I have the US version here, PTO driven. Haven't tried it yet but, It's always been in the dry storage, so it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to make it go. Mine has the open chain in the feeder , never saw one with a canvas lined one.

I do like these, i think your American one could well be built better than ours. I know the Scottish built 400 and 500 combines had a reputation for being under engineered compared to the French and American ones. Apparently they were sent over here to copy. They French made a good job of it the Scottish cut corners to save money. This is what i heard. Of course i wasn't alive then.

mmm! so that's where the Ferguson trailer wheels originated !. Interesting short video - what's the problem with the straw coming back around? was that the problem. Other 701's seemed to work fine in hay and straw. Aye that's the frustration with SOME machines - have a mindset of their own!

I think that the machine from new had canvas flaps over the actual elevator chains. They we’re meant to prevent wrapping. Some of these canvases were missing. I’m not a baler expert but I did film the video.

Seems like it's getting the job done.

Well yes sort off. It wasn't very clever. It was quite damp and windy. It was cleaning up a blown about swathe my Gleaner had left behind. Looked nice and sounded nice though. I would like to get a Massey 701. I would prefer a working one.
