To answer the confusion Sloops can no longer run away on a headwind as you can now go faster than a head wind sloop with sails angled, if that still doesn’t make sense. Sloop running headwind boat following turn sail go faster

I mean I was wondering how that Burning Blade was keeping up with me as I was solo slooping. I still got away from simple juking maneuvers. (anchor dropping U turns and the like) So is this saying the sloop is the slowest, period, now? Angle sails to wind no matter which ship, I get that. Would love to see a speed test with the new changes.

Galleon with a good crew is the CHAD. Brigantine is fast but sinks like a stone. But Sloop is my favorite since I 95% Solo. Dear little tugboat, Toot! Toot! Sloop is the “Little Engine that Could!

The sloop is still my preferred ship for the maneuverability. Sure, galleons and brigantines can be quicker, but they turn like you're driving a bus when at full sail. Getting a crew that works together in order to minimize that lack of maneuverability can be an amazing experience, but it's hard to find. Gamer Tag: Salty Shanty

For clarification, SLOOP IS FASTEST AND CAN OUTRUN A BRIG AND GALLEON WHEN GOING AGAINST WIND. This is good, however the moment you deviate from this strategy because sooner or later you will have to. your GARGANUATLY screwed. Now it's gonna be impossible for a solo sloop to out play a galleon unless the crew on the galleon is swabbies.

The brig was never the best - it might be fast but it's not maneuverable enough to make use of that, and it sinks way too fast The sloop is easily the most versatile, decent durability, excellent handling, and a reaoly convenient layout for both solo and duos Galleon makes up for its lack of steering with sheer firepower, and a 4 man crew can deal with far more problems in general

I really like to play on Galleons because of its immense firepower. Nothing is more satisfying than all 4 cannons being fired at once. My favorite change is that flat sails are not going to be beneficial anymore. This more so emphasizes angling the sails more and making the game more realistic. the brigantine has the highest rate of fire at 60 rounds per minute on average. in 17 minutes, you can fire over a thousand cannon balls on a brigantine no problem.

@@Jimothy-723 Yeah, I see your point. But I was just saying that galleons have the highest firepower potential since it has 4 cannons on each side. Very fun if the whole crew is able to get on cannons and constantly fire away at the opposing ship.

Sea of thieves is a poor choice of game to praise changes for being "more realistic" because a lot of people like to mock it using extremes on account of how intentionally cartoony and game-y it is "oh yeah, so good that the game where you can hold 10 cannonballs but only 5 planks is getting more realistic" and stuff like that but what is really great about this change, and what I think you mean, is that it's more *intuitive* than it was before

I recently tried out the brig( it looks cool and has more cannons so it’s better right? NOPE. That thing can’t maneuver through any sort of obstacle like the sloop can. Sloop is speedy little demon

@@Habershamm The Brig is a great ship for aggressive crews who want to harass, pursue and attack other players. An experienced Brigantine crew is an indeed dangerous thing. But it’s no match for a competent Galleon. And it’ll still struggle against an experienced Sloop Duo. Best ship in the game is the tough little Sloop. If only because it makes Solo play viable.

I really love the sloop because its just way faster in turning and tiny little maneuvers, the brig sinks to fast but is also very fast what makes it fun to play. And you need to walk way to far to bucket on a galleon or risk backsplashing also trying to captain a galleon can get annoying with friends who think like a patatoe. My overal favorite is the sloop.I don't really have a favorite change but at the moment but I do like the fact that the brig is going to be nerfed if you can call it that. (rubcuf)

Truth be told this will not change how most fights are fought, spiraling at slow speeds and then death spiraling will not be effected by this in terms of balancing, if we’re being realistic, this is just to balance travel times and management

Wait what of those things is actually new? Because it feels like this is how they always behaved? The Sloop was always the best against the wind and a galleon was always faster than a brig with the wind. It always made a difference how many sails catched wind and how far they are down. Also even with flat sails not being beneficial its still going to be default when not able to catch wind because it still will be faster than putting the sails against the side wind or is that what they changed? Do you have to agnle them gaianst the wind instead of in the front now? What am i missing here? Also if the sloop is still the fastest against the wind than it should still be able to escape that way. Any ship can be faster than any other shiptype when driving in the right angle to the wind. Everything else would be super unfair.

The speed advantage of the sloop into the wind has been drastically reduced. The sloop will also have to constantly manage its sails to maintain their lead, when they could go full dummy before and gain ground while attempting to board. Plus, as stated in the video, sailing directly into the wind is no longer viable as a brig or galleon will simply tack at slight angles to gain more speed than your sloop and will have angles to fire cannons and boarders while they gain. If you’re a solo slooper, this is all very bad for you

Just off first thoughts seems like sloop about to get unbalanced and weakened. Which sucks for people like me who solo sloop most often. Logically the mechanics make sense, but for game play for solo players idk

Logically it does NOT make sense lol. Sails do not work this way irl. The sloop should be the fastest ship with a tailwind if we’re using logic. It’s the lightest ship with the least amount of drag. A tailwind is not good for larger ships because only the rear most sail would be catching the wind and because of their size, this would be incredibly inefficient. A galleon with 3 sails would want a slight sidewind in order to maximize the surface area of the sails being blown.

I think hating the brig for being overpowered became a meme that people just bought into because it gets shared a lot, but in order to believe the brig is/was overpowered you have to reduce what you consider "power" to just ship speed. A galleon has twice as many cannons, and one for each crew member, and a sloop is unquestionably more maneuverable than a brig. The brig's one advantage was raw speed, so if you want to defend the meme that brigs are overpowered, you have to only consider speed when deciding how powerful a ship in SoT is, which is... silly
