5:32:20 Hell yeah, I agree with Cingy 100% percent! That damn conversation with Sovereign is THE stand out moment in the series for me. And I'm not saying this lightly as the original trilogy is full of awesome moments that left an impact on me. But hot damn, that conversation with Sovereign is something else. By far my favorite villain in any game. And he speaks only once, every single sentence is brilliant.

I love playing as “earthborn, war hero, soldier” full paragon Shepard. It's not luck, it's strategy. Do the loyalty missions and use the correct characters. Garrus and Miranda for leading a team. Tali or Legion are best for the tube. Miranda, Simara, or Jack for the shielding. Doing all loyalty and using those characters you'll lose no one. I always took Garrus and Legion with me. So Tali for tubes, Miranda knows how to lead. Simara is literally biotics embodied lol.

Always make me laugh that scanning the keepers only reveals that they are in fact as old as the Citadel. Which implies they know how old the Citadel is. Which means they know it's not Prothean, right? Right?
@MrLilredmachine
@MrLilredmachine 2 ай бұрын
@@DJWolfHouse plot hole. It's a stupid throw away comment some writer added in to fill a dialogue space without thinking about it properly, in the process creating a problem in the lore. Implying scanning the keepers reveals how old the citadel is would immediately set alarm bells ringing in universe because it is assumed to be built by the Protheans, but knowing how old it actually was would render that an impossibility. It is colossally older than the Protheans. Same as the mission where you go and visit a dead Reaper that's just left floating around in accessible, albeit remote, space. This is despite Reapers taking extreme care to 'scrub' the galaxy clean of their presence on the way out. Whoever came up with that idea *should* have had empty coffee pots and balled up bits of paper thrown at them, then been laughed out of the room. Instead, it became a very cool if somewhat nonsensical and lore breaking mission.

@nilus2k Ай бұрын
@@MrLilredmachineThey know how old the keepers are and they know how old the Citadel is but I don’t think they have a definitive answer for when and how long the Protheans ruled the universe. So not really a plot hole
@MrLilredmachine
@MrLilredmachine Ай бұрын
@nilus2k do they know how old the Reapers are? Do they (and by they I mean the galactic population in general) know how old the citadel is? I ask because the Reapers were created by the Leviathans around 20,000 cycles ago, or a BILLION years. The Citadel is a primary functional part of a cycle and the centre point of the Mass Relay network, so it is highly likely that it existed very early on in the process. The dead reaper they find is itself 37 million years old for example, that is dramatically longer than any known civilisation. Remember they live in a galaxy where nothing, as far as we are aware, has ever lived more than 50,000 years in one go, at least for a billion years. Are we supposed to believe that they just take the fact the Protheans were alive and technologically advanced enough nearly a billion years ago to build structures such as the Citadel and the mass relay network in general? Even though they only died out 50k years ago? A million years, maybe. A billion years? Life has taken 500+ million years just to evolve from single cell to apes. To fathom that a civilisation has been around that long without a major destructive event amongst themselves and was already advanced enough to build something like the citadel a billion years ago is a huge reach. I would presume this leaves two possibilities. 1) They don't actually know how old the Citadel is and the informational insert is, again, the ramblings of some crunched lore back filler at 2am trying to fill space before launch and not realising they are writing nonsense. 2) They simply know the Keepers are the same age as the Citadel, but not how old either of them are. In which case it is written very strangely and should just say something along the lines of 'the Keepers have always been on the Citadel' or that the Citadel is their 'natural' habitat and they have a symbiotic relationship with it. I will freely admit, I know they assume the Citadel and all major tech was built by the Protheans, and that's fine in itself. However that implies they don't know how old anything is at all, so it should never be implied that things be a certain 'age' or that they know exactly how old anything that they didn't create themselves is. The frequency of the cycles is too short for that.

This is a theme in a good chunk of your videos. I'm not sure if it's just you listening to music or something while playing, but you miss out on a ton of niche dialogue choices/queues in many games if that's the case. i.e. a voice actor giving a completely different connotation to what a line means vs. what you may take it at if you simply read the written subtitle.

