Growing up a girl (who just so happened to like videogames), it never felt "wrong" to play as a male character. Nor did it feel dismissive to who young me was irl. The ability to get immersed in the story of a fictional world does not depend on your real life status, but rather, one's ability to empathize with the motives and traits of the characters within said world. Of course, being able to choose a female character in games like Skyrim was fun, but so was playing as a male on replays. When people demand the protaginist look like them in order to enjoy a medium, they're quite frankly telling on their own disability to empathize with people different from themselves. (On a side note: A lot of ladies do not mind the slightest to have a handsome and capable male protagonist to look at while playing, same as many dudes enjoy playing as a beautiful and nimble woman.)

that’s one reason why helldivers is so popular. you don’t have to play every single day. you don’t miss out on anything if you take a break for a few days and therefore aren’t pressured into playing it religiously. only downside to it is that it’s basically treason to take a break

For me its: The price hike to 70 makes me think a lot more about my purchases. This made me make a "buy on sale" list. I'm strictly single player for almost all games, so I avoid all Live services. And I found out there are a lot of great "older" now completely patched games out there for half new price. So I'm spending a lot less while still playing about as much.

The stuff I'm looking forward to is Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2, SMT V Vengeance, Ys 10 Nordics, Visions of Mana, the Elden Ring DLC and maybe Hellblade 2. I'll wait for reviews before I play that one though. I feel you on the not having time to play though. I'm married with four kids and usually only get to play a few hours only on the weekends. Right now I'm working my way through Armored core 6, which is a blast.

I started worrying about the gaming industry when back in the day when Twitter was Twitter I complained about how much I HATED the little girl in the Last of Us because nothing about her attitude made me want to nurture or protect her. People were not happy about that. Rey is not badass. That's the problem. She is the equivalent of all force powers unlocked at the start. That Star Wars character. What is wrong with her animations. It's like they didn't bother animating reactions to whats going on. It's just default looking straight ahead. All the characters are doing it, actually. And I can't stand when they insert story lines during movie events. One, because you know they have to fail. Like in Solo's case. And two, they break stuff. Like Obiwan does. Also, the only reason why people are obsessed with Stellar Blade. Is simply because western games have made crap looking women. If this never happened. And the game came out. Everyone would say she's hot. And the rest of the time would be talking about the game play and story. I remember Dragon's Crown. I went: Oh, hot Amazon? Is this game good? Cool, it's good.
