The Hamstrings are the three posterior thigh muscles. Little known fact, they get the name "Hamstrings" because butchers hang the ham by their tendons. They are the main knee flexors.
The Gastrocnemius and Soleus are not the only lower leg muscles, however for this video, those are the ones I'm addressing. Gastrocnemius is known as the dancer's muscle because it assists ballerinas to stand on their toes. Soleus and Gastrocnemius are the main planter flexors of the ankle.

I wish all teachers did this. Draw the muscles and name them as you massage. Makes it clear as water. This type of teaching benefits the auditory, visual, and the physical learners, keeping everyone interested and actually learning. Thanks again Maria!! You helped me through school for real!!
@MassageTherapeutics915

Gordion I really appreciate your feedback and I’m glad it’s helped you through school. In all fairness to teachers doing the drawings takes time & effort & most don’t have the time. It would be ideal to this every time we teach! I’ve been having the students draw the muscles for 25 years & they say it’s what helps them the most to learn them. I let them draw them because I don’t have the time. Thank you for your support!

There are so many benefits to being a massage therapist. I say do your homework & look for a good school. Most states have 500hr programs more or less. It’s a lot of A&P & fundamentals of massage. I really do hope you choose to be a therapist. Where are you located? If you’re close to El Paso Tx come join us at the college. We have 6 or 9 month programs. Best of luck!

First of I really want to thank for taking the time and drawing the illustrations on the client. It helps a lot visually compared to some who will say a bunch of muscle groups or bones even but won’t point or demonstrate what they’re saying. Also have you considered doing a video about the rhomboids, lower traps and scapula massage? Essentially a upper back massage. Maybe deep massage?

@@MassageTherapeutics915 I give them hehehe. E spain, the requirements are some studies of about 2 years, you also have to know that there are several types of massage, decontracturing, relaxing, etc ... There are also different techniques: tuina, reiki, Shiatsu,etc.
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 5 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Perez it sounds like extensive learning! 2 years is more than the 500hrs most schools require. You also learn more modalities than we teach in most of our programs. They just get an introduction to different modalities not anything extensive. Tuina was my first modality I learned besides Swedish. It’s also the oldest modality recorded! Pues Uds tienen mucho más estudio que los requisitos de la mayoría aquí en EU. La mayoría solo requiere 500 horas. Gracias por compartir!

I just found these videos courtesy of my classmate. I'm in my last month at school and my MBLEx is scheduled for August 1st. I'm nervous but eager to jump into the work. And I like the A&P videos you have because they give me a visual of the muscles on the limbs, which helps cement it into my mind. I hope you make more of these kinds of videos in the near future! It's been over a year since I took A&P, so I'm struggling to catch up on this subject in general.

Ugghhhhh... My right hamstring has been bothering me so much lately... I’m a dancer, so I do a lot of splits. In fact, before I had problems with my right hamstring, I could get an over-split on that side. Then, I took 2 weeks off of dance for mental health reasons, went back, and found just the slightest stretching of the hamstring really painful. During the break, I kept stretching in P.E., had my splits then, went back to dance, and my body said “Aw HELL NAW.” This video really helps me understand which muscle might be causing the problem. Hmmmmmm....

There is controversy on this still. I can totally agree that swelling is a natural response to protect the injury from further movement & injury. The swelling also increases vasodilation to bring immune cells & nutrients to the area. When you apply ice it constricts the blood vessels. So yes I have heard this however yet it’s still confusing as to when and for how long to use the ice! Any enlightenment you can give is greatly appreciated!!! Thank you for your comment...

@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 5 жыл бұрын
Wiola Misiuna oh my gosh that’s an awful injury! It must have been painful 😖. Remember that tendons have less blood flow so it takes longer to heal. Make sure you check with your dr. First. I would recommend some light stretching like when your sitting down & doing plantar flexión & extensión. Start of gently & less reps. Ice brings down swelling too & helps with the pain. MEAT is used more than RICE In certain cases. I would work on the calf muscles too like the gastrocnemius. Thank you very much for the lovely comments. Best wishes on your recovery & tendons do take longer to heal! So be patient 😘🤗

What would a massage on a pulled hamstring feel like
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 4 жыл бұрын
9 efc1878themightyblues for the therapist or the client? There’s a few things to consider: Where is the hamstrings pulled. There’s 3 heads & 3 different insertions so first investigate where they feel pain. You can look for any bruising in case it’s a strain with a tear. Strain with a T has to do with the Tendons (muscle to bone). Sprain has to do with ligament (attach bone to bone)...strains are painful to the touch & feel knotty or tight. The skin around it is usually taught since there might be some swelling. Lots of things to consider and above all ask feedback from your client! Let the clients body direct & show you where they need the work! I hope this helps 🤗

@@MassageTherapeutics915 how come a massage is so good for a pulled hamstring is it to get the blood flow back again
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 4 жыл бұрын
9 efc1878themightyblues yes that is one reason it is good. To create vaso dilation which bring oxygen & provides nutrients to the muscle through the blood. Another is touch is very important to help muscles heal by creating neurological effects to get rid of the trauma to the muscle. Muscle has memory just like our brain so it’s important to treat the neuromuscular junction to release trauma to muscle.

Hi One question? Would you include gluteus maximus in hip rotators? Thank you
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 5 жыл бұрын
JESUSELCAMINOALPADRE yes you really can’t avoid it because the gluteus Maximus is superior to the deep hip rotators. So you’re really working through most of the glutes. Make sure you work origin & insertion. If you work the trochanter you’re sure to work all the insertions of the deep rotators. The insertion of the gluteus Maximus is on the femur. You can watch the deep hip rotator video. I’m sure it will help you. Good luck
