I was convinced that we would never get planet overhaul/variety because for a while it felt they switched direction to focus on other things besides exploration. And here we are lol. Really like that they are bringing the colours back, super excited what part 2 will bring us.

@@mrj1897 if they were adding rotating planets pretty sure the speeds , controls of the ships and navigation would be overhauled as well to fit that.

@mrj1897 Good point. In fact, I came up with a strategy as well as NMS acceptable gameplay standards in mind! This includes: - Orbiting planets will be much slower than they are in real life. - Proximity lock and a HUD when nearing a certain distance to a planet. All this adds up to preserve the arcade like gameplay feel while still having some realism, too. ✌️

Is that a bonus of the procedural generation? If you're dealing with created content, you'd have to deal with each item individually. This is maybe saying "render it this way instead..."

they should've reasonably deserved the labor of love reward back at 4.0, maybe even 3.0. there is so much they didn't need to do but did just for the sake of it, while still trying to keep performance and optimization top-notch

@@squiddu 3.0 maybe but not 4.0, waypoint was terrible, absolutely horrible. I lost interest in NMS since then untill now. I spent dozens of hours perfecting my ship stats and waypoint literally just broke all of that

@thehighgroundde1571 Dude those are easy cosmetic & quality of life changes. That's what we've been GETTING for 90% of these free updates. Dude I'm all about those radical changes or what was essential for NMS. Like focusing on Exploration dynamic artistic sci fi stuff. I mean those are fine, but that's not really what the game is about. This is why an update like this is BIG and significant as it follows what the game was originally intended and well.......WHY I bought this game in the FIRST place. Not some social and cosmetic additions. peace ✌

Will be trying out the PS5 version to get the full effect before booting up the PS4 ver which I keep only for VR. Given the rendering issues on the latter BEFORE this update, I'll be happy if the game stops crashing randomly once it's sufficiently patched. Edit: Dang, well the planet where my settlement was is now an abandoned, infested planet and the settlement is gone, although the marker remained. Unsure if the settlement got yeeted because there can't be settlements on abandoned planets or if it was the terrain change that did it, I'm guessing it's the planet type, buildings aren't even buried in the terrain, it's all gone. Water's pretty nice though, looking up at the night sky from below the surface and the waves building up for a storm was pretty cool.

One thing that would be cool if HG could do, is with these updates add new galaxies where they can reset a whole galaxy since no one has ever been on it, that way everything gets overhauled. I think that would be a cool way to add even more content

Please note that Starfield also uses procedural generated tech. But they fail. NMS shows them how it should be done.

I don't want to be the party pooper of the situation, but I was expecting something more radical. When I returned to my main base planet I saw that almost nothing has changed. The exploration doesn't give anything new. I hope the next part of the update brings something more revoultionary to the game.

Don't get me wrong, i am genuinely happy for the dedicated players of nms to finally have the game they were promised. However, updated water physics are not something i would write home about. All the other stuff is impressive though.

The visuals look great, but it only highlights how desperately they really need to up their game in the sound design. It's so bad in so many areas, especially anything water related. They have the visuals, they have the VR, but what they lack now is sound. All the creatures sound the same, most of the guns, Star ships, exo crafts, and general atmosphere all around the same. They could also do with another difficulty spike in Survival too.
