I would say you’re probably correct in your identification of those Carp (from an angler with 60+yrs of experience). Almost certainly the bigger ones are Crucians (another giveaway with the humped back are the red/orange fins). Of course there’s no mistaking the Mirror Carp, & the shape of the others suggests Common Carp. Fantastic that you’re doing your bit towards conservation of the fish & giving them a chance in life. Well done👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎣

I did this kind of fish rescue many times. Once i even had a pool that had been cut of the river after a heavy floo receeded. Ther were even a hand full of small greylings and trout and perch among other species. I bet the second pool was nearly fish free as most fish had died by lack of oxigen and sometimes there are even poisonous algaes growing: I remember when an aquarium full of carp babies that my brother had used for a school study collapsed and all carps died in less than an hour. They would even die after transferring them into chrystal clear water. I remember how my little brother was crying seeing what happened to his fish. You have quite an advantage having a giant net and the fact that your boots do not sink in two feet in the mud with every step!

I don't think I have ever seen a better example of the effect that environmental damage is causing our water systems. The incredible difference between the two water areas shows just how important it is for our waterways, lakes etc to be kept free of pollution. If cats and dogs were being affected in the same way our fish are there would be a bloody riot.

Great video. I’d suggest when the river flooded one area got a bit of oxygenator weed flushed into it, the other area not just a high dose of hit rates from the field. Hence one supported so many carp and small fish

Great job! That weed was infested with insect life too. Outwardly a perfectly heathy body of water. I did wonder if, in the rather stagnant pool, the fish were able to outrun you with your net, rather than in the weedy pool where they probably darted into the weed on your approach? Sticklebacks need love too y'know. The rivers near me that were full of them 50 years ago are lifeless now. Well done!
@phy7dop5 ай бұрын
Nice. I wonder if the mirrors had spawned in the puddle. The few lakes I know where the carp manage to spawn successfully (in the UK where I fish) are all shallow. I think they need the shallow water for it to get warm enough. The suspected cruicians however are too big to be this years fry, so I guess they must have got in there some other way.
@Berniegraph6 ай бұрын
Well done on the rescue mission - great work. Yes, the larger ones definitely look like Crucians to me. A mystery where they came from. Assume the Commons and Mirrors were from a flooded fishery? With the river flooding, would you expect more other coarse fish like Roach or Bream to have been washed in?
@ChimitsuCorner6 ай бұрын
Well done on the rescues! Though I did keep wondering how many more sticklebacks you would of caught if you used minnow traps 😆

Hi Chris, I think you’re right with identifying the crucians , but generally biggest clues, in the field, are lack of barbules and a convex dorsal fin, but I think I’m right in saying the only definitive test for a true cru is a DNA sample, otherwise brown goldfish or hybrids are always a possibility. Keep up the good work and Tight Lines.
