I worked at Sony Computer Entertainment America's First Party QA department when the PS3 was launched, and lived and breathed this game for months of crunch to reach that launch window. I still have a soft spot for Genji Days of the Blade. I still remember there being a pretty bad gamebreaking bug that got some news after it was launched, that had just happened to be one of the bugs under my purview, that the devs fixed and then subsequently reintroduced right before going gold...

You'd *definitely* enjoy Dawn of the Samurai more. Combat's a tiny bit faster, the camera's almost always in a better position like the God of War games, it runs at a higher framerate... Super-underrated PS2 game. Best $2 I ever spent at GameStop. 😄

I only just beat this game for the first time about...3 weeks ago? It's kinda weird because after devil may cry 4 and 5 (and going back to 3 with higher skill), I was trying to see how far I could take the combos (I did get a few stylish combos here and there). But kinda pissed me off that there was no new game plus for beating the game (apparently the first game had one.) One other thing that's weird is how Yoshitsune and Shizuka's first weapons have directional attacks mid combo...but none of their other weapons all the way through do (but those final weapons give the best of all worlds in terms of moves since a common theme is having different moves and combos here and there but having a particular theme like 1 on 1 focused, mob focused attacks, better aerial combos, actually having a launcher, etc.) There were cool ideas here and there but...it could have been so much better and faster in game play. There's the launchers, the aerial raves, juggles, mid-combo character switching if you are precise enough, the hold R1+button attacks, but...this game needed more time honestly. But hitting arrows back or countering kinda like an issen from onimusha is nice at least (something in the first genji also. In regards to your question about which version is better. The ps2 version I feel has the better overall design as a game, but having first played the ps3 game via rental and then the ps2 prequel later, then ps3 again...I feel in some ways, the combos and weapon variety that belong to all 4 characters give an edge to days of the blade, but purely for the combat aspect. The rest was, ok. Naturally I'm spoiled by devil may cry so I love having my weapon variety to mix up the combos and combat but the adventure was eh.

I remember waiting in line for a PS3 at launch with 2 friends. A 30-something in Business-Casual attire came up to us and tried to act like a casual fan but eventually worked in questions about our thoughts on the PS3 (we suspected he worked for Sony). And when he asked, "So you guys looking forward to Genji?", we all collectively laughed in his face and she slinked away. Quite rude of us in retrospect, but sadly Genji never once piqued my curiosity. Never seemed as flashy or was marketed as aggressively as Dynasty Warriors, Onimusha or even Heavenly Sword. This video is my first time seeing actual gameplay. Looks decent enough, I guess.
