Alfa Laval makes milk processing equipment. The aluminium 3" wrench would be for tightening stainless fittings on milk bulk tanks, and other milk house fittings. Probably there are other uses too.

Alpha Delaval is equipment used for milking cows. This aluminum wrench is used to disassemble the milking lines to sterilize them before milking.

I didn't grow up on a dairy farm, but my uncle raised dairy and best friend milked twice daily. There were hours and hours of my youth spent there getting in the way. I say that because I'm not sure I was helping...lol. I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night if it helps...lol.

those MAC hard handle wrenches are the BOPA series. I’ve been watching ebay trying to buy a set. Seems like that set could be sold for north of $150 on its own. Seems like you had a good haul!

my employer uses aluminum wrenches up to 4" for brassnuts on buffing spindles on machines we sell. they are just for low torque, big nut applications. the aluminum makes it easy to swap buffs and tells operators they don't need to be gorilla torqued (plus much cheaper than forged steel). we have them cast for us. i have one on my wall as well

We use them at the brewery I work at. How light the wrench in just reminds you not to over tighten to the point I never even think about it just snug and go

3:02 those smaller side cutters that say west Germany I believe are olllld Knipex. I have a pair of super old Knipex pliers that say West Germany on them. There is also some older tool companies that made wrenches that I’ve seen with ‘West Germany’ on them, but as far as I know, knipex never made wrenches. Anyways, that’d be my guess. 🤙🏻

Could be Knipex, but it’s near impossible to tell: there’s a whole bunch of manufacturers, most of them from roughly the same area (which was also the center of steel production in Germany) that made tools like that. All good quality, because back then people still concentrated on making their customers happy first, not their shareholders. “West Germany” usually refers to the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1990 - everything after reunification would be marked “Made in Germany”. You can sometimes find “Western Germany”, which might be a hint that the item was made between 1945 and 1949, and a lot of products made in Southern Germany at that time are marked “Made in US Zone” - although that usually refers to printed marks, not stamps or castings, for which you would need to make expensive tooling. So “West Germany” obviously means just that, Made in Germany, which has always been a mark of quality (mostly with good reason), it also means “NOT made in East Germany”, and a missing brand name could also mean “Alright we’re not Knipex, but trust us, it’s just as good”. Although I believe that Knipex also made stuff that is missing their name.

Amazing haul, nearly all of my tools were stolen (over $30,000 worth😢) and I have been going to swap meets, flea markets and pawn shops trying to replace them and I never have luck like this what swap meet did you go to

Yes the alfa lavel wrench is for bevel seat flange nuts in beverage industry dairy, brewing, some pharmaceutical, CIP transfer plates, process piping.

Water pump pliers are called by that name because that’s what they were first made for: hard to reach water pumps in cars. Soon turned out that they’re useful for all kinds of stuff, and nowadays most of them never touch a water pump in their whole life.

Very nice collection, I've been a HD mechanic for most my life and don't have that many wrenches lol. Sad thing is when I retied those expensive tools I bought am lucky to get 20 cents on the dollar if that. What do you do with them all? I ended up giving a lot to a young apprentice starting out.

Those old craftsman duck bill pliers were my go too pair until the teeth eventually wore out on them. I'd have easily paid $10 bucks a piece for them if their teeth and handles were in good shape. Not a lot of choices for good new ones now a days since it's not the most commonly used type of plier. Fortunately, Knipex, Channellock, and Snap-On make excellent ones so I'll be good to go for the rest of my career.

@@thetoolbandit I work on bowling pinsetters that use x pins and x washers all over the place to connect pivoting parts together. They work great for removing and replacing them. Typically, they're used in the aviation industry for safety wire hence why they're not the most common type of plier.

That Alfa Laval wrench is for the massive bearing nuts on their plate and frame heat exchangers. If you have to use that wrench to do it, I feel sorry for you lol we never use it 🤣 #powertools

1:40 It’s pronounced “Haht-set”, which is how you pronounce HZ in German, the initials of the founder, Hermann Zerver. But I’m guessing “Hay-zet” will be the most common pronunciation in English-speaking countries. Hazet are more or less the gold standard for this kind of tool in Germany, mechanics’ stuff, particularly automotive. Fun fact: they were the first to offer a tool cart worldwide, apparently. A brand new Hazet 600 retails for €18 in Germany and people are asking stupid prices for used Hazet stuff on eBay (as they do for many tools these days), but I don’t know how that translates to the US. The $4 price tag tells me they don’t quite have the same reputation over there.
