Bay Colony Railroad returns to Cape Cod - 1/2/2024

In this video we see Bay Colony Railroad locomotives return to Cape Cod for the first time since 2007. This is a result of the Bay Colony purchase by Mass Coastal and the engines were placed in storage in Hyannis, MA. We follow the locomotive power move from Taunton to Hyannis, MA. The video shows the two BCLR units being placed on a restored track in Hyannis Yard.

Great video, I hope Mass Coastal uses them someday, to me the exterior of both locomotives looks good. It sounds like it’s an internal problem if they say they’re in rough shape. Fix them up and put them to work someday, keep them in storage if they’re not ready to operate. How would 1701 get to Mass Coastal if they take it, would they run it or haul it, I’m curious. All 3 locomotives have a future

I’m just wondering is the rail line in Yarmouth going to stay put. I know In the 70’s rail lines where still in operation in Dennis over the bass river bridge and we’re regularly delivering freight but was sadly replaced with a bike trail. I wish lines were still operating in Dennis because they could’ve been put to good use.

The rail line in Yarmouth is in use by the trash train so it won’t be going anywhere.

I’m also upset that the Falmouth line no longer runs to woods hole. Me and my family would love to take a trip to one of the islands and if rail lines still operated there we could ride a train directly to the ferry.

@@goatgirl4u I don't understand that MASS can't see the benefit of rail service to the ferry landing at Woods Hole or even New Bedford where the tracks go right to the ferry terminal and at Fall River where the tracks go right to the very end of the ferry pier.

Phase 2 of South Coast Rail includes a stop near Battleshio Cove but I don't believe there are any ferries running from there anymore. The New Bedford station is actually at the current ferry parking lot​. @@mrchairman08

Bay Colony is looking Sunny for sure. Nice trip. An old telephone pole which it appeared to have its blue glass insulators on. Plus a bird of prey nest maybe too........didn't look like a Blue Herons nest but maybe so... Thanks.

@@tomp8871 I love Ospreys. I have only seen two....huge. One at Royal Grove Nebraska a trout farm area. Also at Grand Forks North Dakota in town flying overhead. They are truly a wonder. Wasn't Penelope a Osprey that they tracked her flight down to South America or the Caribbean islands... Thanks

Right now it seems they will be in storage with the possibility of being used for parts. They always have the option to be entered into service but I’ve heard they are not in good condition

Drummac is getting pretty good rebuilding locomotive in wareham. I know they have done 3 for the T so far We did 2 blue ones and one the regular color scheme when I was there last year. And they have three more apart.

It’s on a line isolated from the Mass Coastal system so I’d say probably not.

Hmm... its going to be intresting what they plan on doing with it... me personally M.C. should make a deal with CSX and just allow CSX to work the Millis and bring 1701 down to Hyannis because CSX is already there and it wouldnt be too much effort to service the concrete plant

@@stephengogan1774 Just my opinion (unless MC has something up there sleeve for the Millis Line) but,......Currently there are zero customers on the line. It has been inactive for well over a year now since the last string of cement cars came down for trans loading. The line what's left of it is in very poor condition and I don't think CSX would want anything to do with it. As far as 1701, its stranded in no mans land and in poor condition. I am sure CSX would not touch it in its current state to get it moved down to Middleboro onto MC trackage. Hopefully, the line and the 1701 can be saved.
