👋 Hi. Good to see a young person getting into music i remember from the past. I had Gerry Rafferty's City to City album on vinyl back in 1978. The first single lifted off it titled Baker Street is a classic. I was 18 years young in 1978. I had the pleasure of seeing David Bowie in concert here in New Zealand that year. My sister saw the group The Bay City Rollers here in 1976. I like their big hit Saturday Night which was released that year and topped the American Billboard charts too. I like Blondie , and that's cool finding the American Gigolo movie soundtrack. I have seen Laurie Anderson in concert , she visited NZ in 1986. She was fantastic and i love her quirky music. She was married to Lou Reed when he was alive. Miles Davis i saw too in the 1980s , he was in his sixties at the time. His back up band were very funky , as he was promoting his album Tutu which and a funk sound. Well you have done well there , and it should give you hours of listening pleasure. From Carl.

Nice channel! Spent all my teens and part of my twentees, I fell in love with punk/new wave actually around 1979, I was about 12. Bay City Rollers: Ned's Atomic Dustbin, does a cool verision of Saturday Night. Sadly, last time I had a turntable was about 1992. I'm planing a new high-fi, looking forward to playing albums again. Laurie Anderson! Big Science, Mister Heartbreak, are both faves.

Hello Geraldine. Your channel is a lot of fun! I noticed that you said that The Kinks Greatest Hits was your first Kinks record. I own a really beat up copy of that, but I heartily recommend their Kink Kronikles. It is more a curated collection of their best songs through 1970 as opposed to their greatest hits. It is the record that made me love their music. That WB/Reprise Songbook compilation album is part of their "Loss Leaders" series meant to showcase all their artists - you can tell that real music lovers at the label put these together. They advertised these for mail order on the inner sleeves on most of their albums at the time. Carry on!

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll definitely look out for it! 😊

A few records I have are Missing Persons, General Public; if you find anything pretty much by the Beat or The English Beat--snag it. They will have either, or both, Dave Wakeling and/or Ranking Roger--the founders of The English Beat on them--so many good Ska songs. Extra snaps for diving into jazz--( Jazz for some is an acquired taste, but worth the while).