Some content creators will deliberately mispronounce words to encourage the audience to go to the comments section and call them out on it. It's a common method of driving viewer engagement, and I have no doubt that's what's happening here. I'm about 1:55:00 into the video as of right now, and I've counted about 5 words he's mispronounced. Vorsha instead of Vorcha. Batuarians instead of Batarians. Geenophage instead of Genophage. Kai-dan instead of Kay-den (I know it's pronounced like the former, but it's spelled like the latter). Lastly, Kasumi and Keiji were also mispronounced. When most KZbinrs use this tactic, it's used a lot more sparingly, but in this video it's everywhere. TLDR; You're not wrong, the mispronounciations are everywhere, especially when they shouldn't be

That's such a big oof. You sent away one of the best hold the line members, and took the other 2 with you. I send Mordin back with the crew because of his recruitment mission being a combat doctor. I take Legion and Miranda with me. Legions Widow is a powerhouse and Miranda quitting is fun. The only difference between that and my first playthrough is I took Thane not Miranda. Tali Tech Specialist, Garrus Squad Leader, Mordin Crew Escort, Jack Biotic specialist, and 2 Snipers with me felt logical when I first played. Also Mordin and Legion dying makes the Genophage cure messy, and Geth Quarian peace impossible. Extremely unfortunate.

3:52:15 ive actually never seen before what happens if you choose the geth upgrade, mostly because ive been unable to bring myself to romance anyone other than Tali in my playthroughs, but also because both times ive managed to have Quarian-Geth peace. Easily i think that scene is one of the highlights of the franchise, perfectly build and insanely difficult to pull-off. Imo a quest best saved for last. Seeing Tali take her off her mask is the definition of cosmic irony. She finally gets to step foot on her home planet, only for her species to be annihilated, and to have her will to go on taken on the shores of the very place that had driven her and her people for the past few centuries. Their Jerusalem, and their Necropolis

I know I’m necroing this comment but Systhesis is by far the worst ending. The entire trilogy your objective is to destroy the reapers and end the threat to the galaxy. Only in the last 20 minutes of the third game is the possibility of unity shown to be an option. Choosing synthesis not only allows the reapers to live, it’s also exactly what Saren (or more accurately Sovereign) wanted in ME1. It feels kind of crazy to be fighting against a sentient race of machines for 3 entire games only for you to be like “let’s be friends” at the very end of that journey. Especially when they, unlike the geth, show zero signs of wanting to actually coexist with the galactic community (until the EC changes that make them be nice afterwards) Synthesis, to me, is the worst ending. It’s either Saren was right, The illusive man was right (they were indoctrinated so it’s safe to say siding with them means siding with the reapers) or you destroy the reaper threat. Also ik the indoctrination theory isn’t cannon but if you’re looking at that choosing synthesis is the fully indoctrinated ending. I adore the nuance of this game, I originally thought synthesis was the best option to until I started thinking about it
@xiongrey19
@xiongrey19 23 күн бұрын
@huskycruxes7232 Even though you hold the exact opposite view from me, I like your comment ^.^ I do like how these games can mean something for one and something different for another. Like for me, i walked away from the Saren boss fight with the nagging feeling that Saren was wrong, but some parts were right. So I spent 2 and 3 trying hard to be the voice of unity and for me the narrative reinforced that with how many they vs they conflicts í had to choose between with choosing life and mediation being the most hard but the most rewarding for me. So when the star child choice came up, it was really the only choice. It was the natural progression of everything i had fought for as Shepard. Control was just a cycle of control perpetusted. Destroy was just violence again. Shooting the star child was nihilist escaping from having to choose. Synthesis forced everyone on the same playing field, allowing for that middle ground and understanding to be reached. So, for me, it wasn't the odd ending out. It was the only viable ending left.

Son, I'm disappointed in you... You mention for mass effect 3 that choices feel like they don't matter because they replace mordin with that other Salarian. You also talked about how amazing mass effect 2 is. However mass effect 2 does the same exact thing if you kill wrex in your playthrough of the first game. They just replace him with a different krogan. Be consistent. I don't really view the replacement as a problem because the story needs to be told and mordins sacrifice to spread the cure is less impactful if it's not mordin doing it.

Well son, I appreciate all the hard work you put into these videos. The whole reason I decided to re-start the trilogy was because of your ME1 video. Being more of a slash-slash type player, I was hesitant to play a pew-pew game, but I found myself getting invested. Sorry to hear the comics and novels are something I can skip, but I'm hyped to finish the Legendary trilogy. And here's hoping the next game they do doesn't disappoint you (or me).

Great content! You might want to check some of your facts in your explanations though because some of it is way off. For example, Relay 314 isn't the one leading to Rachni space. The Turians attacked because the Citadel have a strict policy against recklessly opening every relay people come across because that's how the Rachni wars began. There's a vague link between R314 and the Rachni but nothing close to what's stated here

Awesome video. I've been with Mass Effect since day one, or at least a few weeks after release around Christmas 2007, and it's been a weird but awesome ride. I love most things fantasy/sci-fi and this almost perfectly combines both. It really isn't perfect by any means, however, it's just really good fun.

