The car advice is very nice. We don't get many outdoors decorations on christmas over here, but this tip has opened my mind up for a shot such as that one. Though unfortunately car hoods are all buried in snow here most of the time, still nice though. As for editing, I have a tip in return. It's probably hard to implement if you're using a more limited software like Lightroom, but you can do it easily in something like Darktable which has the diffusion module in it. The tip consists of adding diffusion to the blue hue (magentaish blue to cyan blue range) on the christmas strips. It adds a lot of realism to the photo, because the human eye naturally blurs blue more than it does with let's say red (this probably has explanation with the wavelengths and whatnot). On the opposite, blurring anything in the red spectrum will add surrealism to the photo.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and for the tip. I appreciate it. It sounds interesting. Hopefully the snow will melt and you’ll be able to try it out. Merry Christmas 👍🍺

Merry Christmas Joe! I'm kicking myself for not getting out this past weekend but it was bitterly cold here. Supposed to be warmer here next weekend, perhaps I'll be able to get out then.

Another great video, thanks Joe and Merry Christmas to you and yours. I have to disagree with you on one point. I think that if you were greeted by ghosts last year they did a pretty good job of convincing you to be a good guy. You seem like a pretty solid gentleman to me. None of us is perfect to be sure but I'm betting there's more good to you than bad. Merry Christmas my friend. :)

Merry Christmas Joe! Do you use any film simulation? And are those photos edited?

Merry Christmas to you too. I don’t use film simulators. I use my Lightroom Presets and make some minor tweaks.

Great video as usual, Joe. Good tips. I wish you a very happy Christmas and all the best next year. By the way, it seems you have some kind of device to hold your GR and activate the shutter. Can you please explain?
@joeredski3 күн бұрын
Thank you very much my friend. Of course.! I have a disability and I can only use a camera if it’s mounted on support, so I use a selfie stick and a have a wired shutter release attached to the camera. Have a great Christmas dude.

Well done. Do you see a benefit of having auto ISO starting at 800 instead of 100 on the GRiii? Happy Holidays!
@joeredski3 күн бұрын
Thank you. I use auto ISO starting at 800 at night because it ensures my camera prioritizes faster shutter speeds, which are crucial for capturing sharp images in low-light conditions without motion blur. Starting at ISO 100 might lead to slower shutter speeds that aren’t practical for handheld shooting or capturing movement. With a range of 800 to 6400, I can trust my camera to adapt to changing light while maintaining a good balance between image quality and exposure. Merry Christmas to you.
@rolfkarlsson94392 күн бұрын
@@joeredski thanks for the response. Does it prioritize keeping ISO low instead keeping shutter speed at 1/100 minimum? I must give it a try.
@joeredski2 күн бұрын
@@rolfkarlsson9439No. It will keep within the range of 800 - 6400 ISO, but it probably drop the shutter speed below 1/100 seconds if you enter a pretty dark area.

Hi Joe I have a question for you. Some say that street photography is about capturing interesting actions or moments. In your photos many of the subjects are just walking or nothing compelling happening. There’s no emotion, or decisive moment. What do you have to say to those critics?
@joeredski3 күн бұрын
It’s a night shoot. It’s more difficult to capture decisve moments when it’s dark. I tend to shoot from a distance at night and I don’t focus on capturing emotion. It’s more respectful. I try to capture atmosphere at night rather than emotion. If you look at my day stuff, it’s much more about capturing emotion and decisive moments. I talk about and provide examples of capturing emotion quite a lot in my other videos.
@itsmichaelonthemove3 күн бұрын
@ would you agree that capturing “moments” is just one form of street photography, and that there are authentic and good street photography techniques that do not involve decisive moments but rather focus on, say the composition, the scene, and so on? Just asking as a street photographer starting out and trying to find my style.
@joeredski3 күн бұрын
Yes of course. Street photography comes in many different forms: Emotions, walking, empty streets, etc. Starting out by capturing composition is the best way to learn the craft in my opinion. You can capture someone from afar and focus on the leading lines of the street and the structure of the buildings. There are no hard rules.

Thanks for a great video….One question…because you are shooting at F2.8 what is your focus point when framing the reflections on the car hood? Is it the car reflections or the window ?
