I might be wrong, but that octopus was probably living the last days of its life. It probably just laid eggs and protected the nest without eating anything. Thus, when you caught it, it isn't that lively and the colors on its skin are fading.

You've got to laugh at some of the octopus 'expert' haters commenting here. 🤦♂️ Anyone who has followed Jay on his foraging ventures knows that he's not only very knowledgeable about the many creatures he encounters but also very conscientious. He tries to leave his foraging environment just the way he found it(turning rocks back over when he's done exploring), doesn't keep undersized animals, only keeps what he needs for a good meal, etc. He's also very humble & down-to-earth. By his own admission, he had never foraged an octopus before. There's a learning curve. The appeal of his foraging ventures into the tidepools & beyond is so that we, the audience watching safely from the comfort of our homes or from under a bridge for you trolls, may learn about & marvel at the fascinating creatures he comes across. He pulls them from their hiding spots to show the camera so that we get to see the animal clearly. He'll then often put the animal right back from where he got it, usually no worse for wear. Had he not pulled the octopus out of its hole, we would have just seen the writhing tentacle. That's it! As many have commented, that octopus did not respond like a healthy specimen & may very well have been on its last days or hours. I believe Jay to be a great steward of the environment in which he forages & fishes. People should be a bit less judgmental. Get to know the creator of this video before you spew your hateful comments. He's got plenty of other videos for you to see what I'm talking about.

Hi from New Zealand. You can cook that whole octopus. By tying a string around it's neck after you remove the tooth. You just put it into boiling water. And eat the whole thing. If you like Marmite then you will be in for a treat. because that is what you get in the head. The whole thing is yummy, for an octopus that big you will need to cook it for a couple of hours. Thanks for your wonderful show.
