The bowling side pulled it out of the bag. Despite your struggles the videos are still entertaining. I had a howling season like that once and in the end the selectors did me the biggest favour by letting me pillage easier runs and regain my confidence in the seconds for the rest of my season. The following year was one of my best for the 1st's - at a pretty decent standard. I would start tryign to use that sweep that you spent so much time learning in India - a new shot option may ring the change???

The struggle up until that lovely cut shot was a journey and a half! I'm not sure, but from your perspective cam it feels like your body position is a little cramped up, it might just be form and lack of confidence but especially when the ball is coming back into you on a good or just short of a good length. The lefty was bowling wheels and it is natural when the ball they are digging it up into your ribs across you. But the other guy was bowling such juicy length little out swingers and I could feel your body position was really causing you to drag a lot of the motions you have with your wrists and you couldn't get it away, even a pressure release noodle across the line into the on side if you can open up and move your feet a bit more (not just charge lol). All of this is probably just another post of noise, but I can feel the grind you're on mate especially in the first person. Keep working hard, try and get a little looser in the hips and opened up a bit more. 👍
@tysondog8434 ай бұрын
That's actually a good pick up. I've retired from playing now, but I had the same issue, and simply opening up my stance a bit made a big difference. I Loved the cut and off drive, but opening up my stance opened the on-drive and more control over the pull shot, where I felt I had more time. Your point about the ball coming back in was true for me, and opening up my stance a little made that delivery a Lot more comfortable to play. I was feeling cramped up, and your point about the wrists made me remember, that's what I was doing. I was trying to use my wrists to hit the ball too square. You gave good advise, I hope Gareth reads it.

G'day mate. Just a question are you ever under any selection stress? Is there a weekly selection meeting or anyone pressing from the 2nds? Not just you but the other boys not scoring runs? Just asking from a coaching point of view and also interested to hear if you have any 'low runs grace period' before you get the tap?
@Debbiebabe694 ай бұрын
At this level of cricket, 'selection stress' for someone batting top 4 in a premier team is pretty none existent. Teams usually struggle for 1st team standard players these days but have plenty of 2s or below standard. He is good enough to stay in the 1s, even if it means dropping down as low as 8 or 9 - or even all the way to jack. The only way hes going in the twos is if he asks the skipper himself.

@charitharanasingha4 ай бұрын
My 2 cents :) I can see when you get stuck you are trying to block the ball a lot, I think instead, try to get some different ways to get runs like moving in the crease or coming down the pitch (If the keeper is not up) etc to make sure the bowler will not keep bowling to the same areas and you keep blocking, so that's a way you can get a single and make sure you are rotating the strike and get rid of the dot ball pressure :). Because I used to play like that sometimes ago with the idea that I could catch up those dot balls later, but once it reaches some point then when I'm trying to go for big shots to catch them, and since I have been on the crease for sometimes the fitness level also low at that point so my big shots were not that much effective as it is and getting out, so then I realized to keep busy at the crease after first 4-5 balls and it worked out well. BTW I am not a pro player 😄 to advice you, but just thought to let you know to try this method :)

you gotta watch those out swingers and cutters like at 6:25 cuz those were close to getting your nick. I would suggest maybe moving your head a bit more forward so that you're not so much reaching out with your hand and bat in front and rather have it closer to under your chin. That way, if it cuts out or stays straight, you can have more control with your bat and respond accordingly. Just a suggestion, try it out in the nets! Keep working hard, big tons are nearby!

Gareth, I believe you need to forget about strike rates and enjoy playing your game, which is not to hit the leather off everything, but to bat long. If you finish an innings with a strike rate of 60-70, and you have posted a half century or more, that will be more than good enough in your team, as you have more than enough power players to complement you. It's OK sometimes to be 10 off 40. If you finish 60/70 off 100/110, you will have anchored very nicely for your team. Forget strike rates. Multiple half centuries with the odd century in a season will contribute to your team winning more games. The more you listen to all the negative comments about strike rate, the more youwill tighten up and repeat a nightmare at the crease. Just enjoy batting.
