I'm looking forward to see him in Brazil on the 2020 Floripa tournament - I'll ask him to sign my "fire on board" book :)

Seeing this Bird's opening gives me joy. It reminds me of Oregon's 8 time Champion and FIDE 2316 Master - Richard Wood. He played a lot of Bird's & King's Gambits with much success. Sadly his life was cut off short at 43 in 2004.

Interessant, die Blitzpartie am Digital-Brett zu verfolgen und gleichzeitig die Anspannung und Konzentration der Schachspieler zu erleben. Gutes spannendes Format. Danke!

Enjoyed watch this. Not just the game but body language and expressions of the players. I agree the board was about to explode after shirovs last move. Can’t say I disagree when he resigned when he did.

Although White´s resignation came a bit early, this was a nice game by Shirov! While watching I constantly asked myself "why don´t things turn out that smoothly in my games?!"

Whites handling of the opening was fairly innocuous, didn’t stop black from developing his pieces easily and effectively.

Can anyone please explain? As per my line of thought, isn't white just at a small disadvantage if not losing? After Nxe3, dxe3; Rf1 saves everything, does it not? Did the guy just collapse under time pressure?

Yes, he collapsed under time pressure. Shirov has only a small advantage in the end position. Your thoughts are right.

Yes, the ending needs some clarification. Shirov has an edge after Ne3,. White looked at his clock saw his 11 sec to 2 min disadvantage and decided to give up.

Actually, judging by the hand gestures he made to Shirov, he may have missed that defence altogether. He did point at his rook on a1.

he just missed Rf1 as a defensive resource, yeah.

1, Nxe3-dxe3 2. Rxa2-exf2 3. Kxf2-cxb5 4.Qd2. Black has a minimal advantage only and it's blitz, This Master candidate has no fighting spirit just becz his opponent is shirov that doesn't mean that he's making the perfect move..

Shirov is a tactical beast.... Nevertheless he could play on until the mate.

I can't see a dieect win for black. After 1.Nxe3 Rxa1 2.Qxa1 dxe3 white has Rf1. If 1...dxe3 2.Rxa2 exf2+ 3.Kxf2 with an open game.

It’s a bad position and losing. He probably just wanted to forget it and hurry to play white in the next round