Didn't do the shadow broker mission. You can finish the other missions after the IFF. Don't know why you didn't decide to just roll back your save on the final mission. Also the game literally tells you to send Morgan back to the ship.

Ugh, I have such a hard time with ME3's ending... After I've worked my ass off over two games to create peace between Geth and Quarians, Shepherd doesn't even argue with that stupid catalyst kid and tells him that war between synths and organics is not inevitable (or that even if it were, none of it's the Reapers fucking business). He simply accepts these dumb choices. And if I shoot the kid, I get Bioware flipping me the bird like an angry toddler, for not seeing the "genius" of their pick-your-color-ending in the first place. And why do I have to talk to that kid, instead of the fallen Virmire-squadmate? I don't give a damn about the kid, he was in one cutscene and died. Like so many others. And then there are these awesome people and Leviathan, who I've recruited to... Not show up. There is hardly any cutscene showing me the special people and units I've recruited. And the last fight in the game? Horde mode in a boring area around two abandoned Makos. And Bioware thinking the fascist ending, where you force everybody to become a part of the Herrenrasse as the Reapers see them fit... Holy fuck, I couldn't believe that. And Shepherd says nothing. No resistance, no will to change these ancient rules. He/she just nods and picks a color. I get riled up about this huge, huge didappointment still, after all this time. I loved ME so much, it was my favorite series as a teenager and then it dropped the ball in such spectacular fashion. I think no piece of media has ever felt that disappointing after ME3.

I feel like someone or maybe other people have already talked about this but I would like to believe that the marks we see on Shepherd's face in a renegade play through how it has all the cracks and his eyes, are due to the cybernetics and mechanical process that was involved in his creation what we see underneath the skin is the metal and pieces that were used to rebuild him. So who's to say underneath Shepherd's actual face is a bunch of metal and mesh basically having his face reformed

I liked Andromeda. Not as much as the original trilogy, of course, but it was not the worst thing ever. We do know there's a new ME game on the way, and my hope is rather than sweeping Andromeda under the rug and pretending it never ever EVER happened, I'd rather they learn from its mistakes and improve on the concept.

I did not really like it, but I think it had some good ideas for the direction of the series. Bad execution, but a great idea. I am sad that they seem to be backing away from it. I don't think it lived up to the feeling of exploring undiscovered space, but it feels sad to just abandon Andomeda.

Did the mining in ME2 ever get patched? I never found it tedious at all, it was always just a little side thing I did between missions. Travel to a new system, check out the new planets, read their description, send some probes to mine for minerals. Never really found myself lacking, got every upgrade I wanted and the three ship upgrades too. I was pretty upset when they got rid of it in ME3. Also it's too bad we didn't have Michael Madsen around to voice Jacoby.

