Thanks for posting this vidoe this is great!!! It's very similar to the 150 HP 1915 one we have at Kelham Island museum which worked at George Clarks steelworks on Penistone Rd in Sheffield till 1970 . I remember when It ran on gas but sadly no more, I think It was due to a leakage in the cooling jacket so the cylinder head was over-heating It's now run on an electric motor but still requires compressed air to turn It over It's great to see another fine example of a Crossley engine.

Somehow I never knew Crossley made engines this big. What is the rated HP, dimensions, and age?
@EngineVids11 ай бұрын
Just seen your comment sorry, as for the size i dont know atm just that it is massive😅, the hp is around 40 odd hp from what i remember. Age im sure is 1920s, next time i am there i will try and get more info and update the description 😎

Love the watering can hung from the purlins.. Fuel or lube oil?.. Bit heavy with the easy start too..
@EngineVids10 ай бұрын
I think its fuel, the engine had a leak so he used the easystart just to start it for the visitors.

What a machine! Lovely sound. I am curious if it was operating at its normal rated speed, or if the speed was reduced for the demonstration? How fast was id designed to run under working load?
@EngineVids9 ай бұрын
Im not sure about the speed unfortunately, i will try and check when im next there and update the description 😎

It sounds like a 4 stroke engine, only steam applied every second stroke?
@EngineVids Жыл бұрын
Hi, it's a 4 stroke diesel. It uses compressed air to turn the engine over, once its spinning the diesel is ignited and runs like a normal diesel engine 😎.
@Stefan_Boerjesson Жыл бұрын
@@EngineVids Thanks! Haha. Don't know why but assumed a steam engine, likely due to the heavy fly wheel.

@@Stefan_Boerjesson ahh😅, there are massive steam engines at the museum too😎.
