I actually met Billy once and for maybe 30 seconds. I was working for Malpaso in Burbank as a PA. I forget exactly why he was visiting. He was probably meeting with Mr. Eastwood for some reason as many people did. I was told by an AD to stand in the VIP lot in back, greet him, and walk him inside. That was it. There was kind of an unwritten rule not to bug actors or directors with fanboy crap and to keep it professional. He was one of the few that almost made me break that rule. But when you get down to it, telling him about how much I loved the Exocrist or Sorcerer would just be annoying. But he seemed like a really cool guy, very friendly.

I also had a brief encounter with Mr. Friedkin while working at a top Santa Fe hotel he was staying at. Sally Kellerman asked me to deliver a note to him. To my surprise, he answered the door personally and was most gracious. I, too, grappled with the dilemma of keeping things professional, and didn't try to corner him through a half open door, but I always regretted never getting another chance.

He was a class act. In every such masterclass or event, I note that he always makes a point of knowing and mentioning the name of his host and remembering and mentioning the names of people in the audience as he's answering their questions. It's a little detail, but it's the sign of someone who understands that those things go a long way in how you make people feel, and like the famous saying goes, people will remember how you made them feel long after they forget everything else about you.

The lady in the black dress in the background is just beautiful, especially when she is watching into the camera. She is like a beautiful sculpture of a goddess with alabaster-skin. :)

The cafe that he shot the 1985 Twilight Zone episode, "Nightcrawlers" is the Halfway House in Santa Clarita/Canyon Country, California...I live near it and the food is terrific. It was also used a year earlier in Twilight Zone: The Movie, Top Gun: Maverick, Space Cowboys, Heartbreak Ridge, and a ton of other films.

At first the audience is silently in awe of the master director until he mentions the name Iron Mike Tyson and then they chuckle and relax because even a deaf and dumb blind guy living under a rock knows about Mike Tyson.

“I could kill myself because I’m so old and you’re all so young” I’m assuming this pretty much sums up how it feels to be old, especially knowing there is so much knowledge from the past slipping by the new age’s radar.

I love Friedkin, although I am one of those purists that he refers to regarding 35mm. There is just something about film. If shot on expensive, high quality equipment of course.
