Massive Diamonds That Positively Impact People Around the World

The Balancing Act studio welcomes Steve Lincoln of Lucara Diamonds and Karen Rentmeesters of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre, who discuss three enormous diamonds that have helped to bring economic stability for the people of Botswana.
First, Steve presents replicas of the three most massively impressive diamonds ever discovered by Lucara, replicas of three Lucara Diamonds found in the Karowe Mine in Botswana. The first one, a 342-carat behemoth, was found in a rough in 2015 and sold for a whopping $20 million. It actually was known as the Garden of the Kalahari, became the Queen of the Kalahari, and it was actually worn by Charlize Theron at last year's Oscars ceremony.
The second monster diamond is worth $63.1 million and weighs an astonishing 813 carats. The third, and largest, diamond is called Lesedi La Rona, which translates to "our light," weighs 1,109 carats. So in total, the three diamonds add up to a staggering $130 million.
A little-known fact is that Lucara gives back 55% of the revenue it earns from diamonds to the people of Botswana; because of the diamond industry, every child in Botswana receives a free education.
