We have finally finished the rear of the Rad Charger and I think we are happy with what we’ve gone with.
These Chevy 63” leaf springs are the longest leaf springs I’ve seen so here is hoping the ride will be flawless.
Can’t wait to weigh the dirt from the skid plate…. Remember to leave your answer in the comments and thank you always for watching.

Hollie, please make sure you are throwing sparks on your hands when using an angle grinder!! That way the grinder goes away from you if it catches or the wheel breaks. Ask me how I know.

I did that 63" leaf swap on an 83 RC about 20 years ago. I covered it for Offroad Exchange at the time and the CAD bracket templates and parts numbers for everything you need is still up on their site.

Looking great Holly and Rudy! We just converted one of our ramchargers to chevy 63s in the rear also. Gave us about an 8” rear stretch. Used front chevy leaf hangers and shackles in a compression orientation as well.

Rudy, it takes about a millisecond for a grinding wheel to explode while being used. In such a case safety goggles are a pretty good friend. Holly, at least you're wearing glasses, but goggles would be much better.

I would move that rear bracket forward a few inches and make longer shackles. 45* angle on the shackle will give you the most travel and comfort

I had two different brands of angle grinder blades from HF blow up on me within 5 minutes this week. I was cutting a piece of angle iron similar in size to the steel you were cutting. Fortunately, I was wearing a face shield.

@MischiefMakerTV love seeing the progression of your fab skills! Im im the structural steel industry. One tip using the wheel of death (cut off wheel) always try and have the sparks shoot at you so when the grinder kicks it will go away instead of towards you.

I’ve been on 63’s (technically 64’s if you are shopping new but we all call them 63’s) since 2006, first set lasted 12 years. Looks like you have the 4-1 packs (four leafs plus overload), save that overload spring because they will settle a bit, you can cut it down to a reasonable length of 7” and reinstall it like a zero rate add a leaf.

We pulled these from a rig that was in Paul from fabrats Yard that was headed off to scrap (literally hours after we pulled them 🤣). And your comment came at the perfect time!! We were debating on whether or not to keep and modify the overload springs! Thanks for the tip 😊🤘🏻

YES PLEASE! Did a safety investigation a few years back where a guy had a disc explode and gash his face. Ended up with a few stitches but he had safety glasses on, face shield would’ve been better. Another point, which I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir, but make sure your disc’s rpms match the tool’s. Also, with pneumatic tools, make sure you’re regulating the air to match the tool. Not a big deal with most tools but definitely something to mind with high rpms.

This is just a kindly comment, not intended as a troll. Hoping to help you in your build. Im jealous that I cannot do that stuff anymore. I used to have loads of fun building projects. You guys need to adjust the wire feed speed to a nice fine sound ... Too much harsh spatter sound means either your too hot to balance the feed with the temp/amp settings or feed is too slow. This is coming from an old man who spent 20+ years welding everything under the sun 🤣 P.S. 6.75 lbs 😊

Twice i have had coworkers blow their hands apart with a grinder. One was a slip and lost thumb. Other was a shatter with no guard or handle. Full palm and digit mangle. I absorbed more than one into my leathers. Guard saves hand. But i did hours a day everyday grinding. So no chances. Every case has a few that just fail and come apart. Less than 1% yeah. But don't trust them for build quality. Even the nice ones blow up. Grinders are the careeer enders.

Loving the build! Mounting the springs under the frame would of helped with articulation. Leverage… Doubt perches will work in stocks location due to short wheelbase but shackle reversal should help. Check out trail mater design for rear traction bar real nice design.
