Massive Green Fish! The epic fishing session begins. If you watched Part 1 then you will have seen Graeme's setup for his solo night attempt at catching some big Tench. With all the traps of his baits and old school techniques in place the hours of darkness see him invaded by the hard fighting Green fish, the Tench...He had thought he might get a bit of sleep through the night but his bait sends the fish potty, and he spends the entire night sat up in his old fishing chair, right beside his favourite Avon rods so he could strike instantly at any bites. Although tiring, his stamina for staying by the rods paid off handsomely as he had constant action. Finally, just after dawn he has to hit the bivvy for some rest, but what a fish-catching session he had...Sit back and enjoy Part 2 of the GREEN FISH film!!

I love the “you’re not supposed to smile if you catch a big fish”. I grin like a child everytime !!!! It’s supposed to be fun. Best fishing channel on KZbin. No airs /graces or tackle/equipment/bait promotions. Pure honest bloke enjoying his fishing and passing on his tips. I love it.

Awesome session, Graeme, and a real chunk of a tench! I live in Australia and fish the ocean rocks for Eastern rock blackfish aka 'pigs' (not to be confused with luderick - blackfish). Like tench, they have a paddle like tail which they use to dive down into their caves once hooked. You remind me so much of my great uncle Jack - an incredibly successful and practical fisherman who like you, could build anything and was handy with his hands.

Graham. Your videos continue to inspire me as a father of two young lads. We love your old school techniques which I and the lads are still using... I started fishing in the early 80s. I'm still a fan on the 2p piece on the open spool which drops into an old saucapan lid on the take. Keep up the super work. You're a true legend in our pastime/sport. Thank you

Great tenching session! I use to love tench fishing as a kid, way before catching carp we'd fish for rudd, roach and tench! They fight beautifully, yeah ledgering for tench. The goodold days🤣, no bivvy no bite alarms an old hand me down rods, totally unsuitable and absolutely too long 13" if I remember correctly. And tackle bought along bait with whatever pocket money I managed to get my hands on! Again brilliant video brought back so many good memories. Thanks for taking the time to make the video! Cheers Andy 👍

Mate and I had a change from the usual and went Tench fishing. Threw out a gallon of dead maggots and fished a boilie over the top. We didn't sleep all night. Just as we got the rod set up from the last one, the other rod would go off. It was me or him with with another Tench. In the end, about 06:00 we pulled the rods in and got some kip before the drive home. Some of the biggest Tench we'd ever seen. Cracking video mate. Brought back memories of a similar night

Now that was totally awesome and came with Gourmet food, lots of old school tips (instead of silver paper I used ring pulls of a coke cans occasionally weighted with a small shot). My best session was on Tring Reservoirs circa 1968 and that was 4 Tench all in the morning 5 - 6am biggest about 4lbs and I considered myself blessed. What you must have felt like I can't think. Had a nice little Tinca the other day out of a local stretch of disused canal, gave me a nice scrap on a light rod fishing the float, had a cracking roach over a lb too. Love those old school bobbins, before I had bite alarms and all that jazz I used to hang corks on a bent paperclip and they worked a treat, still use them occasionally when I want a lighter bobbin. I find tench tend to fight better pound for pound compared to most carp, had a double figure Tinca out of an old pit lake that fought like a demon, had my 3lb shimano carp rod flat out with braided line for a brutal fight to keep him out of the weeds. Next fishing quest is a monster barbel out my local river. Thanks for sharing.

Those mainline expanders will float if use them straight from the bag, they need to be put in water to go soft then they will sink. Some other expander pellets you need to pump them in a special pump you can get in tackle shops, to get them to sink. Pole anglers use them alot and carp do love expander pellets. Best tip for mainline 1s is when get to your peg put some in water and just leave them and by time setup they will be ready to rock, plus need to be keeped in water at all times. P.s try adding liquids to the water 👍

Great overnighter there Graeme, lovely Tench there and nice to see you to see you nice! I fished at a fishery called Buzzards Valley yesterday and I had ten Tench and two Barbel. My mate had ten Barbel, two Tench and a decent Bream. We fished a pool there called the Hawk pool and it's mostly Tench and Barbel, I recommend it it's near Tamworth. No Carp in there so the Tench and Barbel are thriving. It's a narrow canal style pool, I cage feeder fished it with groundbait and pellets mixed together with 8mm pellet as hook bait though I did try luncheon meat. My mate fished
@cns180784
@cns180784 3 жыл бұрын
Luncheon meat the whole session, it could be the Barbel prefer the meat to pellet or it could just be the swims we were fishing and what fish were out in front of us. Be great if you fancied the drive and do a shoot there, i recommend you fish the opposite end to the car park where it widens, its upto about 14ft deep so not shallow. Cracking place.

