Just try finding one somebody is willing to sell that is still field worthy or can be brought back up to field worthy. Some people were disappointed with the life span of the 4020 engine and the 190XT was known for flying out of gear and axle problems. None were completely perfect but the 1100 was highly competitive with the others.

Absolutely! You do see nice tractors come up from time to time, but like anything else they will eventually fade from the farm scene as time goes by. It is one of the reasons that I make my videos, so that maybe they will be preserved just a little bit longer in some odd way. They certainly had their strong points and their weak points, but overall, I feel like that the 1100 and 1130 deserve the Legendary Tractor Title and that is why I made this video. I just wish Massey had made a little bit better brochure!

My Dad was a dealer. 1100. 1105. 1130. 1135 were probably the best series built by MF. Can get over 10,000 hours of service from many of them.

Yep. Massey was the parent company of Perkins at the time!

@@LegendaryTractors I never could understand why mf put cat engines into the 1500 series 4x4 tractors instead of their v8 Perkins engines that where better quality engines , what do you think 🤔 ?

MF certainly made Perkins work with the 1150 although that was a slightly smaller engine than the 3208. If I had to guess it probably boils down to cost as the Cat was probably cheaper, but that is pure speculation on my part.

@@LegendaryTractors 3208 cat engines are expensive to work on . I can't imagine how they could have thought that it would be cheaper to fix down the road . Maybe the initial cost but 5 or more years later when brake downs occur they should have been smart enough to stick with tried and true Perkins engines . Same thing with the 4000 series 4x4 tractors they should have used Perkins instead of putting cummins engines in those tractors . It's like the old saying goes you don't send boys = cat & cummins engines to do a man's job = Perkins engines lol 😆

In the spring of 1986 I helped a Farmer plant about 2000 Acres of Corn scattered over about a 30 mile radius in 4 counties all rented land 10, 15, 30 acres here 10, 20, etc acres there, you get the picture.. We were using 3 tractors A 1155 Massey V-8 with a disk, a 1175 Case with a field cultivator, and a 4840 hitched to a 6row subsoiler- J D max-merge 30in row planter with saddle tanks for pre-emerge behind planter..... We ran in tandem in every field , One Behind the other 2 -12hr shifts...... I was operating the 1155 during the day....... That was like stoking a boiler......Open station with canopy..... Those exhaust manifolds sticking out on each side of the engine with straight pipes BAKED me like a POTATOE....... Now what were you saying???

Huh??? Can't hear very well out of my left ear either from too many tractor exhausts barking in it while looking over my right shoulder at whatever I was towing behind the tractor. Very cool story! Thanks for sharing and for watching my videos!

Grew up with Massey Harris tractors. By the time I was ready to buy tractors MF dealers were few and far between. The main tractor brands in our area was Int (3 dealers) and JD (2 dealers).AC was next most prevelant.

In the Finger Lakes Region of NY where I grew up it was kind of the same. There were Massey Dealers up through the early 80's and then there wasn't. There sure were a bunch of the 1100s around though and that's one of the reasons that I decided to make this video. Thanks for watching!!

i personally believe mf was way ahead of everbody back then i put one 1100 thru over 13xxx hrs with it weighing over 18xxx lbs overhauled once pto shaft splines wore out before anything else i,v e had 5 1100 still have 3 1 with jusst little over 2xxx hrs verifible alo have1135 the early mf cabs were not good they broke apart in back upper corners but they did perfect on 1135

one other thing mf had a good dealer network in a lot of areas but didnt support them in 80 turn down we had mf dealer they made him take 6.5 mil combine invetory no cheap interest or waiver needless to say he switched to ih he sold a lot of mf also

Yeah, the 80's pretty much sucked for all of the manufacturers. I am making a video now on the Case tractors of the time and I touch on this subject a bit. I appreciate you sharing your comments about the 1100. My Uncle had one back in the day and I loved that tractor! Thanks for watching!
