Wow! Diesel air brakes. Yet still chain driven. Amazing truck.

Imagine a truck that big that can carry that much (i know those were fake) and be chain driven

Great looking Mack! One big brute of a truck! When did Mack discontinue the chain drive system.?! It's interesting if you take a closer look at the cab you can see hints of the B model and other model Mack truck's that within 15 year's would succeed this model!

Tom Ok I have a book that says the chain final drive was a rough terrain / heavy spec option up into the 50’s

Not made for highway use at all. Besides the chain drive, there are no mirrors on the right side, and only a minuscule round mirror on the left side. It was probably intended to spend its life working in a quarry and not traveling far when on actual roads. Does anyone know, were the tandem axles connected by chain drive as well, or was there some sort of geared inter-axle differential present?

Big ol Truck for 1943. I imagine this truck was an off road unit working in mines or quarries. Thought for a moment he was going to dump a load of boulders there but I imagine those are not real boulders.

Who makes those steer tires? Also, are wheels that large highway applicable or are they mainly for mining/off road purposes?

hard to imagine chains is stronger than shafts and gears. back about 1960 i watched chaindrive Scammells hauling 300 ton transformers up long hill with exhaust like steam train!

Ik i can't believe chains can move huge trucks like that
@rosewhite---4 жыл бұрын
@@pablocobb5343 It did occur to me that the chains actually pull on a very big rear sprocket that works like a bike in low derailleur gear with little pressure on pedals putting little strain on the chain.
@rosewhite---4 жыл бұрын
@owen bevans No it is not. Tanks tracks is really big solid pieces. Chain drives for big trucks is quite thin and light. And loading is the reverse of a bicycle derailleur in high gear.

I didn't think they had many diesel trucks in 43. Or is it a gasser?
@Dailydieseldose3159 жыл бұрын
justfakeit888 This one might be a gasser. There was another FCSW at the show with a Cummins HNRS.
@TheMetalButcher9 жыл бұрын
It seemed mighty clean for a diesel, but had fairly black smoke at one shot. I'm not quite familiar with the HNRS.

@Dailydieseldose3159 жыл бұрын
mightyjoe11722 Check out ATHS.org and their sister organization the ATCA www.antiquetruckclubofamerica.org/ The national show moves around each year but there are plenty of chapters shows all around the country nearly all year long.

It looks like there is a 5 inch round mirror on the driver's side but the arm I'd too short to see around the body Cab is the same as a LJ. Chain drive was long preferred by construction operators as it has better ground clearance than a truck with a diff. Also it is easier to change sprockets to adopt to a different job than to change the ratio in a diff.
