For the record, I have found that kribinsis almost always make excellent parents. I don’t know why, but they seem to have the instinct in them and don’t need to be taught. I have had them raise fry to adults in community tanks while other fish were actively trying to hunt the babies.

We used to have a 740 gallon above ground pond with kois, african chiclets and mollys. We had long pieces cut of 2” pvc pipes and chiclets used to multiple like crazy every 4 months or so we used to give away hundred of them of all sizes to someone that used to sell them. We kept all the fishes well fed and they all got along. One thing I will like to share: I had a stick shift/manual/standard car and the moment I turned 3 houses away and put the car in neutral all the kois in the pond all went crazy expecting me. I believe fishes connect to their owners.

I had a pair of Demasoni Cichlids in a community talk that breed ‘successfully’ three times. I wasn’t trying to breed them, just happened naturally. The first time I noticed fry they stayed hidden inside of a hollow plastic tree stump in the tank. I immediately netted them (I think it was a total of 4) and put them in a separate tank and they all made it. Next two times, I just left the fry in the tank and both times only two survived. The last of that ‘family’ just died last week. They must have had a mutant gene because most of them all died the same way. They all developed what looked like large pimple on their head and passed away about a month after the bump developed. None of my other Cichlids ever got that bump so I assume it was genetic.

Father fish I took some more of your advice today. I got a 70-90 gallon fish tank for $80! Got my light stand and tank with filters! Hundreds of shells and so much more! Word of the wise on saving money!

If your on a budget collect your materials for your ecosphere, let it sit for a bit till the parasites and undesirable stuff die off, than turn it into a green water culture to maximize yields..or if your impatient it's pretty easy to find daphnia, copepod, seed shrimp and rotifer starter cultures online. Either way the end results basically the same. Jmho.

Hello i am from Brazil and i love aquarium, especifically fresh water, i dont know the water condition to hatch, good to know, thanks alot!! once time my angelfishs reproduced and I noticed that: the parents became super aggressive and fed on the eggs when I got close to the aquarium to give them food, I realized that they felt threatened and that's why they ate the eggs, to stay strong and healthy To reproduce again in the future, my solution was to wrap the entire aquarium with newspaper so they wouldn't see me, and it worked, they stopped eating the eggs and about 10 developed and became adults. I hope this help someone with that problem about your cichlids eating theyr eggs or babys. here we call Angelfishs as Acará-Bandeira. cya!
