Microbiologist here, Trypanorhyncha plerocercoid is a very common parasite on this fish and is harmless to humans, THERE ARE NO WORM EGGS ON THE FLESH OF THE FISH, you can just remove the worm and the fish would be completely safe to eat, of course, I understand most people would find it repulsive. Love the channel! Best regards from Tijuana México.
@robertschneider19774 жыл бұрын
Agreed. We normally will just pull the worms and cook as normal. No issues.

Wonderful to hear. When I was younger my granddad caught a big blue while surf fishing and the meat had black and white spots in it plus worms so we threw it out. Do you have a resource that fishermen can go to figure out what is bad and what is not bad as far as parasites go? I've heard if you cook meat well enough you can kill the parasites anyway. Once I saw the chinese guy who complained of itchy skin and they found worms covering his body head to toe from eating sushi I stopped eating sushi immediately.
@patriotpioneer4 жыл бұрын
Nitro, thanks for the post! Any Idea What Exactly Causes the Fish to have Worms in the first place?
@thelostsparten4 жыл бұрын
@@John_Conner222 in most cases from what ive seen, if a fish has parasitic worms and is going to be used for sushi, it must be frozen at or below a certain temp and for a minimum amount of time. This ensures the worms are killed and are harmless. I remember the story you are talking about and the issue was the prep needed wasnt done. That being said cooking the meat will kill them as well much like how when you cook any meat it kills bacteria. To be as safe as possible the freezing and cooking should ensure that they are dead and harmless. That being said I am no expert and am only relaying information that I am aware of.
@nitrobenceno76894 жыл бұрын
@@patriotpioneer well this worms are pretty much like human flatworms (Taenia solium) that we could get by eating infected undercooked pork meat. In this case, the cycle is like this first there's a shark that has the adult form of the worm in it's intestines, the worm produces eggs that are expelled with the shark's feces, little crustaceans eat the feces infected with eggs, then a small fish eat the crustacean, the amberjack eats the small fish and gets the worm into it's flesh, finally a shark eats the amberjack getting the worm and begining a new cycle.

Hey Rob! Jimmy from Boynton.. I have caught a lot of sea trout and they were full of worms.. I found that when you first filet the fish if you run fresh water! Not salt water.. over the meat the worms do not like the fresh water and will vacate the meat.. Just keep the water flowing over the meat and run your hand down it and the worms will drop out.. Try this on the next one you see with worms see what you think!👍🏻 It’s a shame to waste a nice filet like that.. God bless! Keep posting those videos!👍🏻 Hope this helps!!

We’ve got a great trout river cutting thru the mountain within a 5 minute walk from the cabin and keep catching 28”-32” Brookies up there. There are also some browns as well as some nice rainbows in that river, but the bears think we are catching the fish for them is the only issue and have to keep our eyes 👀 open.
