I agree. The water has nowhere to go because all the drainage systems are block. Most grinds/ gutters have weeds and plants growing out of them. councils and water companys are responsible

For those of us who live in Manchester and less than a mile from the Mersey at Didsbury it was because of heavy and persisent rain and where 3 smaller fast flowing rivers join as well as several streams .PS we do live in a wet part of the UK.Heavy rain in an urban environment will cause flooding ..as we will continue to find outv PS United Utilities dont "manage" the rivers.

@@simonartley1645 peel holdings are responsible for the canal walls and water way but outside of that is council and UU. The water probably wouldn't be so high up in the fields if there was proper drainage systems in place that actually work. As waterways with banks made of mud are known for breaching you'd think, seeing as it has happened before in the same spot, they would have put a contingency plan in place after the last breach..

@@MrKips1 The Appartments were originally a 19th century industrial mill that was empty for many years .They were built near little rivers for power and there are several in Stockport . It was poor planning to have built on the ground floor.

As others have said, years of neglect of dredging rivers and streams and not properly cleaning drains and or blocking of drains. Building on flood plains. Mass housing construction with no regard for proper drainage by building companies are responsible for the flooding.

All that money saved in the last century not clearing ditches, emptying drains, building new sewers to go with new houses and not dredging rivers, doesn't look so much of a saving now, does it? I feel privileged to live on The Wirral. We very rarely get extreme weather here. The snow is often light, rain isn't so heavy and in all my 68yrs I have not seen a flood, I've seen waterlogged roads and fields but I myself have never seen a real flood. I think it must be because this is a peninsula surrounded by seawater.

I'm afraid that the sea level will rise significantly if the scientists'conclusions are correct. We only now need two or three days of rainfall and a flood occurs. This was never the case in my youth and we would get predictable rainy weather and expect concurrent wet days but not flooding at the regular rate we now see. It's like the water cannot seep into our soil as it once did!
