At the beginning, watching you mock up the galley cab my first thought was come on George, you're just stretching posts out now. I was wrong and ashamed I doubted you. By the time you got to illustrating the swing of the armoir, I was enthralled. When you mounted the mock frame, I was captivated by your genius. I'm not a fan of big tall shower boxes in a small van, still am not, but you've made all that otherwise wasted vertical space extremely functional. You should standardize the unit and file for a patent. Seriously, you could sell pre-fab modular kits, or at least license the design to others. Passive income. Options. As usual, your videography skills are top-notch. Loved the overlay exiting & re-entering to get screws. I notice, we notice, the art George, as well as the skill.

It’s incredible! Brilliant design. If it wasn’t obvious that it opened you could also have secret storage for valuables at the back of one of the units that swing out. Left open could the armoire also double as a cab divider? I’ve been looking at vans where they have the cab closed off for security, privacy and insulation but there’s also a door so that you can access the cab from inside the van. One van I saw had the cab divided but the sliding door opened enough to allow for the front passenger seat to swivel.

Once you swing out the pantry and wardrobe from the shower, with a few additions, I think you could use the swing out portions to increase the size of the shower. You could also add a swing down tabletop on a side of the wardrobe which could be accessed from the living area. In a similar fashion, a tabletop on the side of the pantry could be accessed when the pantry is swung out. If you used the swing outs to make a bigger shower, then it would be a decent sized bathroom so you would not need to slide out the toilet or use it in the living space, just swing out the two sides of the big bathroom.

NOOOO! Don't end it there... keep going! I absolutely love your swing-out closet / shower idea. I need something like that. Pull out microwave oven -- OPTIMAL for van life. DO NOT put a microwave down low, you are constantly bending over to look and see when your food is done. And some foods have to be watched when cooking (like oatmeal, cup of soup, etc.) So putting a microwave at a level where you can see the food is really necessary -- if you use a microwave all the time, which I do. (Mine is currently ON THE FLOOR under the seat, and yes, I have to get down on my knees and bend over to cook. Not optimal, but it fits so perfect under my seats, that's where it sits for now.) Isn't that water heater under the bed going to heat the bed up? Could the water heater be insulated so it doesn't give off heat inside?
@HumbleRoad4 жыл бұрын
The water heater is so efficient at holding the heat inside that it does not radiate too much. Although I did send the Vagabonds a custom insulation blanket for theirs. The closed loop glycol reservoir without any insulation is waaaay hot!

Hi George, firstly I’m so impressed by your professionalism, both in workmanship and video production and your willingness to share your ideas. Your swing out shower cupboards blew me away and I rushed out to see how I could adapt them in my bus but soon realised that as the cupboard pivots the depth and width needs to be considered to allow it to come out without hitting against the other side. I note to mentioned it would be narrower and shallower but still not shore how this is achieved without leaving a significant space between cupboards. I thought maybe the smaller narrow cupboard could be a slide out to solve the issue. Anyway hopefully I’m missing something and you can clarify my concerns. Keep up the great work. Grahame
@grahamewebber67604 жыл бұрын
Hey George may have solved my concerns, if the smaller side cupboard I’d semi circular it will not require extra space to spin out then the larger deeper cupboard has ample room to swing out without hitting.

@@HumbleRoad That's exactly what I am going to do George. HOT TIP: Check out radon fans, they are inexpensive, designed to be mounted outside the house (under the van) and are able to run continuously for years! Nice idea with the intercooler for the heating system, George!. May I suggest a bypass in the intercooler for the winter season? just saying 😊... Keep up the good work!

@@dodgeplow So don't wait for your first build silly, even if you use an older van (Which is what I have), no reason to not start working on your dream. :) You can find some really great vans for low prices if you're patient. Paid $1,000 for mine, because the guys wife wanted him to get rid of it. Keep your eyes peeled. And even before you get a van, you can always create layouts. You could end up with an insanely creative build if you have a fair bit of time to work on just that aspect of it. :) Just my thoughts.
