched because you know everything Rick is doing to keep his family safe is for nothing and Dr Jenner was proven to be right. To me Ripley doesn't win by killing herself or going out on her terms. The Wayland Corp company got away with their crimes. There isn't anyone to expose them.🤷Thee end! Oh and if Alien 3 isn't enough of a piss take. Ripley's sacrifice didn't mean anything because they were still able to bring back the Xenomorph after she died and give us Alien Resurrection, the final drop of piss on Ripley's legacy and tombstone😔

hot take. i think some of the final ending in me3 need players to think who(companion) they want to keep alive and who shall sacrifice. this is critical decision for final outcome. and i really liked it...

Nope. Rewatched every Alien film a while back & this one is just too dumb still. Resurrection had better action than 3 plus this whole prison stuff was just so bad. No one every prisoner who are most dangerous are behaved well. Along with not being more secured on dozen s of guards around.

I believe the story of the Xenomorph ended after Alien 3 (extended cut), and it wasn't as much of a betrayal when compared to Prometheus and Covenant (haven't seen Romulus yet, so I don't know how much damage it will cause). At least Alien 3 didn't ruin the Xenomorph's mystery and legacy.

I personally love Alien 3. Now I would say Aliens is my favorite one and alien is another masterpiece, but Alien 3 is not the worst one and far from it. I do think the special effects are a little goofy and there somethings in these that I wished they did differently, but it’s not bad at all! I personally loved Alien 3 and still love it!

I've actually grown to appreciate Alien 3 and while I don't put it in as high of regard as the first two I do think it's a decent all-around movie though flawed no matter which cut you watch. To put it simply I like it as it's own movie with its own unique style, but I don't think it fits as well into the franchise as is established by the first two. The first two movies are sci-fi horror and a sci-fi thriller where is Alien 3 feel's more like a Gothic horror movie with some sci-fi elements. For me personally apart from the music and a few really good scenes I don't think it does anything better than the first two to warrant it being as well regarded as the first two, but I certainly don't think it's a travesty like so many people claim it to be.

Brandon, thank you for making this comprehensive and articulate celebration of alien 3. I couldn't agree more with your deduction of why it should be hailed as a unique, dramatic art house gem of a film. Like you I grew up with the original franchise fascinated by the suspense and the alien itself. Due to Disney plus and the obvious franchise reboot in Romulus, I have revisited my love for the original Ripley storyboard. As the predator knockoffs and Prometheus prequels for me do not uphold the feature presence and unique atmosphere of the original films. I just caught Romulus at the cinema, and was saddened and frustrated to see its lack of originality and storyboarding in enhancing something new yet nostalgic. Instead it felt like a collage of what we love about the franchise with simple updated graphics, a tribute to what we love without being something new within itself, some interesting and some fantastic ideas but yet not executed with enough breath and dimension for me. However if alien is suspense, and aliens is action, I adore the melancholic almost Shakespearean take that alien 3 gives us in drama. I hope over time fincher can come to appreciate as you so articulately covered what was created in such a hostile environment. More should watch this film with an open mind and heart, and simply appreciate the quality which far outweighs the special effects that hasn't aged well. Thanks again.

Here's an analysis of why the comic story "Aliens: Earth War" (originally titled "Aliens: Lost Worlds") is often considered better than the films Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, with examples: 1. Continuity and Character Development Hicks and Newt Survive: In the comic, Hicks and Newt survive, honoring the emotional investment viewers had in them from Aliens. Many fans were disappointed when both characters were killed off early in Alien 3. The comic allows their stories to continue, providing a stronger emotional connection. Newt’s Growth: Newt, who was a central figure as a child in the films, grows into a young woman with her own role and personality in the comic. This adds depth to her character and allows for exploration of her trauma and experiences. 2. Stronger and More Convincing Plot A Unified Team: The comic features a united team consisting of Ripley, Hicks, and Newt fighting the Alien threat together. In contrast, Ripley is often isolated in the films, particularly in Alien: Resurrection, which reduces the dynamics and teamwork among characters. Earth at Risk: The comic's storyline, involving an invasion of Earth by Xenomorphs, offers an epic and global-level threat. This raises the stakes to a grander scale, which is not achieved in the films. Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection maintain a more localized threat, making it seem less significant. 3. Multiple Perspectives and Deeper Narrative Ripley as a Complex Figure: The comic gives Ripley a deeper, mysterious connection to the Aliens, making her character more complex. The films provide less room for such nuances, especially in Alien: Resurrection, where Ripley's character is altered by cloning and feels estranged. Multifocal Narrative: The comic offers a multifaceted narrative that provides readers with a broader view of the impact of the Alien invasion. This multi-perspective storytelling enriches the universe and makes the story more engaging. 4. Creative Freedom and Unconventional Ideas Alternative Universe: The comic acts as an alternative continuation to Aliens, allowing for creative freedom that was not possible in the films. Ignoring the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection gives the writers the freedom to develop original and fresh ideas without constraints from previous films. Epic Climaxes: The conflicts and confrontations in the comics are often larger and more dramatic than in the films. The final showdown on Earth in Aliens: Earth War offers an intense and satisfying conclusion, which many fans felt was missing from the later films. Conclusion The comic story "Aliens: Earth War" is often regarded as superior because it maintains continuity and development of beloved characters, provides a richer and deeper plot, and allows for creative freedom and more dramatic moments. In contrast, the films Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection sometimes neglected or failed to fully explore these elements, leading to a less satisfying experience for many fans.

When I was younger I'd watch horror movies constantly. I went from scared of turning my back when I'm sleeping to laughing through some horror movies. Jumpscares would get no reaction from me. So I left the genre for a while becuase it had nothing more to offer. But this series. Oh boy, it was great, I felt chilled again. Not becuase Jumpscares but because of the story.

I watched A LOT of Hill House video essays and I don’t remember which one but it mentioned a fan theory that believes they are still in the house and it’s in fact not a happy ending. I love that it’s open to interpretation but still gives a solid ending for those who want it. Mike Flanagan is a genius.

My idea for an alien tv-series is as follows: It takes places just before the events in the first alien movie and happens on a planet near where the nostromo spaceship is shipping ore.Weyland-Yutani is on the planet and have terraformed it for years, when they discovers a cave with lots of xenomorph eggs. One of them get's infected and a xenomorph is born. It turns out to be a queen, and a lot of the Weyland-Yutani humans are infected and then a war breaks out.All the humans on the planet are wiped out and only a few manage to escape in a spaceship. Then they nuke the planet from orbit. Then Weyland-Yutani regrets the decision and a hunt for the xenomorph begins. They get a tip that there's a crashed spaceship on lv426 and sends the robot Ash on the Nostromo spaceship. But they are informed that the mission has failed and that Nostromo has gone missing. Then Weyland-Yutani get's a tip about an xenomorph on Fiorina161 and sends a team of researchers there. They finds a surviving prisoner that is impreagnated and a queen is born. Weyland-Yutani then wants to use the xenomorphs on the planets where the engineers are located because they want the technology to seed planets with life. They also want the elixir that provides humans with prolongued life. After they have managed to give birth to a flock of xenomorphs, they drops them on an engineer planet and causes everyone of them to die. Then they get hold of the blue elixir that gives prolongued life. But several ships with engineers that where away from their planet when Weyland-Yutani wiped the population out, pursue them and manages to get the elixir back, but gets trapped on the planet where both parties crash. Then a battle takes place and the crew from Weyland-Yutani gets the elixir that gives them prolongued life for thousands of years, but they are now trapped on the planet, with no means to get anywhere. But then they see a light aproaching, but is the spaceship friends or foes ?
