I go in Analogue October Records quite a lot, bought loads of albums that Craig and his daughter Charlotte have recommended to me. I’m lucky enough to only live five miles away. You’re right about the quality of the pressings Craig only gets the best.

I am interested on your thoughts on those Lost Recordings.
@SonicFlare2 жыл бұрын
eh, it's the music you are getting...... sonically most of these albums are so-so or worse. Keep in mind that these recordings are "lost" because most of them were never intended for release and were recorded by national TV or radio stations for special broadcasts, etc. My guess is it was clever marketing by Devialet, since getting the licenses was likely very inexpensive and no artwork had to be recreated. Sadly, some of them are pressed at questionable plants and out of the 6 I have now, not one of them came with rice paper inner sleeves, which given the label's supposed commitment to high-end is inexcusable. So what do I think of them? Not much LOL. The music is fabulous and that's what I got these for. Incidentally these two Sara Vaughan titles sound quite good, the Blossom not so much.

Ok, so how good are the sonics/pressing quality of the Lost Recordings LPs? Are we talking "Dream with Dean" on 45 good or is it more like Tone Poet good? I ask because I'm thinking of bypassing the Blakey Blue Note Tokyo concert LP (at least for now) in favor of ordering the Blakey Lost Recording in Scheveningen (also I think Golson was a better fit with Blakey's band though it seems I'm in the minority on that one!) I might also bag that Blossom Dearie CD... 😬not sure yet. BTW, Dream with Dean is killer. Had to chuckle a bit when I saw "DK" etched into the runout groove. Nice touch by AP.
@SonicFlare2 жыл бұрын
See post above..... "The Waxed"........ so-so. I'd say on average not even Tone Poet. It could be good, it could be shitty. Try streaming it online before - they really are very much hit or miss, mostly miss!

I bet Porter's butt is disappointed, that it didn't get unboxed. And maybe it's just me, but I did find the background music in the video too loud and a had hard time focusing on what you were saying Danny.

Per the Mark Knopfler box, Miles Showell said The Ragpicker's Dream sounds best, fwiw.

Will have to give them a proper play, my expectations aren't all that high admittedly - every time I read "cut at Abbey Road, half speed this, that the other", my BS meter goes off.

It’s a nice set - pressings are so-so, alas, it’s ok overall. Mastering is nice, though as Miles said, there’s not much to “master” really…
