I would absolutely love to see more updates on Aquazone / Space!!

You're in luck! Already working on the next one 😅. I don't expect these videos to do well on my channel since most of my subscribers are here for trains. This channel is a hobby and I just post what I'm having fun with. Which is currently Aquazone 😁

It's cool to see that every Lego fan has their own favourite Lego theme from when they were a kid. I am a few years older than you, I was just in my dark ages when Aquazone came out!
@BatteryPoweredBricks
@BatteryPoweredBricks 5 ай бұрын
Yep! I liked tons of themes in the 90's but Aquazone always stood out as my favorite. I never went fully dark, just dim. I had some of the smaller Aquazone sets as a kid and then got all of the larger ones when I got my first job on eBay. Luckily I never had the urge to get rid of all my Lego when I wasn't using them much

What a wonderful idea. For me, Aquazone was the highlight of the Lego's golden era of mid-1990s. You speak to my soul, Brian. On my side - I have no time for anything (small kids), so I am looking forward to your project coming along. What I find amazing is that your Lego interest are almost perfectly aligned with mine - monorail, trains, Aquazone, RC Technic. Keep it coming, please!

Thanks for the comment! I think the best part of creating this KZbin channel is all the people I've met with similar interests. I can't wait to see where this project goes

@BatteryPoweredBricks I can't wait either, as the Aquanauts Discovery Lab(?) was one of my absolute favourite sets as a kid, and I remember the range so vividly! It brings back so many good memories seeing those parts, MOCs and so on. You've got another subscriber right here. Can't wait to see some updates, but in the meantime there's a back catalogue to peruse! 😁

The Neptune Discovery Lab was one of my first eBay purchases when I got my first job 😁. The plan for now is to release Aquazone updates every other week so I can keep some train content coming since that's what most people are subscribed for. I've already been surprised by how well this video was received and how much crossover there is with train fans so maybe I'm worrying too much 😅

Oh wow, this video speaks to my soul. I've been collecting these exact parts for nearly a decade (though I've slowly sold some through my BL store). I have stacks of ~10+ of the raised baseplates, transparent dark blue quarter domes + large panels, who knows how many of the smaller panels + yellow chunky support style parts. The yellow modified bricks are mostly cheap and incredibly useful for filling up bulk for structure. I have literal pounds of them in preparation to use as supports for the monorail in my layout. I've built a few small MOCs that fit within 1-2 baseplates to practice and emulate the general 90s style (nothing round / curved, plenty of angular chunk, black plates for baseline, yellow brick for structure, trans-neon orange for flair, plenty of studs showing). I actually built a workbench (with my ryobi tools also!) with dimensions of 2 x 6 ft which just barely fits 2.5 x 7 baseplates (using 32x32 studs as a unit). There is a tiny overhang on the width for the 2.5 baseplates as the 32x32 are ~10x10 inches. I have a very small house, so space is incredibly valuable especially considering I need separate storage systems for both my store AND personal collection. With space footprint in mind, I plan to utilize the vertical space as much as I can. I hope I can share some of my progress one day, and I'll be looking forward to seeing yours too! Finally getting to use my collection of monorail and aquazone parts will be a blast. It's been a dream since I was a child (the Neptune base was the most influential set of my childhood), and getting to combine it with a monorail is the goal.

Awesome! Glad to see this video has already found a few fellow Aquazone fans. When I got my first job at 16 I bought all the old Aquazone sets on eBay, the prices were much better back then 😅. Also scooped up some monorail around 2016 or so in various lots. I still only had 4 straight pieces but as I showed in my recent 4D Brix haul that won't be a problem anymore. I'd love to see some updates on what you are building, If you are a discord user we have a great group of folks in there and I think they'd like to see it too 😀

I'm on the edge of my seat to see if this project comes to fruition as well 😅. For this project I am holding back on more complex automation and using stuff from existing sets as well, just to give it more of a fighting chance. When it comes to MOCing I've always done best with Aquazone

Wow! You go deep on the first haul for a new project. Seeing those old pictures reminds me of when I got back into Star Wars in 1992 after seeing a Zahn Thrawn Trilogy book display at a B. Dalton store. I had to also purchase the RPG books from West End Games and build Star Wars vehicles from the LEGO that I had back then (that was something I never stopped building with as a teenager) and finally was able to take pictures of my builds. Hopefully you can find yours share them on multiple platforms.🤘👍👽

I had been saving up parts for many years but only had 4 of the raised baseplates. Looking around at the prices they are going for I knew this would be my last shot before they are just too expensive to justify them. I don't think I ever built any substantial Star Wars MOCs but I was a big fan. I used to get the books on tape from the library and listen to them while building 😁. Still do... just not on cassette 😅

Sure tiling off everything and having tons of greebling is cool and all, but those old Aquazone mocs by Mutant Manfred are just so much more appealing. It actually LOOKS like Lego AND you could easily see Lego releasing them as sets (although obviously the bigger the moc the more sets it'd be broken into).

Hurts me a little bit how you treat your transparent panels... just shoving them aside... I don't think we'll ever get more of those parts, especially the quarter domes and the corner pieces so I always treat those very carefully... but of course I do hope that e.g. Gobricks may be able/allowed to produce those one day... Apart from that, cool project. I always loved the Aquazone theme as well! :)

Yeah I guess I should have been a bit more careful with them, most of them were already heavily scratched which is why I got a good deal on them. This project has been a ton of fun, even when I'm done I may take it apart and start another Aquazone project from the ground up 😁. I wish I had the space to just keep expanding it

Yeah Mahj really knocked it out of the park with his Friends Switcher locomotive. We saw a couple early iterations in our discord and couldn't wait for him to finish the project. It was a little while back so I can't remember if I got the idea to do a Maersk version from him or from the space builders for Friendshiptember. Still might have to do that someday

Something in this size dimension i am currently building for the UFO (97) aliens. I bought most of my stuff from Ebay and used Lego shops. So i am also buying pieces in specific colors - in my case grey, dark grey, black and transneongreen. If you come to north Germany one day, i know all shops there.

I'm debating on it. I have some of the pieces and may be able to get help with decals and such. I'm also thinking about making something of my own. Mutant-Manfred, the builder I showed some pictures from in the video, also has many monorail designs that could server as inspiration

I'm not against it, I will for sure be using some SNOT techniques in my build. But I do feel like some builders can be snobby about builds that aren't "advanced" enough 😅. I can appreciate pretty much any build style
