This is GOAT episode, thank you guys! I really appreciate your dedication to clean, or at least expose real side of esports, this is real battle for the common man, but unfortunately many people don't have spine or they are morally corrupt. Everyone who isn't can see that you guys put heart and soul into making esports a decent industry, which isn't only declaratively ''inclusive'' and where people have and stand by their moral principles.

Speaking upon Microsoft --- I hope to god they can re-imagine both Warcraft and Starcraft RTS's that hits on the original essence of what these games and series were. On the eSports side --- look at Age of Empires 2. It's booming. They have been releasing consistent good quality expansions for that game since reviving it and they have been patching it and they seem to work with and prop up the respected figures in that area. There's ongoing tournaments from a variety of hosts - so it gives me hope that if they revived Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2 or made Warcraft 4 and Starcraft 3 that they would treat it right from the get go, that we would not only get quality products, but quality production behind it and WITH appropriate budgets and spending.

The riot games cult part is really interesting. Every employee in capitalism needs to be very careful about making your job the meaning of your life. It really scares me when ppl start saying “we are doing this” and “we are going to do that” as they’re an integral part of the company, when in reality they are just another employee that can be let go at any moment without any real justification, leading to heavy depression, loss of meaning, emptyness etc. Always have a plan B, C and D and always keep in mind any company can let you go as quickly as they hired you (or faster). Powerful and Rich ppl do what they want and most of the normal ppl just do not care and still elect them or buy their cars. The thing with many of these layoffs is that especially in development, these people are not only historically really well paid for often quite cushy jobs, but also drowning in messages from recruiters in other companies and industries. You might not be a GAME developer, but by god so few of us get to choose our place of employment to this extent. Go work for a SaaS company or anywhere else - you don't HAVE to work in gaming. It's the tiniest violin in the world when you know these people are top-10% earners crying the loudest out of anyone in the room, especially when they've always gotten to have their pick of the market. It's a very gentle reminder of reality, compared to most other jobs when the layoffs come.

A few corrections for Thorin: US unemployment is lower than pre-covid levels, so the argument of "it's just less bad" is kinda dumb and you have to give a 3 months notice in Germany to your landlord (the legal maximum for private use renters, contracts that say otherwise will not hold up legally), not a year. So no, these people are not stuck paying rent for a year if they got laid off.