Interesting that you put barbel down as a native/natural species when in truth they're only native to a few rivers in england. Barbel are originally native to the river Rhine and all its various deltas and tributaries across europe, back during the last ice age when sea levels were much lower the english channel was a fertile valley of the Rhine known as the Doggerland and all of the major south east coast (Thames, Arun, Avon, Exe & Tamar) were all connected to it. As such, these are the only native homes of barbel in the UK due to populations of the species getting trapped on our island as the ice melted and sea levels rose. The rivers we associate these days with barbel, the Wye, Severn, Trent and Ouse weren't stocked with them until the late 50s/early 60s, my recently departed father often talked about the EA turning up with trucks full of them and releasing them into the Severn and Trent near where he lived as a boy to restock the rivers after all the industrial pollution incidents had emptied the rivers. I believe they got into the Wye via anglers catching them out of the Severn and then releasing them illegally into the nearest section of the Wye. Carp have a much longer history in the UK than most people realise going back as far as the 1450s when they were imported from dutch fish farms via france by appointment of the crown. They were recognised as an extremely good livestock as they were hardy, grew relatively large, relatively quickly and could live in the most rudimentary of muddy ponds. The story about being brought across by monks is neither here nor there in that it certainly would have been a food source for the clergy but they definitely weren't the originators of the species in the UK. As for how king carp, which are a south east asian species, got into europe remains a bit of a mystery but best estimates suggest that during the last ice age of some 12000 years ago a group of carp which lived in the marshy delta that now forms the black sea and mediterranean got separated from their asian siblings and made their home in the Danube as the sea level rose. Around 2000 years ago the romans started getting nervous about their neighbours to the north and started building forts along the Danube where they discovered that the native shoals of carp were A) delicious B) fast/easy to grow. As such they started exporting them all across the empire as a way to feed the populace and the carp did what carp do best and spread like wildfire across the continent and by 400AD they were common in rivers and lakes from the black sea in the east to the atlantic in the west. Carp populations in the UK dwindled somewhat as human population and trade increased and people moved away from self sufficient farming and hunting, they still existed in many ponds and rivers across the country but had gained a bit of a reputation for being almost uncatchable. One of the most famous stockings of carp in recent history was done by a gentlemen called Donald Leney of surrey, he spent a good number of years learning from the dutch (who have always been recognised as masters of their craft) how to selectively breed fish to enhance certain characteristics. He bred and stocked his own strain of fish into a number of ponds across the 20's and 30's which proved to be extremely long lived (many reaching over 70 years old) and grew to enormous sizes by the time that pioneering anglers such as Richard Walker came along in the 50s and started catching them at enormous sizes and laid the seeds for the modern obsession as we know it today. A lot of these fish unfortunately died as a result of poor management, illegal movement, industrial progress taking away their homes and disease so by the 80s these magnificent creatures and their descendants were all but gone just as the hobby was starting to gain traction so a big push was made to import ready grown fish from europe and arabia, set up breeding ponds to supply the next generation. The ready availability of carp and relatively low price meant that they were no longer the preserve of mad men chasing a handful of big fish in an inland sea and they started appearing in more and more pleasure fisheries which like it or hate it, revitalised the coarse fishing industry in the UK and took it from a niche hobby to something that could be easily accessed in almost every town across the uk. I remember the days when the banks were quiet and you had to know someone who knew someone who knew something to get near good fishing let alone have the knowledge to make the most of it and while I do remember it with that wistful haze of yesteryear I also remember expensive, hard to get hold of tackle and bait, hours spent trying to put clues together trying to find some piece of water you heard might contain the fish you were looking for only to eventually get there and either find a dried up puddle or the wrong end of a farmers shotgun. I miss elements of the old days but there are certainly things that are much better today. Sorry, bit of an essay but thought you might find some of it interesting
