Impressive haul. I can see how many of those books would be difficult to pass up. I will be interested in what you think of The Lost World. I read it as a kid and loved it. I read it again in the last year or so. It held up well. I found it quite thrilling. I am amongst those Americans who had not heard of Maigret. I believe I got a notification that you reviewed it in a recent video. I will view that video soon. Happy reading.

Thanks Stuart. I think you have read more books than me. The Lost world looks great. Perhaps Maigret is not so well known in the US. As a detective it is kind of between Agatha Christie and Raymond Chandler I think with an obvious French flavour. Some are better than other but atmospheric. Feeling the pressure if you try and don't like them now Stuart, ha ha! I'll do a video soon and read the first page in a kind of try before you buy!

The ever growing tbr! So much to enjoy. I spent about five weeks reading the Count of Monte Cristo earlier this year and had to tell my mind to stop wanting to hurry for other books that were piling up! Best wishes.

Wow, Impressive! You have some fine reading there. "Recovering from Fatal Crash" too funny. Nice westerns with cool covers. Beowulf, an English classic that we studied in high school. Also studied in HS was 1066. We were required to learn a lot of British history and Literature. But I've never heard of Maigret. Yes. You really scored on this book haul. -James

I think Maigret must not be big in the US. In France probably as big as Agatha Christie in England I think. I will do a video soon and read out an opening page so that people can try before the buy! Best wishes to you.

@@ReadingIDEAS.-uz9xk reading a bit of this and a bit of that today. I’m reading Shakespeare’s King Lear right now. Our read-along of the banned book A Court of Thorns and Roses has started today, and I read the first 8 chapters of that too. Now, a short story or two for Shorty September. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. 😊

too many?! If you have shelf space you didn't get too many. 😁📚 How can you beat the price? I like the covers of the western books. That's cool having the picture continue to the back cover. Well done on the Proust. I've not read anything by him and when I look for his books, they're expensive here in the states. I heard his work is online, but I can't read long pdf's/ebooks. I need to find a cheap copy like you did. If you're interested in a buddyread on Can you forgive her, let me know. I have that book and haven't read it.

I’m a big fan of the Maigret books. Most of them got reissued by Penguin a few years back and I bought around ten or twelve of them over a two-year period. I also got a few non Maigret books by Simenon as well. Some of them are a bit dated in their attitudes and politics, which is understandable, given how old the books are, but I enjoyed them a lot. I don’t think there were any I didn’t enjoy on some level. Most of them are quite slim too, so I could read a couple of books a week. My favourite was The Flemish House, which was really atmospheric and visual in its storytelling. I’ve also been swayed by Days at the Morisaki Bookshop. I don’t normally buy a lot of new/contemporary fiction, but I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for this recently. I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, but I am looking forward to it.
