I LOVE how this is literally a budget build, getting all of the goods from Walmart, Amazon and Lowe’s is awesome! I’ve seen “budget builds” and they’re spending 5k on interior supplies which is NOT realistic and not doable for most people. This video gave my hope, my husband and I are wanting to do a conversion in the next year or two and I’ll definitely be looking at your videos for tips and ideas. You’ve earned a new subscriber! Keep in mind you are watching a 30 minute video of a build. These days just a trailer is easily $6,000 unless you already have one laying around. The reality of these home built campers is they take a lot of time, which is why average people can sink $5k into one. Work and life get in the way. I’ve been working on my project trailer for nine months at this point, and I’m not done. I’m not exactly sure what I’ve paid for everything, but that’s because I’ve been cash flowing it for nine months. You don’t just run out, buy $5,000 in parts, and build it in a weekend (it’s a bad idea, because you make an install, it fails, and Amazon won’t take it back because you’ve had it too long (Chinese Diesel Heater)). The other advice I have is: make a plan for a phase, save $$ for the phase, build the phase, and take it camping. If a phase has unintended consequences or simply doesn’t work, you need to know before the next phase makes starting over impossible. This also makes sure you are never without a usable trailer for more than a weekend. I camped after insulation and walls. I camped after electrical and appliances, and a kitchen. I camped after bunks. I’m gonna have to start over on the kitchen, cause I hate it. These things happen.

one suggestion is peg board on the front wall. great for hanging little things and you arrange and change as needed. also magnet tool bars from Harbor Freight .very strong and we use it for knifes and cooking tools very handy when cooking. last thing I added to my trailer was a clothes rod to hang clothes when getting ready for bed or to hang coats . better and a pile on the floor. I don't use it for full time hanging of clothes but it comes in handy for coats or towels.

it looks better. I would still want to use hammocks. That would free up a lot of space and are easier to pack away each day, leaving a lot of room. In a trailer, several hammocks could be set up and provide very comfortable sleep for all. I would want to insulate at least the ceiling since it gets so hot here in Florida (Orange Park) and would want to add the solar to the roof so that power could be more readily available. Thanks for sharing. Grace is so cute. God bless you, brother.

I like your what you've done, good work. One problem you may not no of, those as seen on TV door screens, do keep out bugs. Larger critters like snakes it want stop. I know this by relatives who used these on their kitchen door. They found a rather dangerous snake curled up on their refrigerator. It came in and left by pushing it's nose through it. The magnets wouldn't stop it. It be terrible to wake up with a rattle snake laying beside you.🙂 Keep up the good work, but I'd find a real screen door for safety! Hope 2022 goes well for you.

I've been daydreaming about doing the same thing with a cargo trailer. I was thinking that I wanted to put supports under the back ramp to level it like a deck. You could set up a tarp over it, and you'd have a nice porch.

I'm combining ideas from everywhere to customize my 6X12 and keep it easily convertible from cargo to camper. One of my best upgrades is those multi packs of D-rings that hold several hundred pounds each. That way I can hang a hammock instead of a cot. And I can secure the kayak, bike, and totes with cargo webbing. That saves a lot of space. I've got everything fold down/fold away so I can get as much cargo as possible and I painted the floor with epoxy paint for easy cleanup. Thanks for tips and the video!

Nice Job.... I am in the process of converting an 8x16 v-nose cargo trailer into an RV and Mobile Sign Shop. I am just starting the walls and cabinets construction. I just sold a 15-passenger shuttle bus that I lived in for 3 years and traveled out west during the winters. I had to sell the shuttle bus because I purchased a large format color printer to make contour cut decals/stickers, koozies, t-shirts, magnetics, banners, mousepads, etc. The large format color printer would have taken up a lot of storage space so I needed to get something bigger. I did a complete conversion series on the shuttle bus from the ground up and now am doing a new series on the cargo trailer conversion. They are on my YT channel.

Get a longer tarp and hook the magnets on the left side of the trailer. Then the rain can't come under the tarp and get stuff wet. Now it would just go under it in my opinion. Great video. I like barn doors
@TheBudgetSportsman2 жыл бұрын
You are correct, the water can come under the tarp, but this can be partially solved by putting the trailer slightly out of level toward the back side. Unfortunately a bigger tarp wouldn’t fit in my storage container.

I just got magnets for back of car tarp so I’m curious to test out your method. What tarp poles do you use?

Im in the process of converting my 7X14X7 and also trying to keep it versatile and capable of multiple tasks. (toy hauler, cargo trailer, camper) My kitchen is on wheels tucks against the wall for travel but will be in the rear opening like a teardrop camper when parked. Can also be removed because my water is much like yours. Using a thick air mattress for now with an additional dinette that will sleep 2 more. Hope to make my own video but for now watch and learning from you all. Only thing I would do different on yours is make a thru wall connection for your solar panels so they can be charging during the day even when your using it.. Do not affix them to the roof like so many people do. They forget when parking the RV or trailer they always look for a shady spot to help keep it cool. Solar panels then get very little sun. Keep them mobile and prop them up out in the sun run the cord into the trailer.

