Hi! Here’s an instant pot recipe: You want to wash your beans at least 3 times until the water runs clear. I normally make about 2 cups or so for a family of four and have left overs. I then put about 5-6 inches of water above the beans. I put the pressure on high for an hour and a half. I always start them in the morning so that it can naturally depressurize and it won’t make a mess. Once the beans are done, I add the salt to taste and stir. To re-fry them you want to use some vegetable or canola oil in your pan. Use a slotted spoon to put the bead in the hot oil and then smash the beans. Reserve the liquid because as they cook down they get thicker so you’ll want to add more liquid. They make excellent bean and cheese burritos!
@Alexp07014 жыл бұрын
If you are making them for grownups, sauté some jalapeños in the oil ahead of time until they’re blistered. Take them out completely then mash the beans in the oil. You’ll need to poke and cut the jalapeños so they release some of their flavor into the oil.

@daniellebaskerville26914 жыл бұрын

@debbiebousquet56774 жыл бұрын
As long as u use it within a certain amount of time and depends on what it is.... Just cuz it has a date on it doesn't mean u have to use it b4 that date.... But it does only on certain things.... Some things r good as long as u dont open them either...
@oldtimerlee88204 жыл бұрын
"Best By" dates are NOT expiration dates! They are dates chosen by the processor for the time they consider their product to be of the BEST quality. (There are regulations for how these dates are used on baby foods. Generally, these rules don't apply to other foodstuff.) Example: White rice, properly stored, has a shelf of 30+ years. Yet, the "Best By" date on bags in the store, is about 2 years from the date processed. Over time, there is some nutrition loss. Can be color and/or flavor changes. These don't affect the safety of the food. Properly processed, canned foods (home canned or commercially processed) are safe to eat, as long as the seal isn't broken. As long as the vacuum seal is intact, nothing can get into the container to cause spoilage. Don't take my word for it. Research yourself. Learn how to prolong the shelf life of all the foods you buy. Saves money. Keeps food out of the landfills. And, gives great peace of mind. Hope this helps.

Lucy Rose see here’s the problem: we’re told to stay home Only go out to buy food and supplies that will let you shelter in place comfortably for a few weeks at a time. So that implies loading up on stuff beyond what you normally would buy. This seems to lead to shortages and stores begin to put limits on amounts. So you have to go out more frequently than is recommended And that’s a problem in regards to limiting contact,flattening the curve etc

So storms, natural disasters, it's always good to have on hand extra. Plus, people like my family are always just a couple of paychecks away from being in hardship. There may be a time where we can't afford to go to the grocery store. If I have stocked up, we are good. We can eat. And I always ha e enough to share. I used to coupon like crazy. My mom and niece would come grocery shopping at my house, being that my mom is on a fixed income and my niece was in college. I made sure everyone ate.

Go to a "water" store that sell the big carboys of water, and a pump. Carboy is refillable and great if the well goes dry as happened to many people in 1964, 2019 earthquakes. (I'm sure other areas too, but this is our family history in Anchorage). It's always easy to get non-potable water to flush, or boil to wash in. We do have an outstanding infra-structure that rare let's more than a few hours go by before re-introducing services.

Honey, i live in Argentina. We do not have that huge stores but we buy in bulk and prepare ourselfs for difficult times every time. Do not feel bad for that. And a tip for the beans. If you buy dry beans it would cost you a lot of less and the problem that you have to cook them it will solve with a spoon of baking soda in the water that you soaked them over night. Just make sure that you rinse them and change the water that have the baking soda before you boild them. After 1 hour or 1 and 1/2 hours they will be soft and ready to anything that you want to do with them.
@Carapsych4 жыл бұрын
I put in one or two pounds of pinto beans and I have the water cover them about 3-4 inches. It will foam in the pot so you need some space between the water and lid. I add salt. Then put on manual pressure high for 110 minutes. I do this with the hard bean, not softened. You will see recipes say to do a lot less time, but they will not be done. Do 110. Then release and remove a lot of the water with a spoon and save it. Take an immersion blender and blend. Add some vegetable oil or bacon fat into the pot. Add more of the salty bean water back in to adjust how thick they are. If the water is too salty to add too much back, then use plain water. Check the taste. Beans need a lot of salt. Add salt until they taste right. The immersion blender is the best tool to use. Good luck! It’s easy, if you let it go for 110 min

1lb dried pinto beans 2 cloves garlic, smashed 1/4 onion, quartered 6 cups water 1 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons lard (or oil) You can add cumin or other seasonings but if your beans are old they take longer to cook. I make some every 2 weeks to have beans on hand for eating a bowl of beans adding some hot spice and cheese w/ side tortillas or burritos.