Thank you for the video - I really enjoyed it. However, I'd like to point out some errors of fact and pronunciation you made. I played all three of these games heavily both when they came out and every now and then a few years after the 3rd game: -You referred to Barla Von as a "shadow broker." He's actually an information broker who sometimes works with the shadowbroker. 20:13 -You refer to Septimus Oraka as a "Turian general of some great renown." He's a retired self-important general who know one's ever heard of. He's even considered to be a nuisance in ME3 whom you could either assassinate or spare by convincing an NPC to trade some weapons to you so as to get Blue Sun support for the war effort. 24:25 - Wrex doesn't have a feud with Fist. In fact, he has nothing personal against Fist. Wrex is a merc and was hired to kill him. 20:52 -You mispronounce administrator Analeis' name. In addition, you say he's protecting Matriach Benezia which is not true. He has locked down access to Peak 15 for a legitimate reason - the road there is dangerous because there is currently a bad snow storm. 44:03 - You say that the Rachni Queen implies the Rachni were not responsible for the Rachni Wars which is correct. However, then you say that the Rachni were just trying to repopulate peacefully - this is not correct. You didn't mention the most important part of her conversation with Shepard in which she talks about "sour notes," heavily implying that some unknown force (the audience and Shepard know it's the Reapers) was controlling the Rachni during the Rachni Wars. 47:55 -You say that the Thorian is spitting out "mind controlled" Asaris neglecting to mention the fact that it is absorbing Shiala to create clones of her to fight Sheaprd. 49:53 -You refered to Captain Kirrahe as Dr. Kirrahe (beginning at 50:58), then correctly call him Captain Kirahe 2 seconds later (51:00), and again call him Dr. Kirrahe (1:05:27) - You say that Sovereign says organic life is a mistake. Even as a paraphrase, this is not correct. Sovereign actually says that life is a "genetic mutation." "An accident." This distinction is important: a mistake implies that something intelligent created life and made the wrong decision by doing so. An accident plus a "genetic mutation" implies that life came into existence inadvertently through a random and unfortunate process not caused by anyone - no one is to blame for it. 52:52 -Aside from the fact that you mispronounce Ilos, you state incorrectly that the reason Saren is seeking the Citadel is because it was damaged and he wants to fix it. As a matter of fact, the Citadel is not damaged. The problem is that the Prothean scientists who made the one-way trip to the Citadel through the mini mass relay they constructed (the Conduit) altered the signal that the Keepers send out via Reaper input to open the Citadel mass relay to allow the Reapers to flood in from dark space. Because of this, Saren's goal is to open the Citadel relay manually. 55:55 - You say you found Fist and "let Wrex shoot him." Wrex shoots Fist no matter what if you bring him with you. You can even see in the video that Shepard recoils in surprise when Wrex shoots Fist. 1:00:38 -You say that Captain Matsuo didn't know Shepard was a Spectre which is why she and her security force drew their guns on him. This is incorrect. Joker tells Noveria control before the Normandy lands that it has a Spectre aboard. In fact, for a reason not explained, she and her security force draw their guns on Shepard anyway despite knowing he's a Spectre. 1:03:09 -You mispronounce the words Salarians, Hanar, and genophage throughout your video (you eventually correct your pronunciation of genophage later in the video). ME2: -You mispronounce the words Batarians, Vorcha, Kal'Reegar, Maelon, Pragia, Sidonus, Admiralty Board, nar rayya, and Kasumi throughout the video. -You say Jacob doesn't know what happened to Shepard's crew when you first meet him when in fact he tells you what happened to his crew after you help him fight off the mechs. 1:24:17 -You say the Citadel had to be rebuilt and new stores have cropped off as a result and implying that these stores are on the Presidium. As a matter of fact, you are in "wards" Shepard hasn't been to before. 1:38:32 - 138:45 -You say the kid "doesn't even know how to spot a junk weapon" after Shepard's Paragon interrupt. The kid doesn't have a junk weapon - Shepard deliberately breaks it to save the kid's life by ensuring that he no longer joins the attack on Archangel. 1:50:00 - 150:07 - You finally pronounce "genophage" correctly 2:16:36 -You say that Mordin and his team wanted to create a new genophage. That is wrong. They are modifying the current genophage because Krogan physiology has adapted to counter the genophage's effects. 2:17:12 -You say Mordin wants to help Maelon and "reconcile with the things he did before." At this stage of Mordin's character arch, he does not think he has to reconcile for anything he's done. He believes his modification of the genophage is justified. 2:17:51 -You mispronounce Pragia 2:22:54 -You mispronounce Sidonus 2:25:32 -You mispronounce Admiralty 2:29:02 -You finally pronounce Batarian correctly 2:50:16 -You say you rescue Mordin's friend and killed his captors. You picked the red Renegade dialogue option that spares the captors 2:50:23 (Strike this. You can still choose to kill the Batarians after you use either the Paragon or Renegade speech check) ME 3: -You say Shepard can convince Mordin to not dispense the cure. You don't mention that this is an option only if Wrex is dead. 3:39:46 -You say Dr. Garneau is indoctrinated and blows up the artifact. This is incorrect. Dr. Garneau has been dead since Shepard arrived at the mining facility. The man who blows up the artifact is pretending to be Dr. Garneau. 3:56:04 -You say the Leviathans tried to help out the smaller races - implying that they tried to do so for benevolent reasons. This leaves out a very important piece of information: the Leviathans were helping out the lesser races only so they could continue to have a supply of thralls. 3:56:51

ME3 was the first game in the series that I played because my brother had it at the time. I played it up until I was forced to choose between Legion and Tali. The emotions that went through me when Tali jumped where a punch to the gut and I immediately stopped playing and bought ME1 and 2 that day. To this day, the Mass Effect games are the only games that I've completed multiple times all the way through.

Love your retrospectives. Mass Effect 1 is the only game in the series I really enjoyed. I love how ME1 has so many mysteries. When ME2 and 3 came in with more answers, I didn't find them satisfying. Plus, I feel like ME1 had a space opera feeling that got more modern-action-movie in 2.