Great video and love what you did with the beds, I am currently trying to sell my 19ft travel trailer and when I do will be picking up a cargo trailer, not sure what size right now but I want something I can use as a camper but also quickly turn back into a cargo trailer, there are so many great ideas out there. I plan in using am Bluetti AC180P for powering the 12V system, it has a 1,500W capacity which will be more than enough plus I have a foldable 200W Solar Panel. Totally agree that a complex electrical system is not necessary. The only thing I am going to do is put a 110V adapter on the outside that passes power through to a regular extension cord, that way when we have shore power I can use a power bar and also charge my Bluetti if needed. I am super excited and cannot wait to get started, just need to sell my current trailer lol

Very minimalist, very close to what I have in mind for when I get a trailer. I hadn't considered using a Jackery as my primary power source, but that would definitely work, so long as I had solar readily available. I had more of a 3/4 bath in the nose in mind for myself, with an on demand hot water heater. A small kitchenette, just enough to put a rocket stove on if I was stuck inside because of the weather. I'm looking at getting one of those pop up screen rooms, and using that as my primary sitting area and food prep. One thing I had considered doing, if I went with a longer trailer, is putting in a wall across the rear, with a door and a window. What I had in mind was putting in a storm door and a window, or even mounting a 12v fan to draw air through and out. I figure no more than one foot inside the trailer, that way there's a small "porch", where I would store my pop up screen room and other things I would need to have ready access to when setting up camp. that way they are out of the way if I stopped for the night in transit between destinations. Don't know if that would be practical, but it's an idea. Anyways, great little camper you have, definitely proves you can be minimalist and still have nice things.

I have considered that for sure...just haven't quite made that a priority yet.

This is looking good so far,I'm only a few minutes is. before I forget for the rear or front for that matter you can go to a junk yard and get scissor jacks for a few bucks from cars and bolt them upside-down in the corners. And look into the bal level trailer level it servs as a level and wheel chocks. It makes leveling the trailer sooooo easy and only like $60 on Amazon. If you get the level first and see what size socket is required you can get the scissor jacks with the same size head and just use a drill.

Awesome. Glad it was helpful. Last week we were using it in NC in 90 degree temperatures and I was wishing I had incorporated Air Conditioning. It’s a lot of weight, space and expense, but something to consider if you’re using it in the middle of summer.

It looks good you thought of a lot of things you've taken a small information we had the same roomie congratulations some things I'd like to mention that's easier things it's up to you to do but it's just merely it suggest the first thing would be a small solar panel that you can put on the roof of your trailer to keep your jackery charged if you set it up right it's removable you don't have to hopefully put any holes in the rooftop hold it on the roof because you say you use it for other things so you may want to take the solar panel off and especially if you're going to sort outside in the winter time people that stuff indoors in the winter .. also it's nice about the solar cell on your roof in a nursing home I live in I have a mini refrigerator that runs on AC or DC power in there models out there that have one side of the refrigerator on the other side of the freezer mine don't ask you settings it has warm or cold so if you're cooler runs on electricity the solar panel not only will keep your jackery charged but it also keep your cooler powered.. Nexus hot water if you to put the a set of black pipe on your roof preferably not painted but you know like PVC black pipe and Phillip keep it filled with water and then as you go down the road the sun will heat it and you'll have hot water not extremely hot but warm almost days but at the middle of summer you know you'll have hot water and if you make it like a letter c and put it across the sides in the front you should have a lot of hot water there are warm water at least.... You could also put some small pipe on your roof rack on your vehicle and if you make it in such a way like using hose clamps to keep it in place it's removable when you're not camping.. as you travel you don't have to keep watering your black pipe cuz you said that you wanted to keep the weight down yeah you're out and went with the pipe but when you're in a stationary position and you fill it up your hot water. Next is a standard propane filter you should be able to run the whole summer with a single regular standard grill propane cylinder but also this could be used for there are small compact lightweight shine wave portable generators that will run on gasoline and on propane .. some of these generators are probably be able to be carried by your daughter the real small the real compact they don't put all our power but it seems like your power needs are very minor... You say that you carry equipment and tools and stuff on job sites which is vehicle in a lot of cases that means dirt or their things being brought into the camper that you want to wash away.. getting one of those five 10 gallon collapsible water containers might help the second part of this would be one of the two manufacturers that come out with a battery powered stick pump it probably has enough volume and pressure to clean your campers four up and get rid of that dirt and dust and maybe some small mud what's also handy about this is if you're in an area where there are springs that have drinkable water you can always take that pump and your collapsible water container to the spring and fill it up with water... And since you have small water container this may be able to supplement your regular water there or maybe even fill if you put the black pipe on the roof of your camper to feel that with water while you're camping.. another thing that you used to propane for if you want to camp and it might get cold out I don't know if they're called Mr Buddy heaters or whatever they're called they're a little propane heaters and it's more than enough to heat the camper I've seen people that camp out of the back of their pickup trucks they use those in there to keep warm in the winter time.. Getting to the black pipe to heat water if you don't want to probably Mount this on your roof you can do this by setting it up on the ground you just design the thing where you can unscrew it and just store aside and then when you want the hot water you screw everything together and you feel hot water and some of the people that I've seen on videos that have made these systems they have valve on it today to use a bicycle hand pump to pressurize this to get water to come out under pressure.. I'm really suggesting these things as your things that I thought of or that I've seen other people's videos I hope they're helpful and I hope you don't feel that disrespected you however you get asked for suggestions and these are things like I said I thought of cuz I've seen him on other people's videos just trying to make your life a little easier.. maybe these ideas that I gave to you Mike's phone other ideas for example cities in black plastic pipe you might want to paint cock tubing that does the same thing you just make a big spiral and paint everything black and then you sit on your roof.. and I hope you get some other good ideas from other fans of yours I've seen a couple of your videos and I like them.. well I'm going to go I'm sorry if I took up too much of your time God bless you keep you safe as well as your family maybe safe on the road as well as at home

Love the upgrades! Most of the best upgrade ideas come through trial and error which may be different from person to person based on family and needs but I love what you've done! Looks like a future mobile hunting cabin! Wink-wink. haha!

This was definitely not built to be a mobile hunting cabin…but now that we have it. I may just have a spring turkey hunt planned where Nate and I will be using the trailer for a multi-day hunt.
