Massey Ferguson 65 Part 73, I found the Hydraulic Problem!

Nice video. I didn’t realize that oil pipe would come out with the cover still on. That’s helpful. Probably gonna steal your idea of the engine stand as a work bench. Very smart!

Only the early tractors will let you remove the pipe, once you get to 100 series with pressure control you cant get it out.

Im presuming some shit in the relief valve on the hydraulic pump. I can probably test it easily enough.

Yes indeed, I do believe you have found the problem. Like Barry said, had to be some LARGE forces at play there, or either a defect in the cylinder. Catastrophic failure is an understatement for that one!

I just found some push rod remains under the diff. Im bloody lucky it didnt get caught up I reckon.

I think a jammed shut relief valve. Im yet to prove that though.

My 65 when I popped the top off shows that the dowel locating plates have snapped and bent. I got one out and the other is stuck fast. I’ll have to drill and tap it out. There is a section of the hydraulic pump cracked off. Not sure what would cause this much damage.

Often a stuck implement pto shaft putting stress on the pto on the tractor

Well ill say, she gave good service for a long time, till she didnt. Will be nice to see her up and lifting once again. Wish i knew what happened to the old girl, so i can avoid crippling my MF35. Or as my late father in law termed her...."that dam EmEffer". Lol

I imagine the relief valve stuck shut. Im yet to test that theory.

If you buy from a local company you will have warranty direct from overseas you wont.

Hi Lance, i am really interested to watch this. I have been working through rebuilding my MF65 Hydraulic top plate using a Sparex lift shaft. I have found the splines on the lift shaft do not fit the original pivot (thing with the Donkey dick :)) or lift arms. I am waiting to see if you have the same issue. I always enjoy and learn from watching your work. keep it up. thanks heaps Phil.

I'll go and do a test fit, I may get to filming that today, not sure how far I will get but I can do a test fit easily.

Philip I just tried mine and they fit but are firm. The main donkey dick holder bumps on by hand, the lift arms are a little tighter and will need a bump on with a hammer but they go half way by bumping on the bench.

I just assembled mine fully and the spares shaft is 4 to 5m longer than the original so I will need to make some spacing washers I think.