Even before all this chaos I always bulked shopped for our family of 4. We don’t have a ton of storage space so I do try to only buy things I know we’re going to use. Like you toothpaste, tp, paper towels, femine products, soap, lotion, deodarent, etc Plus pantry staples flour, sugar, rice, water, and different canned items. This way if and when things happen, like now you don’t have to rush out right away. You can make things stretch and you will be apart of flattening the curve. The longer we can all go without shopping & exposing one another the better.

refried beans are lovely put the beans in a a pile as much as you think you need, make sure you shift through get out any black beans or beans that look odd or too split you’ll be surprised what you can find in beans lol then put beans in crock pot with water and a bit of salt for around 4 hours or on low overnight then if you want to refry them put them in a pot, stove top pot lol and then mash them like you would potatoes, add salt and pepper to taste, milk and grated cheese too! mash them until they are kinda of soupy but mostly solid, if your beans come out too hard and clumpy they need more milk and cheese if they’re too watery just add more beans from your crock pot.. perfect refried beans every time! good luck

I don't know how long in a Crock-Pot but I know it's about 2 to 4 hours on the stove top. Now for your refried beans you could use those beans that you just cooked you get a skillet or a pan you put oil and then you put your beans but the oil has to be hot. Let them simmer for a little bit once it start boiling reduce your heat and start can smash them with your mashed potato tool. It's real easy.

Don't be embarrassed! We keep a stock pile too! It's a good idea. Plus if anyone is ever sick it's nice to have things on hand and not have to leave! Good job!

You did really good. I have 3 year supply of long term preps. You should stock up on instant potatoes and hash browns. Good job

I wish I had the room to store like that. I would also buy like this but lack of storage doesn’t allow it

Ending up here watching the crazy Costco new clips. This is a lot better, and you guys seem so down to earth. I love down to earth family vlogs, fun to watch. BTW 👋🏼 Hey from the North Georgia Mountains. I shop once a month, so I have at least a months worth of food. On top of the stuff I can and hydrate myself. Also I always have backup luxury items (TP, PT, Napkins, Soaps, Shampoo, Cleaners). Things I learned from experience as a military brat. I’ve been in typhoons, earthquakes, and blizzards. Also we are a Scout Family, so we have the gear to camp it out.

I don’t think your weird. I think it’s so good that you guys are prepared for anything. It’s smart. Specially when you have little children. If I had a house and a pantry or cold storage I’d do the same. I love hauls keep them coming.

Just came across your Chanel and subscribed. Watching from Scotland in the UK . Great that your building up your pantry. And store room. Wish we had the space of a basement in our homes here but sadly no. So my pantry is a larder cupboard. Lol but it plenty for me . Love Costco. I'd never be out it . Great selection of foods . Xxxx

I think you need to add a big bag of rice. And for cooking beans... Sort and pick beans over. (Look for snall rocks obviously deformed beans and little sticks) then soak overnight in fridge in cold water. Drain beans and cover by at least 1 inch with freshwater and bring to a rolling boil for at least ten minutes. Then turn to a very low simmer until soft. (Depending on the type this can be anywhere from 40 min to 3 hrs) This will work for almost any bean. But dont use this method for lentils. You can freeze the cooked beans in 2 cup units after cooking which is a huge time saver if you make a big batch. And never skip the boiling step with Kidney beans. Skipping it could make you ill.

Gatorade or Powerade very good for all ages if you get sick and dehydrated the electrolytes in them help a lot. I’ve always given my kids it. Great video you definitely won’t have to shop for awhile with that haul. I love watching you guys keep up the great work.

Me and my husband are doing the same thing but we’re just getting started right now. Good ideal on all those items. Costco is the best but for just us two Walmart is better.

Low reserves of grains will result in low reserves of dog foods. GET SOME DOG FOOD! LOL! Great job on the pantry!! Nothing like shopping for dinner from your own well stocked pantry!

Green bean tip: Warm them up on the stove drain them and add a piece of kraft American cheese and they are green beans dreams are made of (maybe not the healthiest but everything in moderation right?)

Love your Costco vlogs always. I don't have one around me, but my go-to stores here in southern illinois are Sam's and Aldi's
